Poured from a Barley's growler, it's a murky gold golden darkened by a bronze tint. The two finger white head is very creamy, showing solid retention and delivering ample lacing. A barrage of bubbles illustrates the good carbonation, which is never a given out of a growler.

The fragrant aroma is dominated by sweet hops, with some grapefruit, grass and basil--very herbal. The flavor is of subtle citrus and spice, a little fruit, caramel malt, yeast and then the Centennial hops kick in with a bitter vengence.

The mouth is full and complex, starting out light and bright, smoothing into a patch of malt and yeast cut by the first flutter of hops, and then finishes out dry and bitter, all hopped up on the back palate. It's well balanced, and the hoppy finish isn't overkill.

This beer would be highly drinkable for any fan of IPAs, though maybe not so much for detractors of the style. At a temp of about 50 degress F, this a great beer. It makes me glad that Barley's Ale House #2 is practically in my backyard.

Reviewed on-tap at Bodega 6/8/11. Served in a standard pint glass.

Appears a clear amber to color copper with an average white head with some good lacing.

The nose is far too malty for me, and really isn't bitter at all... There are some citrus and floral scents, but most aren't coming through very strong. The bitterness doesn't stand out at all in the tasting, just seem to be overwhelmed by sweetness.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a high level of carbonation. Overall, this is a decent beer, but much better has been taken. Drinking this was interesting, and made one think, but it wasn't good enough to make you stay with more.

On-tap at Ale House # 2.
Hazey caramel color. Off-white head.
Aroma of hops and caramel malt with a fruity twang.

Taste shows pale caramel malt flavors. Solid hop presence. Nicely balanced. Finishes nicely.

Mouthfeel has good body to it.
Good drinkability.

Overall, a solid IPA.

For my 100th review, what could be more appropriate? This beer was a cloudy golden-orange color. There was a nice white foamy head, which disappeared too quickly. There was a great amount of lace on the glass when I was finished. The smell lets you know that this is all about hops, no tricks here. Smells citrusy, with perhaps just a little spice. Taste begins with a fair amount of sweet malt, followed by a rush of herbal hops, some citrusy hops, and almost a pepper-like finish. No doubt this is an IPA, good bitterness, but certainly not overkill, at least not to a hop head. Medium body with appropriate carbonation. Overall, very good, solid IPA. I think this was a good concept for an IPA, I will surely have more. The alcohol presence was not very noticable, I think a couple of these would go down nicely.

Amber color with a generous head this is another great one from Barley's! Floral hops, citrus, and mild malt came bluntly to the nose before it was put in front of me. The taste is fantastic. Clove, oranges and tangy grapefruit start off the drink and slow to a sweet caramel, and gentle malt finish. A great use of hops mixing well with a smooth malt finish. Smooth and oily left a nice finish in the mouth with nay an after bite. The bartender led me in the correct direction with this selection. They had the Weyerbacher (sp?) Hops Infusion as a guest tap and I almost chose it over Barley's selection until the batender offered up a sample. Another good decision.

On tap at the brewery.
Poured slightly murky, golden orange color, short white head that left decent spider web of lace.
Lots of carbonation bubbles keep the head going.
Lots of hop aroma, grapefruit, grassy, herbal.
The flavor is citrus and fruity hops, balanced with some caramel malt.
The mouth feel is full, yet still smooth, finishes dry and bitter.
According to website description, aged with French white oak contributes a hint of vanilla,
but I have to admit I didn't find that, but there was a good level of complexity.
Another drinkable and enjoyable IPA

Growler acquired in trade with OhioDad (thanks!).

Poured a medium and cloudy amber color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of citrus, lightly eathy and sugary. Tastes of juicy oranges, bitter grapefruit, and lightly floral. Has a nice lightly sweet to medium bitter balance. I might have to kill this growler by myself tonight!

A very enjoyable India Pale Ale, the Centennial celebrates an important milestone in Barley's history. This is a good looking gold brew topped by a very good white head that hangs around and creates great lacing effects. It has a very prominent hop nose which one would expect, but surprises on the flavor side with some unusual clove sense in the hops. Much less of a hop flavor stunner than many other IPAs, this beer impresses with its subdued nature and the fact that it tends more toward sweetness than hop bitterness. Very interesting indeed.

This beer was a medium copper amber color with small white head and little lace . It had an aroma of floral hops. It had a flavor of hops, malt and lightly of caramel and citrus. The finish was also slighty caramel/citrus with a slight bitterness. A good beer.
