Featured on tap at Bodega as a part of their tribute week for the Belgian independence day. 10oz pour into a tulip.
This has a deep and rich red color to it. Browns and purples dye the beer down to a dark mahogany color. Not much head and no lacing.
Very sweet, this smells like a really big Dubbel to me. There is a lot of sweet cherry that imparts only a faint tartness that keeps the fruitness smelling fresh. Belgian yeast is there but nicely seated beneath everything else. A little hint of sour dough, plum and a nip of candied citrus.
The nose had me ready for a sweeter beer, and that's what I got. Lots of cherry and juicy plum. Only a faint fruit skin tannic tartness is there, but that's welcomed as it helps cut the sweetness.
The carbonation was light but full, it seem to want to expand in the mouth.
This is a really good Belgian from Barley's. They are new into the game of Belgian styles, but so far they are doing well. The important thing to note is that they know not to let the yeast carry their beers down river.
