Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass

Appearance – Served a deep brown color with a light off white head. The head faded to give a light amount of lacing.
Smell- The smell was on the lighter side with notes of roasted coffee and a ever so light amount of cocoa.

Taste – Bitter tastes of coffee and roasted malt meet the tongue initially. There is some bitter chocolate that works its way in more toward the middle. Overall this is quite a bitter stout.

Mouthfeel – The brew has a moderate to slightly above moderate body with a lower level of carbonation. A good fit for the bitter taste and the style of the beer.

Overall – It was a alright stout. Not the biggest flavor profile and the bitterness of it actually made it a little hard for me to drink; it definitely slowed me down. If lyou ooking for a dry bitter stout this is it; but not really for me.

Had this on Nitro at "The Library" south side.

A - A very impressive pour which always leads to a pillow like effect of fallen snow and a full inch of mocha colored head. Beer is an impressive solid black.

S - Not really much to the nose, maybe some chocolate and coffee. I couldn't even detect the hops.

T - What a sneaky bit of hops! The flavors are a soft chocolate and a mild coffee with some bitter pine hops in the finish. In a way it's exactly like "Guinness Extra Stout" same ABV too.

M - Medium and creamy. Hops were not overbearing.

Overall this is one of the very few hoppy English stouts I had and it left a good impression. Great beer overall.

On cask at Mr. Goodbar's part of the 2010 cask fetival. Pours an opaque brown with no head, and gives off a chocolate aroma. The taste is initially hoppy, and then the malt kicks in. Some roast, and it has an above average mouthfeel. Good drinkability.Leaves good lacing.

Sly Fox Oatmeal stout has a body that is black and completely opaque except for its edges. About a finger of brown head is thick and leaves a few scraps of lacing behind.

The aroma has roasted malts and coffee packed in there pretty well.

Sly Fox Oatmeal stout is pretty sweet, with a good amount of coffee and roasted malts coming through. Quite a bit of dark fruits also.

The star of this beer is the mouthfeel; I always enjoy the full, creamy feel of an Oatmeal stout, but this one is excellent even for the style. Thick with just a little bit of slickness and just enough carbonation. I almost had trouble paying attention to flavor because I was thinking how this felt.

Sly Fox Oatmeal Stout is a solid beer with a fantastic mouthfeel; probably something I would order again.

An amazingly smooth, dry oatmeal stout. A reasonable head with moderate retention and a thin lacing. It was a little lighter than expected; more of the color of a brown ale-light porter.

Chocked full of coffee, chocolate, roasted malt notes with a bit of residual sweetness and plenty of oatsy/grainy depth and smoothness.

Extremely soft and drinkable.

A very high quality offering from Slyfox and one of the better oatmeal stouts I've had.

Pretty darn good oatmeal stout from the locals at Sly Fox. Deep, rich brown pour leaving light lacing. Light mouthfeel, especially for a stout, which is usually a heavy mouthfeel. The nose is of mild chocolates...I'd recommend to all stout lovers this quaff...let them taste the goodness.

Poured into a plastic sampler cup at a Sly Fox tasting at Bierkraft in Brooklyn.

A--Dark brownish with too much red in it, even without passing light through it. Looks too much like an Irish Red. Head is decent tannish foam, though.

S--Sweet and dark fruity: I get some raisin along with toffee notes. Not enough roastiness or bitterness for the style, I feel.

T--Similar issues as the nose, unsurprisingly. I do like the surprises of boozy raisins and the almost syrupy slick butter toffee flavors, but where's the bitterness? I'm looking for coffee and cocoa and I'm getting rum-soaked raisin bread with a side of caramel candy. A little too sweet given how thick it is--toes the line of a sweet stout.

M&D--Mouthfeel is the strongest part of this brew, and the best of the ten I tried. Absolutely dead on slick oily smoothness. The oats' presence is undeniable--a real standout in a department American versions of the style seem to botch usually. Drinkability's decent, though without the bitter to cut the sweet, I don't know that I could drink more than a pint of this.

From notes, on tap at Barcade in Brooklyn. Nearly black with some ruby highlights, clear. Thin tan head fades to flim and ring. Very spotty lacing. SMELLS roasty, chocolate. Not strong, but pleasant. TASTES of roasted grains in the lead, sweet malty pushing back, bitgter chocolate, bit of hope bitterness balancing. Smooth and balanced, fairly complex. FEELING of medium carbonation, fiz lingers, a bit creamy, smooth. Lean finish, medium body. OVERALL a sessiionable stout. Not too big big, but plenty of flavor.

A: Poured very dark brown, near black with about 1 finger fluffy cream-colored head which disapated quickly but had good lacing.

S: Smoke, chocolate, coffee.

T: Smoke, sweet chocolate, bitter coffee, and a little bit of pine/citrus.

M: Smooth, full, and creamy with a lingering bitterness that reminds you to take another drink.

D: This is a great quaffable beer that I could drink pint after pint of. This would get 5's for mouthfeel and drinkablity if from the firkin which I unfortunately missed last week.

I don't know why this is under retired.

Nearly black with ruby highlights, this beer arrived at the table with not much head (but I think this had more to do with the pour than anything else). The foam that was present left behind a smattering of lace. Rich, malty aroma composed of caramel, burnt malt, a light roastiness and a hint of smoke. Low to moderate bitterness with rich malt character - again with the caramel, roast, and burnt flavours. Full bodied, oily and slick, with lowish carbonation. A top notch oatmeal stout. Not often do you really get that oily character from the oats.

Appearance: Arrives at the bar with a coffee brown color that is translucent enough to permit garnet highlights when held up to the light; the head was modest and there was some lacing

Smell: Roasted grain aroma with a hint of oats

Taste: Coffee and dark bread flavors up front that are joined by a roasty bitterness, mid-palate; not much discernable lactose flavors here at all

Mouthfeel: Medium body with a slightly prickly carbonation; rather smooth, as one would expect, from the oatmeal

Drinkability: A nice sweet stout, that has good coffee flavors and a smooth body

Appears black with a nice, creamy sticky brown nitro head. Lots of sticky lacing scattered around the glass.
Smell is of roasted malts, along with a fruity, raisiny and currant aroma that is making this jump out of the glass.
Taste is of the same aromas with a bit of chocolate and nutty oat that blends nicely.
Mouthfeel is smooth, semi-sweet, and roasty with a creamy slickness along the palate.
Well done brew.

Sly Fox assistant brewer Tim Ohst's first beer for the Fox is a real winner - dark, roasty, dark chocolatey, strong black coffee type of stout that goes down very easily. Body is opaquely black, and a nose with the above notes in it that the taste bears out. Delicious, esp when warmed to close to room temperature. It's a shame it's not on at the brewpub at the moment as it is a very good beer. Highly Recommended.
