Poured into a weizen glass a hazed peachy-like color a large frothy white head atop leaving a trace amount of lace behind, big bold aromas for the style in my mind clovey and smokey with a real lemony burst quite nice and again in your face.Full flavors like the nose toasty and wheaty with big clove notes and phenolic smoke the lemon stays underlying in form but its presence is always there.A very solid full flavored weizen I had this in the past at the Phoenixville location, quite nice.

I was very excited to try this new canned hefe from Sly Fox I love all of their other canned offerings so I was amped when I heard such a drinkable summer beer would be available. Appears a heavily clouded deep golden orange forms a large white head with effervescent carbonation leaves behinid chunky sporadic lacing around my glass. Aromatics contain citrus, banana, clove and a touch of vanilla great yeast esters going on along with some caked yeast doughy tones, of course sharp wheat with mild herbal hops in the finish. Flavors a sharp flow of acidic wheat and citrus notes, mellow banana/clove combo nice yeast accents combines to make an authentic Bavarian hefeweizen. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied even but fine carbonation bubbly feel is really nice and refreshing. Drinkability an all out summer beer I can't wait to get some for a BBQ or concert this coming summer, good stuff.

I love Sly Fox and their canned beer. Good canned craft beer needs to be more readily available. Thankfully, around here, I can try all the Sly Fox stuff.

Appearance: Dirty, hazy, mucky yellow, which I love in a Hefe. Good and frothy and creamy-looking head with decent retention and lacing droplets.

Smell: What I'd hoped for, all the good soft wheat malt sweetness, a bit of clove and banana, mild bubblegum, and some lemon citrus hop bite.

Taste: Solid soft wheat on the palate, with the banana and clove and vanilla coming full swing. But what I love is the hoppiness to balance everything out, for one, and also curb the possible sweetness from the wheat that can sometimes be off-balance with domestics. The finish could be longer and more nuanced, but this is very solid.

Mouthfeel: Lighter to medium-bodied, though more with the latter, and fairly creamy, with a nice surge of raucous carbonation at the end.

Drinkability: For a domestic and canned craft Hefe, this is the real deal in my opinion, and the hoppy nature of the finish adds an interesting domestic facet to everything. I'll be drinking a lot of this in NY; I know that for sure.

on tap at Fat Heads, 20oz pour served in a big Hefe glass

A - very cloudy, almost orange color with a quarter inch of tight frothy foam which sticks around for most of the drink. very minimal lacing.

S - heavy on the clove, with some banana thrown in. a bit fruity with some green, almost sour apple as well. lightly spiced.

T - bready and yeasty, cloves comes through much more than the banana...fruity with some green apples and citrus rinds. doughy malt, gets more fruity and sour as it warms.

M - medium bodied with some tight carbonation, could use a bit more to propel the flavors. somewhat creamy, finishes with lingering fruity sweetness.

D - decent at best, misses the mark a bit by straying from classic and simple Hefe flavors. grew bored with it halfway through the glass.

Got this from WoodyChandler, review from notes

Pours an effervescent & hazed honey color with 2 fingers of beige head. Minimal head retention 7 lacing

S: Apple & pear blossoms, plus bubble gum

T: Green bananas, bready notes yeast bite & peppery spiceyness up front. Green apple peels, dryness, a bit of pear, faint lemon, cloves & juicy fruit once warm. Finishes a touch dry with more juicy-fruit & a bit of lemony hops

MF: Medium bodied, low carbonation & nicely balanced

Drinks really easy, a nice hefe that quenches the thirst

12 oz can into a Weizen glass.

Pours a cloudy orange gold with a few fingers of foamy off-white head. Fizzles down pretty quickly into a thin, sturdy retention that leaves some good spotty lacing behind. The aroma is a mix of bread & wheat, some earthy hops, lemon grass, a bit of clove, and yeast.

The taste matches the aroma with some bready sweetness and wheat notes, yeast, spicy clove, a splash of lemon zest, and finally, a nice dry hop bitterness in the backend. The mouthfeel is light-medium bodied with a crisp yet easy carbonation that goes down very well.

A nice American take on the German style Hefe, this is perfect to quaff on a hot summer day. Coming in a can for easy mobility is also a plus!

12 oz can from my third beer-of-the-every-other-month club. Poured into an Idle Hands tulip glass.

A -- Deep golden color. White head, not as much as I would think on a weiss. poor retention and lacing.

N -- Bananas and cloves, generalized fruitiness and malts.

T -- Very good taste. Really liked this on the tongue. Sweet aftertaste.

M -- no complaints

O -- I greatly enjoyed this. Really good warm weather offering. I don't think I can buy any of Sly Fox's stuff around here though... oh well.

Cheers!

I must say that this is my first "craft brew in a can." I was very impressed and I look forward to tasting more of this good beer in a can stuff....

A- Bright cloudy orange color with a HUGE hilly head.

S- Smell was of spices and wheat with a suttle fruit hint to it, possibly a juicy apple.

T- Peppery spices (cloves?), wheat, lemon zest, hoppy fruit finish.

M- Light bodied but exactly what I am looking for in a hefe. Thirst quenching and desirable.

D- I could easily drink this one all night long. Bring on the summer!

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a cloudy golden color with a 1 inch head. Smell is good, there is bananas, some clove. Taste is the same, banana and clove, a touch of wheat, easy drinking. Feels full bodied in the mouth and overall is a good quality beer.

on tap at phoenixville.
Barvarian wheat beer with hersbrucker hops.

A: Poured a beautiful golden-orange that was cloudy by nature and was topped off by a bright white fluffy head that held up nicely leaving a moderate trail lacing.

S: The nose yielded a strong sense of wheat, bananas, cloves and some light bubblegum hints all combining for a very nice aromatic experience.

T: sweet and spicy with lemony wheat, bananas, pineapples, and zesty dry oranges. There was some spicy citrus notes along with a light breadiness and good yeasty attributes.

M: light, creamy leaving a nice slick coating on the tongue of wheat and citrus all brought on by a crisp carbonation.

D: Overall a very nice spicy and sweet drinking weiss that you don't want to put down, very refreshing wit a nice lemony tang. Could drink this all night.

in can 8-16-10.

A: A cloudy nectarine orange pour produces a foamy and patchy headwork. Some sloppy patches are left for a lacing. Nice coloring but not much else to go on.

S: Bananas and wheat are dominant on the nose with a zesty orange zing with a light to medium delivery and a bit of fruitiness (whole oranges and nectarines).

T: A nice mixture of semi-dry oranges and wheat for the flavor. A zesty zing of hoppiness intertwines but still allows the fine german pilsner malts to be highlighted. Some signs of carbonation but not much but enough to deliver some crispness to be recognized.

M: Medium bodied with some bubbliness and creamy wheat feel on the tongue.

D: Good drinkability. Another warm weather quencher that goes down with little hindrance. Fairly crisp on the swallow, six-pack worthy and relaxing to kick back with.

A hefeweizen in a 12 oz can. I'm curious to say the least. Purchased at Al's of Hampden.

A: The ale is a hazy, a golden color that you just can't see through. A finger and a half of white head threatened to overflow my glass before receding. Light lacing resulted.

S: The nose has wheat tartness but little in the way of hefe. On close inspection, there is a touch of clove but none of the bubblegum or banana that I'd crave.

T: The weizenbier has a solid flavor that emphasizes the wheat. Light tartness starts things off before citrus makes an appearance. The citrus is orange and lemon, sweet with a zip. The wheat is paired with a bready pale barley malt that changes the mood of each sip. Clove is plentiful, but beyond that there is little else in the way of a weizen. That being said, the wheat presence is very enjoyable.

M: The mouthfeel is decent, driven by the wheat's tartness. Clove is prominent as well.

D: A low alcohol ale, I'd be happy with a six pack. In fact, this could be perfect for next week's Homecoming tailgate at PSU. Hmmm....

From a SLY FOX variety case.Drank from a Erdinger glass.

Typical Hefe appearence.Cloudy yellow with a small white head that fell pretty fast.Leaves no lacing.

The beer smells very fresh, notes of clove, citrus, cant smell the bubble gum.I also smell yeast.

The taste is spicy(peppery),yeasty, its sweet upfront and then leads to a spicy finish.

Mouthful is alright, carbonated, spicy and easy going down.

Not a bad hefe for the price but I dont think it can contend with the big guys from germany.I would buy it again though.

Murky orange/yellow in color, bright white 2 finger head, nice lacing and decent retention.

Aroma is crisp citrus, light hops, and some banana bread.

Taste is tangy, crisp citrus, light banana notes, some bready, yeasty, notes and a bit of finishing hop bite.

Crisp, light feel, a tad over carbonated.

Solid drinkability, and overall a damn decent hefe!

Poured a darker color than I'm used to for a Hefe, deep golden orange with a head that was gone quickly. No lacing. Smell was good with good dose of bananas and clove. Taste was very banana like with a sliver of sourness. THe feel was a little thicker than most hefe's I've had. Decent carbonation and overall a nice beer but not my favorite hefe in the world. Worth trying especially on a nice warm summer day.

Poured from the can into a wheat ale glass.

A real nice orange pale amber, opaque with some cola sticking bubbles but a real nice mix of pinhead rising carbonation also. THe head billows large and in control at four fingers, with lots of pin head sized even dancing bubbles, with a nice creamy white appearance and huge retention. Great looking Hefe.

Nose has good citrus lemon, airy dry yeast and a good wheat malt density to it. Light it seems but with some heavy qualities, curious to see where this goes.

Palate fills with a nearly rich but clean feel. Moderately carbonated with a hint of sweet cream but a large lemon and citrus body washes over with a chewy feeling. No banana or cloying sweetness. Malt density is there but has a light feel. Sweet tangerine whaffs over on the swallow with multiple sips from fruity esters.

Overall this is a great hefe, and I like the fact it doesn't have much banana like esters to it and it's so easy drinking and refreshing. Very impressed.
