Serving Type - Can

Appearance - Amber orange/tan with a 1 inch foamy head, lots of sticky lacing.

Smell - Pale malts, orange, grapefruit, caramel malts, spices, some minor sugars, toffee. A funky/grassy note at the finish.

Taste - From first sip, lots of caramel malts with a bitter pale malt flavor. Some hops come out near the finish and add some grapefruit and orange, along with some lemon. Some sugars and spices add even more sweetness. Drinks more like a amber ale.

Mouthfeel - Tongue gets mostly malts with some mild hop notes. Palate gets remaining malts, along with some sugars and bitter hops. Aftertaste is malty, a little bitter and dry.

Overall - Its ok, nothing special and a little too sweet to be a pale ale. Loads of caramel malts make up the main flavors. Its ok to drink but not something id have to have again.

12 oz can. best before 04/14/2014.

A: pours pretty clear. slightly copper body. head is pretty white. limited lacing, but existent. lacing is sparse, but again, present.

S: mild caramel nose. I take that back. a lot of caramel in the nose. the whole nose is malt. getting virtually nothing from the hop department.

T: sweet and caramel. similar to the nose, im not getting any hop flavor, just a whole lot of grain. there is a slight metallic-ness to it as well. bitter and dry finish.

M: mild carb on a medium body.

D: not a bad brew, but I wouldn't call this an APA. more like an amber ale. I need more hop presence to call this an APA as well as a beer I would want to drink more of.

Poured from the can into a nonic pint glass.

A real nice looker of a pale ale. Glowing light red and traffic signal orange body, very clear with a fluffy off white head three fingers tall. Settles to mild clumping and a nice sudsy soapy collar, while slow rising carbonation creeps up the middle nicely. The body color is very much reminiscent of the phoneix can color scheme, real nice.

Nose is a little grainy, with some light toasted malts. A nice woody pine hop sense briefly and mild sweetness and some soft hinting caramel. Not too bad.

Palate is very solid and enjoyable. A good pine and herbal bent on the finish, with some grass like tones it seems. Mild malt sweetness but the hops seem to be more forward. Could use a little bit of malt sweetness for balance, but the mouthfeel coats just enough without being too wet to let the flavors all be felt. Good bitter aftertaste that really lasts

Overall, pretty solid, and a nice hoppy pale.

A 355ml can with a BB of Sept 2013. Picked up a recently from Trembling Madness in York.

Poured into a tulip pint glass. An orange-amber hue with faint haze and light carbonation. Yields a smallish head of white foam that lasts for a minute or two before dissipating. Aroma of caramel malt with hints of pine, grass, stewed hops and earthy yeast. Slightly sweet, with a metallic note and a touch of harsh cardboard in the background.

Tastes of aromatic hops with a caramel malt backbone and a bitter finish. Notes of pine, stewed hops, mild grass, caramel, earthy yeast and cardboard. Highly attenuated and rather harsh, followed by a strident bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is tingly and very dry, with decent carbonation and body. Pretty astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of of bitter aromatic pine, acrid stewed leaves and cardboard.

So-so. Has the potential to be a solid American pale ale but the execution needs improvement. Lacklustre looks, with a head that disappears too quickly. The aroma and flavour are OK but the hop character is indistinct and there are some unpleasant off-notes spoiling the experience. Body is alright but mouthfeel overly dry. Basically - could try harder. No need to hunt this one down.

12 oz can, stamped 6/18/13, should be a best buy date.

appears a clear bright amber copper color once poured into pint glass. 1/4" off-white head. aroma is cereal grains, minimal earthy hops. taste is a good balance of slightly sweet malt and very mild herbal hop flavor. medium body, higher carbonation. appropriate for style. even for a pale ale, it could have more hops for American Pale Ale

A - Pours a fairly clear amber brown with a full inch of frothy white head.

S - Smells of grains, mild piney hops, and some sweeter malts. Nothing too exciting.

T - Quite balanced yet its just a standard pale ale with corn flakes like grains, pale malts, and a slightly hoppy finish nothing close to an IPA territory. Hopefully the pilsner will be better.

M - Light to medium easy to drink.

Overall it was cool to tick this but kind of yeasty for a pale ale.
