Pours a clean orange-ish to amber color with an off white head. In the aroma, a small sweet malt. In the taste, a small sweet roast, a mix of gingerbread and tea. A smooth and medium bodied mouthfeel, with a small dry malt in the aftertaste. Nothing exciting, but decent, nonetheless.

On cask at Zeno's, State College, PA

A-Deep reddish brown with a thin and quickly fading head.

S-Faint sweet malt and not much else.

T-Sweet earthy malt. Little to no hop bite. This is WAY to sweet malty for me.

M-Good body from all that malt! A round brew...this is the best featur of this beer.

D-Not bad...but one will do me just fine. Way to malty for me. I am not an Irish Red fan at all...give me some hops please!

On tap at Sly Fox - Royersford

By all accounts you think you're in for a more or less standard Irish Red but, if you have had enough Sly Fox, as I have, you'll be a little thrown off by the degree of bitter, grapefruit-lemon hoppiness. Its by no means overbearing - an Irish Red is in fact underneath - a smooth, clean medium malt body with, somehow, a touch of roast coming through. Weak though.

For some reason I wasn't anticipating that characteristic Sly Fox hop character that is pushed a bit much in their Pils and more or less appropriate in their Pale and IPA (those 3 are all too similar - citrus-hoppy and soft drinky malt-sweet, but that's another story...)

Its light red-amber color works fine, head/lace - attractive, if a bit too whipped-frothy. A sniff reveals those pink grapefruit notes, a real subdued malt presence, and some bubblegum? Yeah, in the finish of the flavor as well. Overall, the taste is dainty, likely made daintier by the off-balance of malt in favor of too citrus-floral hop.

Put it back easy enough, but very much off. Lackluster.

On tap at the brewpub.

Pours a clear dark orange, light red, medium sized white head forms, drops a decent lace sheet on its way down, solid ring of lace sticks around, good retention. Smell is quite sweet, some caramel, bread, orange peel, citrus, a bit earthy, some biscuit, a bit of vanilla sweetness, kind of underwhelming. Taste is similar, sweet and sugary at first, caramel, bubblegum, toast, honey, slightly grassy, very light roasty character, not bad but a little sweet. Mouthfeel is light bodied with low to medium carbonation. An alright Irish red, just not enough going on to prop the sweetness up.

tap at special tasting

Pours amber reddish color, yellowish head retains pretty well.

Smells of bready, slightly bitter malts.

Taste of some dryer hops and bready, grassy malts.

Medium body with a tingle of carbonation.

Pretty decent, but not fantastic. Then again, I'm not a huge fan of the style. I would drink this again, but I wouldn't go out of my way too.

Growler from Bierkraft. Pours clear red color with a 1/2 inch creamy tan head that sticks around for a while; smells of grain and roasted malt, maybe some bread; the nose is very faint with nothing really jumping out to greet you.

Tastes of malt, roasted grains, light caramel, faint hops, some sweetness and a hint of citrus; pretty malty overall, with earthy tones, bread, and a very dry crisp finish that leaves a slight pucker and resin of either orange peel or pepper. The taste is one dimensional in that the malts dominate, but there is some good flavor mixed in this brew. The carbonation is light, with a dry creamy mouthfeel and a medium body. The aftertaste is a combo of roasted malt and grains, and while that is not ideal, it does not take away from the good flavor when this beer was going down.

A decent beer that is very drinkable, and it tastes like the Irish Red beer definition, but the flavor just doesn't excite me. I'd drink this beer again, but would not seek it out.

Sly Fox- Seamus Irish Red Ale

Appearance- Golden reddish brown with a finger thick head and moderate lacing.
Smell- musky malt.
Taste- Mossy/ earthy malt. Light flavor.
Mouthfeel- Light and slighty watery. The backbone of flavor is a little weak. The slightest of dryness in the end.

Overall- A decent beer to start off the evening. Could even be something you drink all night.

Pours a clear copper red color, thick pillow of soapy khaki head, decent retention and lacing. Scent is sweet malts, roasted grain and damp earthy hops. Taste brings charachters of scent together... the sweetness is lighter than others in style, while roastyness and hoppiness is higher... nothing overly aggressive though. Overall, quite earthy and a nice spicy rye-like kick. Medium bodied, could use a tick more carbonation, no lingering flavors. A decent irish red that strays slightly from the style but is still a nice beer.

on-tap at Hunger-n-Thirst, Lancaster, PA

A- looks the part. amber with heavy red hues, and a nice light khaki head. could use more lacing.

S- some bready malts, maybe some caramel, a earthy, slightly citric hop is there.

T- taste is pretty nice, and a standard, straightforward Irish Red. A quick smack of caramel, some dry breadyness, with a very light citric/eathy hop.

M- Medium, a touch dry on the finish, but I get the slightly metallic note I get on a lot of Sly Fox brews.

0- A nice St. Patty's Day beer, and a step up from something like Smithwick's.

Flowing at Smokin Joe's in the Southside of Pittsburgh alongside an incredible mix of brews some of which included: Southern Tier Unearthly IPA, Great Lakes Blackout Stout, Legacy Hoptimus Prime, Boulder Mojo Risin DIPA, Victory Golden Monkey, Troeg's Nugget Nectar, Unibroue Maudite, Bluepoint Hoptical Illusion, Stone IPA, Dogfish Head 90 min and Red & White. Somehow I started with a Sly Fox Seamus Red Ale appears a copper red tone with light tan cream colored head afloat leaves behind thin lacing looks good. Aroma has light bready notes with herbal hop qualities a bit subdued but pleasant. Flavor contains nice semi sweet toasted nut with roasted malt breadiness going on with a creamy edge at that subtle herbal hops balance out the sweetness definitely a nice mix. Mouthfeel has a light medium body even carbonation good feel to it great quaffing brew nothing offensive here. Drinkability definitely the type of beer I could session with throughout the course of some St Paddy's festivities.

Seamus Irish Red ale pours a reddish orange, decent soapy head and nice color and clarity. Aroma is malty, alittle fruity. In the flavor, caramel and light roasted malts, uplifting and refreshing. Malty flavor, a touch of brown sugar and alittle roast. Easy drinking and pretty good overall. A nice beer to have on hand.

Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass

Appearance – Served a medium red colored body with a white head. The head fades fast leaving only a slight amount of lacing.

Smell – The nose is rather light. There is however a bit of sweet caramel and a little roasted malt breadiness in the nose.

Taste – The taste is quite sweet of caramel up front. As the taste advances some more bready maltiness works its way into the taste and subdues a bit of the sweetness. There is a little bit of citrus flavor that then works it way into the taste, with the taste then ending with a very light roasty flavor, not much, but it mixes well with the sweet breadiness and light citrus.

Mouthfeel – A little on the lighter side, yet very fitting for the sweetness and flavor of the brew. This coupled with a moderate level of carbonation make it very easy to drink.

Overall – Easy drinking with a nice sweeter flavor. A session brew to enjoy at the pub with some good friends.

Pours a reddish copper with slightly yellowish white head. The nose has a strong malt presence initially, light notes of smoke with some oily piney hops behind. The flavor is caramel and crystal malts with notes of smoked meats. Hop presence in back, oily and piney hops with a lighter body, soft palate, aggressive and lively carbonation.
