on-tap at Hunger-n-Thirst, Lancaster, PA

A- looks the part. amber with heavy red hues, and a nice light khaki head. could use more lacing.

S- some bready malts, maybe some caramel, a earthy, slightly citric hop is there.

T- taste is pretty nice, and a standard, straightforward Irish Red. A quick smack of caramel, some dry breadyness, with a very light citric/eathy hop.

M- Medium, a touch dry on the finish, but I get the slightly metallic note I get on a lot of Sly Fox brews.

0- A nice St. Patty's Day beer, and a step up from something like Smithwick's.

tap at special tasting

Pours amber reddish color, yellowish head retains pretty well.

Smells of bready, slightly bitter malts.

Taste of some dryer hops and bready, grassy malts.

Medium body with a tingle of carbonation.

Pretty decent, but not fantastic. Then again, I'm not a huge fan of the style. I would drink this again, but I wouldn't go out of my way too.

Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass

Appearance – Served a medium red colored body with a white head. The head fades fast leaving only a slight amount of lacing.

Smell – The nose is rather light. There is however a bit of sweet caramel and a little roasted malt breadiness in the nose.

Taste – The taste is quite sweet of caramel up front. As the taste advances some more bready maltiness works its way into the taste and subdues a bit of the sweetness. There is a little bit of citrus flavor that then works it way into the taste, with the taste then ending with a very light roasty flavor, not much, but it mixes well with the sweet breadiness and light citrus.

Mouthfeel – A little on the lighter side, yet very fitting for the sweetness and flavor of the brew. This coupled with a moderate level of carbonation make it very easy to drink.

Overall – Easy drinking with a nice sweeter flavor. A session brew to enjoy at the pub with some good friends.

Pours a clean orange-ish to amber color with an off white head. In the aroma, a small sweet malt. In the taste, a small sweet roast, a mix of gingerbread and tea. A smooth and medium bodied mouthfeel, with a small dry malt in the aftertaste. Nothing exciting, but decent, nonetheless.

Pours a reddish copper with slightly yellowish white head. The nose has a strong malt presence initially, light notes of smoke with some oily piney hops behind. The flavor is caramel and crystal malts with notes of smoked meats. Hop presence in back, oily and piney hops with a lighter body, soft palate, aggressive and lively carbonation.

Pours a clear copper red color, thick pillow of soapy khaki head, decent retention and lacing. Scent is sweet malts, roasted grain and damp earthy hops. Taste brings charachters of scent together... the sweetness is lighter than others in style, while roastyness and hoppiness is higher... nothing overly aggressive though. Overall, quite earthy and a nice spicy rye-like kick. Medium bodied, could use a tick more carbonation, no lingering flavors. A decent irish red that strays slightly from the style but is still a nice beer.

On tap at Sly Fox - Royersford

By all accounts you think you're in for a more or less standard Irish Red but, if you have had enough Sly Fox, as I have, you'll be a little thrown off by the degree of bitter, grapefruit-lemon hoppiness. Its by no means overbearing - an Irish Red is in fact underneath - a smooth, clean medium malt body with, somehow, a touch of roast coming through. Weak though.

For some reason I wasn't anticipating that characteristic Sly Fox hop character that is pushed a bit much in their Pils and more or less appropriate in their Pale and IPA (those 3 are all too similar - citrus-hoppy and soft drinky malt-sweet, but that's another story...)

Its light red-amber color works fine, head/lace - attractive, if a bit too whipped-frothy. A sniff reveals those pink grapefruit notes, a real subdued malt presence, and some bubblegum? Yeah, in the finish of the flavor as well. Overall, the taste is dainty, likely made daintier by the off-balance of malt in favor of too citrus-floral hop.

Put it back easy enough, but very much off. Lackluster.

Seamus Irish Red ale pours a reddish orange, decent soapy head and nice color and clarity. Aroma is malty, alittle fruity. In the flavor, caramel and light roasted malts, uplifting and refreshing. Malty flavor, a touch of brown sugar and alittle roast. Easy drinking and pretty good overall. A nice beer to have on hand.
