Poured 12oz can into snifter glass. 8.4% abv

Appearance- Pours dull, somewhat dark nectarine orange. Twofinger head.

Smell- Fresh citrus fruit such as mango and orange. Some Pineapple as well.

Taste- A sweet caramel malt goes into into a citrus kick. Quite sweet with mango like qualities rising above the grapefruit-esque citrus notes. The citrus flavor winds down into a pine blast with increasing bitterness.

Mouthfeel- Medium in body with lively carbonation.

Overall- A good and flavorful DIPA. Decent. Really nice appearance as well. This one was hopped generously. This is evident from taste, not to mention the 90 IBU's. A good and potent double that comes from a can!

Poured from a 12oz. can into a tall tupil glass. 2 fingers of off-white head, fairly creamy and left a fair amount of lacing throughout the session.

Smells of light-roast malts, a small amount of citrus, and some pine. Not a lot of fruitiness but still smells bitter like a solidly-hopped IPA nevertheless. Perhaps a bit of maple notes after further review.

A bit lighter-tasting at first than I expected, especially after the strong nose. A lot of malt and pine hits first on the tongue and that piney bitterness in the back of the throat at the finish. Definitely boozy but very tasty as it warmed up. Could benefit from a bit more carbonation.

Overall- I picked two cans up on a whim and very glad I did. This is a very affordable and tasty IPA I would recommend and surely try again. Well done, Sly Fox!

Side note- I almost wish there an optional rating scale for value, since this is a very well-crafted and expensive-tasting IPA but with a low price tag. If it were $3.50 a can I would have given it a 4.25 overall, but considering I paid only $2.00 I gave it a 4.5 overall.

Taste is pine, tangerine, citrus fruit, and husk. This beer is very bitter even for the style, yet somehow manages to remain clean. A nice double IPA that I really enjoyed, but have others I prefer in the style. Happy I got a six pack though.

Amber color with a fingers worth of white head. Smells of pine, citrus, and some caramel. Taste is similar to the smell, lots of pine bitterness, lighter on the tropical fruits, citrus, and caramel. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Overall maybe a little too bitter in the taste, but I enjoyed it and would drink again.

12 oz can into a teku.

Appearance: Pours a hazy copper color. The head is two fingers high and off-white in shade. I really love the dense, thick texture, not to mention its softness. Retention isn't balls-out amazing, but when it does fade, a lot of lacing is left on the glass. (3.75)

Smell: It's definitely bringing more maltiness than hop goodness. Lots of caramel, toffee, and earth comes through, mainly. The hops that do appear take on tones of pineapple, grapefruit, and some grass. If someone drew up on a board what the average DIPA would smell like, this would be it. No more, no less. (3)

Taste: Starts off malty. Plenty of caramel and toffee give way to a faint kiss of tropical fruits (mainly pineapple) appearing past the middle, lingering into the aftertaste. I will say, I am enjoying some of the fruity esters that appear near the back end (peach and apricot, primarily) quite a bit. After a few sips, the finish becomes almost weed-like. After a few more sips, I'm reminded of those little Welch's fruit snacks. This features good complexity in general (which really isn't that common in a DIPA), but none of the notes really come together to excite my palate. (3)

Mouthfeel: Not quite as sweet finishing or heavy as some DIPAs, but it isn't a bastion of crisp dryness, either. No wait, after drinking about half of it...it is pretty damn sweet finishing and heavy. Still, drinkability is on par with many DIPAs. The carbonation does a half-hearted attempt to poke through the wall of sweetness. (3)

Overall: This ain't half bad - it just isn't impressive. Its flavor profile reminds me of some triple IPAs I've had (boozy tropical fruits, overt sweetness, minimal bitterness), which isn't what I really want from a double. Worth a shot, but I won't be buying it again. (3)

Lots of buttering hops in this imperial India pale ale from sly fox. Think of this a west coast version of their 113 ipa
