2012 version of the beer, served in a Goat races stein, the runner up drank a portion of this beer because I wasn't paying attention. Oops.

Beer is red / amber with a mild haze and a nice white / off white head of medium and small bubbles, low retention, moderate to low carbonation, looks good.

Aroma is yeasty, sweet, smells nice.

A decent beer, better after some goat saliva was added, it is mildly sweet and strong with a nice finish, a good lager for sure. I'd have it again, with or without the goat spit.

2012 version of the Peggy, two time champion. Poured from THE FIRKIN right after the 2012 race into my Sly Fox mug.

A: A medium golden color with some hints of orange. Huge 4 finger head eventually recedes into the mug. Lacing is left.

S: Grainy, bready, slightly hoppy and some slight citrus.

T: Grainy and bready malts are coupled nicely with the grassy and floral hops. Straw, hay, malt all mix together and make a very drinkable beer. Finish is a bit bitter with hops to keep the whole beer balanced. No alcohol and creamy from the firkin. Nice, but not overly complex.

M: A little on the thin side, but still enjoyable. No alcohol.

O: A real nice easy drinking maibock that was enjoyed after the race. I just wish people would be more civilized when lined up waiting for free beer. Anyway.

Overall a nice drinker and congrats to the 2 time winner of the race, Peggy. If you see this on tap, try it.

Served on tap at Cork City Pub in Hoboken, NJ

A: Pours a clear copper in color. The beer has an extremely thin off-white head that quickly dissipates to absolutely no head. No amount of lacing is observed.

S: Light to moderate amounts of bready malts along with some floral and grassy hops.

T: The beer has a bready malt body with moderate amounts of bitterness from the grassy and floral hops.

M: Medium bodied with light to moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly thin.

O: Enjoyable and easy to drink. A little too strong to be sessionable but still one to try.

According to the Sly Fox website: Each year, this traditional Spring beer, brewed with German Vienna and Pils malts and Hallertauer hops, is named in honor of the winner of the Annual Sly Fox Goat Race. Each year's version is slightly tweaked from the previous year's to make it special. The 2011 race was won on May 1st by Peggy, besting the largest field ever of 54 goats.

So, after a leadoff Helles Bock, Peggy was #2 in the lineup. A 10oz offering set me back $3.75.

This one was a clear, medium copper hue, perhaps a touch towards dark golden. Slow carbo was evident, and a thin, white head sat up top, with good lacing. Mild breadiness hit the air, with some floral hops also present. A medium body was evident, along with a smooth, easy passing over the tongue.

Bready, toasty malts lend a light sweetness to the affair, with a touch of caramel to boot. It's a little bit floral, along with some fruitiness, as in green apple and pear. Not a killer, but a bit better than their standard Helles Bock, Still, a tasty offering! Zum Wohl!!!

On-tap at the 2012 Goat Races. Congratulations to Peggy, two time goat race champion!

A - Served with a clear, golden body with carbonation bubbles racing to the top...those bubbles produced a two finger, creamy, white head and allowed it to fall slowly to a full cap...nice lacing

S - Bready and toasted malts, hints of caramel, grassy hops

T - Everything came together nicely on the palate...the toasted malts started things off and gave way to the buttery bread flavor in the middle...not a lot of graininess coming through which was pleasant...sweet caramel intertwines itself throughout the beer...the grassy hops give a nice earthy finish to the beer

M - Medium bodied...slightly syrupy, not overly sweet, earthy finish

O - This was the official start of summer for me...enjoyed Peggy's Maibock right after she made a triumphant victory over the other 50+ goats!

First had: on tap at Johnny Brenda's, Philly, PA

Of note was that Peggy, the winner of the goat race, had only three legs. Anyway.

Poured into a pint glass, Peggy's namesake beer poured a clear golden color, with a small, delicate head of white bubbles, with decent lacing. Grassy aroma, floral hops, grains, and sugary malts. Similar taste, with toasty grains in the foreground, caramel malts, bready, grassy, with an accompanying light burst of fruit--apples and honeydew--coming in afterward. Light-medium mouthfeel, and quite drinkable.
