I stopped into North East on my way home to RI for Thanksgiving and was pleasantly surprised even though I had a pretty good idea of what to expect based on previous reviews below. The selection was comparative to other great beer stores and really impressive considering the small town where it's located. Everything said previously is accurate, but the one note I would add is about the wide array of vintages they had laying around. I am not sure if the store has trouble turning over merchandise due to its location or the vintages are put out intentionally (unlikely since the vintages were not highlighted, but rather discovered when I picked up a bottle and looked at it). A few things they had laying around was a 2010 Stone RIS, Stone 09.09.09, 2009 Ten Fidy, and a 2006 Abbaye De Saint Bon-Chien. All reasonably priced, without "vintage mark-ups." Overall a great place and will stop by again.

Edit: Upon 2nd visit, had significant interaction with the beer manager and staff and they were extremely helpful. (1,019 characters)

Really great local store to have around. Their craft beer selection is truly incredible for the location, Dayville/Killingly is a normal small northeast CT city, so you don't expect much until you actually walk through the doors. Even if they don't have it, they can probably get it for you. A very friendly staff that is always willng to help you out. Best of all, any beers in a pack can be pulled as singles and you are free to make your own six-packs at a 10% discount. This is my go-to store to pick up a new variety of beers to try. WIll always have my business while I am in the area. (591 characters)

This is my local GO-TO Store. They have some awesome staff that i've become friends with that actually have craft beer knowledge. Friendly workers, great prices, overall very clean store. Love it! Whenever I have a question about a certain kind of beer, whether it be style or brewery, they always have the answers. There's some places that when you walk in...you feel dirty and grimey immediately...you know the places that I'm talking about. Northeast Wine & and Spirits is very clean, bright and welcoming. Not only do they have a pretty good selection of beers, but their wine selection is wonderful as well. You should be able to find most anything that you're looking for there...provided we're in the distribution area. But, they will special order anything for you (if I can remember correctly) for no charge. (817 characters)

I can't say anything bad about this place. Excellent selection of beers, wine, and liquors. And if they don't have it, they will gladly special order it for you (no extra charge). It's nice that you can make your own six pack if you just want to try one bottle and you get 10% off. Sometimes you get the 10% off of all size bottles (12oz, 22oz, etc) and other times it's only for the 12oz ones...guess it just depends on the cashier. The big guys who usually work in the back (don't' know their names!) are very knowledgeable about the beer and are more than willing to help you. (579 characters)

I found this place through word of mouth of a friend in the area and now my new house is only 5 minutes away and it's my go to place.

The amount and quality of beer that they offer is amazing for the area. The prices are very competitive and I find they are usually a little cheaper than other stores in the area.

John, the V.P. and beer guy is very knowledgeable and keeps up to date with new beer and limited releases. The rest of the staff is semi knowledgeable, but a standard BA will have more info on the beers.

The Dayville store has moved a couple store fronts down from it's old location and it is now a lot larger and allows for a more organized layout of the beer section with no beers hidden behind others.

I can easily say this is the best beer store in Northeast Connecticut and blows the competition away!!! (826 characters)

Well being from maine this place has a way better selection then anything I can get there. Many many cantillons and also many other lambics. Saw some thomas hardy there. very great selections. wasn't too impressed with there 7.99 mix a six deal where you can pick from a selection of old beers they are trying to get rid of. This reminded me of tims little big store in old town but at least they only charged you like 2.50 a six pack there. Very impressed will need to stop on my way back through will pick up those thomas hardys i think. (539 characters)

Outstanding selection of beers. Good amount of bombers as well. I always take advantage of their make-your-own-6-pack, which is great since you can pick from any beer in the store, not just a certain few. I also believe that when you make your own sixer you get 10% of off the prices of each single. I go here frequently and always walk out with a 6pack of new beers to try as well as a few bombers. Also check out their newer store in Plainfield, CT. Exit 87 off of 395 in the Big Y plaza. More of the same good stuff there. (525 characters)

I found this place while on vacation by reading the Yankee Beer periodical I picked up in Boston Beer Works. I was going to a cottage right down the road. I had been looking for Thomas Hooker beers for years in package stores all across Southeast Conneticut and Southwest Rhode Island and this is the only place that I found them. I was able to take singles of items I wanted to try out of full six packs which is a good option when you are trying to taste a variety of beers that you can't normally purchase. I also saw prepackaged growlers from at least three different microbreweries. I agree that this is one of the best beer stores I have ever visited. (657 characters)

Located right over the RI line (40 mins from providence) I have passed this place many times and never would have imagined the craft beer haven that it was inside. The selection was amazing, pretty much to the point that if its available in the area they had it. A very good selection of warm singles with the mix a six option available, and also a good selection of craft brews in the fridge. I had a brief conversation with the beer manager, and he was quite helpful (also pointed out I had one of the last Imperial Stout Troopers anywhere) Overall a great store right where I wouldn't expect to find one. (607 characters)

Right off 395 in CT, exit 93? Killingly/Danielson, in the supermarket plaza, hard to miss.

Beer aisle has lots of Belgians and special release big bottles, warm storage for many US micros. Coolers cover the gamut from US micros, more local fare, etc etc. Seems like if you're looking for it, there's a good chance NE will have it. Lots of odd/rare things to be had that you don't see very often anywhere else, which is cool to me.

Left with a couple bags and $40 lighter, I think I got off easy this time. I'll be back.

Not really on the way to much, but worth going out of the way for. (596 characters)

Easy on-off from I-395 from Boston to southeastern CT. Norteast Wines and Spirits is located in a strip mall across the street from the town's McDonald's; very easy to find.

The establishment is quite large in space (think your average size Blockbuster store); and as you walk in, the beer selection is located in the first aisle directly in front of you. Approximately thirty feet of shelfing (3 to 4 shelves high) contain a very impressive selection of Belgian, import, local, and nation-wide single bottle offerings. Multiple Fantomes (including the Noel), about seven Cantillons, St. Bernardus, Westmalle, Rochefort, Orval, etc. are just a few of the Belgians. Imports include Aecht (German Rauch's), plenty of vintage Harvey's, etc. US craft offerings include: handful of Rogue bombers (including a special anniversary swing top in the ceramic bottles), handful of Allagash (including their newest IPA offering), handful of Southern Tier (barleywine, hoppe, java stout, etc), handful of Southampton, New England's Imperial Stout Trooper, full line of Smuttynose, handful of Avery (including The Meph), full line of DFH (including d'extra, WWS, and 120), handful of Great Divide (Yetti, Oaked Yetti, DIPA, Old Ruffian), Weyerbacher (Heresy, Prophecy), etc. In addition to a very impressive single bottle selection, craft six/twelve packs line the cooler space directly to the right (and straight ahead) of the singles. It was surprisingly calm for a Saturday evening, so there weren't too many staff members that I noticed; however, I can't say a bad word about a staff who brings in such a quality, dynamic selection as they have.

Bar none the best quality selection East of the CT river. Northeast is probably overall the second best beer store I've been to in CT, behind Mountview. A must stop if it's on your way; and a worthwhile trip for some unique offerings, even if it's not on your way. (1,908 characters)

It really shows that John is putting effort into getting new beer and supporting his customers. I have sent beermail requests and questions and he always folows thru. Local NewEngland micro's, Belgains, specialty beer and more.

Every time I walk in there are new items to choose from and great advice. He spends time and always remembers who you are. I haven't been disappointed, great store a must stop.

Located in the Stop and Shop plaza easy on/off rte 395. Saves me a trip to the warehouse stores in MA! (516 characters)

As soon as you walk in and discover the "beer" you know someone has done thier homework. John and I have become good friends. He knows his beer in and out and is always ready to give a helping hand to his customers. The selection is excellent and by far the best I've seen in connecticut. John is always keeping tabs on all the inventory, adding whenever he can. If you don't see it, just ask! John will do whatever he can to get it for you in a timely fashion.

No complaints here, Excellent service, Selection, and great prices!!!! Keep up the good work John. (564 characters)

Considering its location in the "quiet corner" of Connecticut,Northeast W & S is one of the best places to buy beer in New England. John is a good buddy of mine and always keeps me posted on new offerings from every possible brewery he can get his hands on.Thats the great thing,if it is distributed to Connecticut, then John can and will get it for you. Same goes for kegs. It takes someone who is passionate about beer to have a quality beer selection and that is exactly what John has with Northeast. John is always in close contact with various people within the industry and also well repected by those same people thus allowing him to take in the latest and greatest beers on the market. So if you know what you want or even if you have no clue at all, stop in at Northeast Wines & Spirits and let ole "cooperip"(John) help you pick from the best beer selection in the state of Connecticut. (894 characters)

This place is exploding with great beers; it's a bit out of the way for me, so I've only been there twice, with six months between visits. And I'm here to tell ya that the beer selection has increased big time from an already impressive lineup. Every Belgian available in CT is on the shelves (DeuS, Cantillon, six Trappist, La Chouffe, etc)...or soon will be if I know John. Along with the usual regional micros, North American micros include Southampton, Ommegang, Unibroue, Rogue, Victory, Avery, Moylan's, Lagunitus, North Coast, Arcadia, Weyerbacher, etc. John (BA cooperrip) is a beer freak, knows his products well, and enjoys bringing the initiated and uninitiated alike into his world...and besides that, he's a great guy. If you stop in be sure to say hi.

Cheers, Mark (781 characters)

Needless to say this store has completely changed since John took over. The selection is by far unsurpased anywhere in eastern ct as well as most of the surrounding states. I tend to stop in each week and try something new and they usually have some great specials as well as weekly tastings on fridays, they have a list up or i would say call and see what is coming. This is no longer your mom and pop 30 pack distribution center it was when it was A&P. It has a breat selection of micro as well as beligum and other beers from around the world. I no longer need to go anywhere else. GREAT JOB!!! (597 characters)

A big congratulations to John the beer manager, for making this a beer lovers package store. North-east Connecticut (The quiet corner) can be a hard place to to find a good variety of intersting and off-beat beers, but this place has them. You will find lots of Belgian offerings, as well as a good selection of German beers, and American micros. If you live in the quiet corner and need to broaden your beer palate, head to NE Wines & Sprits. My suggestion (if your budget allows) is to skip the basket and go for the shopping cart, you will surely fill it. (558 characters)

Largest selection of beers in Northeast CT by far and is growing weekly. Many New England beers available including Thomas Hooker, Smuttynose and Harpoon (100 barrel series). Great variety of Belgians, imports and national micros including Southampton, Southern Tier, Cooperstown Brewing, Ommegang, Dogfish, Victory, Brassarie des Rocs, Saison du Pont and Thomas Hardy. Too many to list.
Prices are the best I've seen around here and even in MA.
Managers are great and will special order products for you. Informative tastings are done frequently by the Manager John.
Check this place out if you're in the area. Definately worth the drive from any point in Eastern CT, R.I. and MA.

*EDIT*
Have since changed review and I'll tell you why. Since I reviewed the store last year, John has brought in more and more beers to N.E.W.S. He is the ONLY store in eastern CT to carry Berkshire. He went out of his way to acquire beer from this incredible local brewery. He has logs of not only BBC always available, but also gets hard to find offerings like Curieux, Brooklyn Black Choc Stout, and Old Rasputin. He works hand in hand with distributors and breweries alike to get the best beers into the state. Like other people have mentioned in their reviews, John also has every Belgian available in the state, not to mention craft beers I haven't seen east of the river.
So to sum up: Incredible selection, unmatched service, dedication to educate the public on craft beers, and the desire to be the best beer store in the state. This is why N.E.W.S. gets all 5's in my book.
Keep up the good work John. (1,608 characters)
