On tap during philly beer week. Served in a wine glass. From notes.

A- Da Phunk came to me in a wine glass looking red, almost ruby like in appearance. Nothing in terms of head.

S- A bit of fruit essence some plums, cherries with a nice amount of oak from the wood barrel. A nice funky aroma from the brett but not much.

T- The oak from the barrel is what I get most and reading other reviews I guess they upped the phunk's stay in the wood. Serving this in a wine glass is fitting as a bunch of vinious qualities emerge. Sour cherries and apple with some funky brett.

M- A bit undercarbonated and I think could improve with some more but im not complaining. Medium bodied while not puckering at all. Good stuff.

D- My small wine glass was enough. This really did not appeal to me all that much but I cant turn down a wild ale, I must try them all before I die. Alot more funky sour and some more carb and we could have a winner. Glad to see a local brewed wild.

This beer has a hazy, light brown color to it and is topped by a tan colored, frothy textured head. The aroma is sour with a backdrop of dry fruitiness that definitely doesn't smell sweet at all; aromas similar to tart plums, fermented raisins, sour apple and some light fig notes all seem to mix together. There are some slight phenolic notes towards the finish that add a bit of an edge to the aroma and provide something like a balancing spiciness. As the beer warms up the nose gets more fruit focused, which allows the cherry note to come out more prominently.

The beer is quite fruity tasting up front and reminds me of plums and a light cherry note. The beer has a nice tartness to it and it has a lightly astringent finish that provides a bit of balance and structure. There is a light wood-like character to this beer as well as some spicy oak like notes. These wood-like flavors are soft enough that they could just be fermentation character; I can't quite tell if any wood aging was actually done here. Some malt flavors start to come through as the beer warms up a bit and provides a nice toasty backdrop to the other flavors. I like the texture of this beer, it is quite drinkable, but there is just enough of a viscous lushness to it to provide some textural balance to the flavors.

This beer came a foggy orange and cherry color in a tulip. It seemed to glow, but there was no head at all.

Smelled of pine apple, sour apple, fresh tobacco and a sour funk to finish it off.

Tasted of bright, tart cherry and sandy white flour which collapsed into a lactic sour and a touch of rye grain. This then mingled with a tingly, funky tartness. It finished off with an emphasis on the lactic tones with a touch of ash.

Felt dull and heavy with a sparse carbonation that helped spice up the funk a bit.

A neighborhood offering with bret? Nice. I recommend this one to be paired with a salty sandwich.
