Have been here multiple times, this is such a good place. There is always a crowd, but it is never too crowded (at least when I am there). Located on Sansom Street, 2 blocks from Monk's.
The seating can be a little tight, depending on where you are. We were initially pressed up/back to back with another table, until requesting to move to a window seat. Once there, it was fine.
Ordered a sampler, big samples (turns out they charge $2 a sample = $14 for the whole thing, pretty steep). A good selection of beers, from the sour ale Phunk, the BPA (a medium hopped IPA), a tasty Pilsner, their famous Grog (a dark roasted, flavorful brown ale) and 3 others. The Spring Ale, high in citrus flavor was refreshing.
Great service. The waitress was friendly and knew the beers.
The food was good, but high end or pretentious. Some entrees and a lot of sandwiches. I had the muffaleta which was extremely good. The mozzarella/tomato appetizer was decent as well.
I really like this place. It is right across the street from a parking garage too. While Philly has a million beer bars, this is one of the few brewpubs around. A must stop for visiting and local beer lovers alike.
