I think I passed on trying other beers from this brewery in the past. Not sure why. Maybe the price was prohibitive.

This is a good ris. Thick malty profile with a sweet tone that is pretty prevalent. Mild smoke. Lots of chocolate malts. Feel is smooth. This is a very easy drinker with excellent robust character that doesn't get all the way out there on you, but shows that it's carrying muscle. Pretty pricey, but worth it I say.

310ml glass at the Local Taphouse.

Inky black, really nice looking mocha foam on top that adds some lacing as it falls.

First up a lot of licorice to smell, then some belgian chocolate and then some roasted malt. Really profound licorice smell dominates, but not offensive.

Chocolate and plenty of it to taste. Mix of dairy milk and more bitter dark chocolate. You expect a lot of licorice to follow the smell, but its a bit player here. Adding some, but not being too assertive until the very end. Some roast & coffee too.

Thick. Smooth, so smooth!! Big bodied, some licorice bite at the end to break up the smoothness. Wow!

Impressive. 8.7% really?! Very impressed. Big stout, full of flavour & body. Probably the two best beers the Taphouse had on for Saturday's event were still around on Tuesday. Says plenty.

Incredibly rich, lush, and creamy- Marble's Decadence covers all the bases of complexity. From fruit to spice to roasty, and smoke- no stone is left unturned as this ultra complex Stout marches through all the flavors that define the style.

As the "decadent" ale pours a lush and creamy appearance of dark roast coffee, its black hue calmly releases a light sandy head that culminates on the surface and then holds firm in espresso-like creme form. Intricate lacing trails on the glass and gives the beer a final look of quality.

Its strong aromatic presence is of French-press coffee, bittersweet chocolate, campfire smoke, grape and aniseed fruit and spice and an underlying presence of malted milkshakes. Yet it's taste is governed by the roast- the strong taste of freshly ground espresso wraps around cocoa-heavy chocolates and is then supported by heavy whipping cream, roasted walnut, and powdered sugar. Complementing notes of licorice, fennel, and anise round out the rummy finish with an unexpected twist of hearty fruit and spice.

Full bodied for sure, the ale's restrained carbonation keeps the beer velvety and smooth throughout. Its slow and deliberate turn to rum warmth, roasty bitterness, finishing ash gives the beer a confident close with lingering chocolate and coffee in aftertaste.

Decadence is a wonderful Imperial Stout that borrows smoky chocolate overtones and subtle Scottish Ale-like estery fruit notes for added complexity and intrigue.

Poured into a Maudite snifter. Pours pitch black with a two finger fine light brown head with great retention and lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, licorice, light and dark fruit. Flavor follows with toasted malt, char, licorice, dark dried fruit, charred coffee. Finishes somewhat dry with roasted malt and a hint of smoke and char. Medium bodied, a bit light for an imperial stout. A nicely made RIS with rich flavor with a less complex finish. Like the 2010 review, this is bottle listing 8.7% ABV, so slightly changed from the original entry.

Originally brewed in 2007 as a one off to celebrate the breweries tenth anniversary, they decided to tweek the recipe slightly and release it to the masses at a marginally stronger 8.7%.

Comes in a awesome looking 750ml corked and wax sealed bottle. Unlike some beer nowadays, they haven't just wax sealed it for a gimmick, it is properly sealed and a bugger to get off (took a good 10 minutes with a sharp knife). Brilliant for cellering though.

Pours as a midnight black, thick, tar-like liquid. Small brown head, which fades to a wispy thin layer. Very little visable carbonation. The aroma is surprisingly hoppy, with a bitter acidy smell. There are tons of rich roasty malts, notes of coffee, oak, leather, and blueberries. The taste is full off bitterness, strong espresso, dark chocolates, charcoal bitter almost. Silky smooth, and soft with a medium body.

Great beer. Definitely one to get your hands on, and I can imagine it would be well worth cellaring (I have!).

Limited brew, only 1000 undertaken in recognition of the brewpub's anniversary.

A - Dense, jet black color with touches of ruby. Thick, creamy tan head with noticeable carbonation bubbles.

S - Roasted malts and wonderful bitter chocolate notes

T - Again, roasted (but not smokey) malts with an alcohol presence. Bitter chocolate-like finish

M - Thick and viscous, but not overly so on either accounts. More carbonation than I expected

D - This is definitely a beer that deserves respect as well as time. Therefore, the drinkability might not be as high for some. I found I moved through the sample quick than I had wanted, though.

Overall, this was a superb brew and great interpretation of the style. Very fantastic, and I would recommend time and again.
