Lets face it, we're reviewing places for their beer selection not their wine selection. For the size of this store there is not a large ammout of craft beer sold here. If you are looking for some good Stone brews like Stone IPA, Stone Smoked Porter, you'll find it here. There are also a good variety of Sam Adams, Harpoon, and a few other craft breweries. The problem I have is that there is for the most part, macro beers here. Then a large ammount of wine. If wine is your thing. The prices were pretty good though for what good beers they had and the service was pretty friendly. I didn't try to really test their beer knowledge at all but it was fine for what I needed for the night. Good beer and a good price.

Great store with the widest selection of beers in Quincy and possibly the South Shore area of Boston. The store commonly has wine tastings, beer tastings, promos and occasionally puts a rare beer on the shelf post season. I walked in to find a Founders KBS 4-pack just sitting on the shelf long after I thought this world class beer was sold out nationwide.

Probably the biggest liqour store in Quincy, but by no means the best selection. Wine choices here are good, but thats not what Beer Advocate is for! They seem to overstock the macros, have a decent selection of local brews but their variety/amount of imports could be much better. There are smaller stores like Old Colony which have a wide variety of imports despite being maybe half the size. The staff have always been helpful, though could be a little more prompt from time to time, which could in part be due to being able to see you in their big store.

This is a solid if not unspectacular beer store centrally located in Quincy. All of the prices were reasonable. Service was friendly and talkative. They have a lot of macro beer and local offerings. I was pleased to find some of the Sam Adams barrel series that have not made it down to the south shore yet. They also had some Belgians and domestic microbrews. For a store this size, I expected to find more. What I found was good, but there are other places in the area like Old Colony with more selection.

Nothing special about this place, feel like their beer selection is average at best, I've noticed that often they don't have a lot of sam adams in stock, which says a lot about the place. Staff was unhelpful and more concerned with their own conversations than my purchase, and behaved very snobby towards me, which I didn't appreciate. Prices also didn't impress me, appeared pretty much on par or above the area, nothing special didn't feel like I was getting any type of deal with the purchase I prefer Supreme right around the corner, better selection and service

When you walk in you see what could be a potential gold mine for anything you want. However once you start browsing you notice it doesn't seem that way. However all the good stuff you should really ask Bob for because he might have it hidden or on a special display somewhere. Prices are very reasonable. Service is always very good in terms of willing to help, but they don't always know where everything is. Bob is also willing to order for you, so ask. Overall I'm a fan and this has become a regular place I check for the limited release stuff.

What roussee said still holds true, but I didn't even see most of the beers he mentioned. Almost all of the cooler space is taken by Macro products. Only a small selection of micro stuff, half of which is outside the coolers. A couple baskets of singles, but nothing crazy. Maybe they haven't had a shipment in a while, but I was surprised at the lack of micro selection. The service isn't very knowledgeable, but very friendly, which is a benefit. You really shouldn't go out of your way for this place though. Stick with Old Colony.

Great store for everything else, like single malt scotches and other spirits.

A large store that is centrally located. Considering the size of the place (its big), the beer selection could be a lot better. Heres the biggest negative on the place-- They have a big section of refrigerated beers but way too much space is taken up for macros and less desireable craft beers like Shipyard, Pete's, Buzzards Bay, Post Road etc. There were some DFH and Stone IPA that were cold but that was about it. They had a great selection of room temperature beers but even here, it seems like they could use their space better to fit more of them in. They were not very well organized either. Here they had Smuttynose, Long Trail, all the Ommegang products, Sam Smiths (most of 'em), DFH, and a few others that I like. I got some Harvest ale by Long Trail and some Smuttynose. Quality on them was fine. Service was slow and there were extra people working. They just chose to let the line at the cash register grow, rather than opening a new one. A good store if you are out in the Wollaston area of Quincy. Dont go out of your way too far.

UPDATE 2009 - Been here a few times lately and some the selection and service has declined. Actually, the service kinda sucks. Personally, I would much rather go down to the street to Supreme Liquors.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

Wollaston Wine & Spirits is located on Beale Street in the Wollaston area of Quincy. The store is located at a convenient location between Hancock Street and Newport Avenue. It's also T accessible right next to the Wollaston stop on the Red Line.

It's a large store that has a great beer selection as well as wine & liquor. When you first enter the store, there are various coolers all along your left. They have all your typical macros and then a solid selection of imports. For this review, I will focus primarily on their craft beer offerings.

Here are the 6 pack highlights: Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA, Raison D' etre, Rogue Dead Guy Ale, Smuttynose IPA, Stone IPA, Allagash White, Victory Golden Monkey, Victory Hop Devil, Harpoon IPA, Leffe, SN Celebration Ale, Anchor Our Special Ale and Anchor Steam. Great selection of Sam Adams beers as well as some other local beers such as Wachusett Blueberry & Winter Ale. They carry Long Trail (12 packs of LT Ale and Hibernator), Magic Hat and Harpoon.

As you walk back towards the store, there are a ton of warm cases of beers out of display. The last cooler is for singles and some special stuff including the Sam Adams Chocolate Bock & Harpoon 100 Barrel Series.

Also located in the back is a presentation of Chimay Grande Reserve, Duvel, Ommegang, Rare Vos, and Hennepin. On this presentation shelf is a nice selection of Samuel Smith's including the IPA, Nut Brown Ale, Taddy Porter and Oatmeal Stout. There are also some Stone IPA bombers there.

Prices are competitive and reasonable. Service was good. I've never been asked if I need any help finding something, but on my most recent visit the cashier was friendly and outgoing.

Overall, this is one solid liquor store with a good beer selection.
