This beer pours perfectly clear. It has a nice head. But it's ugly to me as it's dark amber, which just seems the oddest color for an IPA. Nose is citrus and pine. Flavor is...an odd mix of both as well, it seems. It all just comes together to form something...weird. I don't get it really. They broadcast citra was used in this, and I guess I do get that. But the majority of the character in this beer just seems to work against anything citra going on here.

Got a half growler filled today at the brewery. In true East End fashion, they love to use sweet caramel and crystal malt in beers that have no business bearing any sweetness. The color is absurdly dark for an IPA, bordering on red ale territory. Big white head that lingers. The nose is pure citra hops. Grapefruit, apple juice, orange, pineapple, etc. Just a bunch of fruity smells. The taste is similar to the nose. There is a surprising lack of sweetness despite the color and malt profile that would suggest otherwise. The finish is a low bitterness with a relatively dry finish.

Overall, if they used straight pale malt or pilsner or basically anything other than the crystal/caramel mix they used, this would be a phenomenal beer gaining widespread attention. In spite of it all, it's still the best non-Gratitude offering East End makes. This is a very good beer that should be great.

Pours a dark orange color with good clarity. White soapy head gets laced on the glass. The aroma is huge of tropical (pineapple, papaya) and citrus. When the beer is poured it fills the whole immediate area with a hoppy blast.

In the taste, grapefruit, pine and orange come through nicely with a complimentary bitterness. The Citra hops easily overtake the firm malt backing, hop oils leaving a stickiness to the palate. A well balanced ale, though leaning towards the hoppy side.

Light to medium bodied, well carbonated brew. Very enjoyable, nice Citra hops, and overall this is a mighty fine Green Giant. I'd reach for this one again.
