Had the stout from a cask at Fat Heads in Pittsburgh's south side. Poured from the cask into a glass faceted stein with a deep dark appearance with medium to big dark brown bubbles forming a frothing chocolate ice cream like head which lingered for awhile.
Aroma of dark roasted malted barley, cocoa, and hops but the dark roast was predominant over the rest.
Served from the cask at the right temperature for me (cool but not cold). Mouth feel was excellent with the temperature bringing out the right amount of carbonation that dissipated and fizzed when sloshed around.
Tasted very much what I was after with the first brew of the evening. I really liked how the dark roast was evident. There was a subtle battle of bitterness between the balance of hops and the dark roasted malts. As the stout warmed the sweetness really opened up along with more roasted smell.
Definately a drinkable beer from the cask. I'd like to try one in a regular draft.
