Wow! MUCH THANKS to RblWthACoz right off the bat. This cloudy yellow gold liquid frothed up a two finger head that sat for a couple of minutes and faded to pond scum in my Sissions's weiss glass. My wife's Erdinger glass produced a much better head with improved retention as well. Good carbonation activity can be discerned through the fog of yeast. A few streaks and spots of lace on the glass.
Smell is where it gets interesting. There is an almost Belgian like funkiness that while not the main feature, sets the nose of this weiss apart right away. There is clove and lemon with the clove taking the lead in this dance. The beat is spicey, peppery, and twangin' with wheat. It really draws you in to find out what it's all about.
Taste baby! Yeah! A large dose of clove and white pepper with the funk. Lemon and wheat malt structure hold it all together. There are green apples in there somewhere. Then there is the big banana, lots of banana. There is a crisp finish featuring pepper that while not hoppy has a mildly bitter edge and a lovely sour twang that calls forth the green apples again as it fades into an almost holiday spiced white breadiness. Flavor gets bigger as it warms up. I love this. It appeals to the traditionalist in me while bringing a new edge to the table, uhhh glass.
Mouthfeel is super creamy with a slightly more weighty presence than usual that only adds to the delight in my mouth. The carbonation is tingly and vivacious. The refreshing quality is a delight. Quenching qualities superb.
Drinkability is just super. It's freezing outside and I'm ready to session this growler with a good meal, a bowl of chips and Sunday night football. You can drink all you want and each swallow brings a smile. Refreshing at any reasonable temperature.
Don't make the mistake of drinking this too cold. I pulled it from my cellar which is at it's colder range now and it was perfect from start.
Serving type: growler
