Thanks to Stakem for sharing this, enjoyed chilled in a tulip.

The color is like used motor oil -black and viscous with very thin medium tan head which has more legs than lace. the smell is rich and malty with a dark roasty and earthy nose, mild coffee and a slight smoky accent with dark cocoa. The feel is rich and sweet up front not quite syrupy or cloying, moderate carbonation to a bit on the low side with mild alcohol in the feel and intense roasted texture.

The taste is good with strong bitter malt and almost smoked flavor coming through with dark roasted coffee flavor and slight hint of caramel and a subtle woody character with mild alcohol in the taste and a pretty dry finish. Overall I like this even though I would probably not want a full bottle in one sitting I found it to be high in drinkability and good for the style considering the 11% abv, a quaffable stout.

So this is the re-brew of toaster. The 5th anniversary of their originally released 4th anniversary brew = the 9th anniversary. Bomber format in lieu of the original 1-liter swingtop presentation. Poured into a matching east end snifter, the brew appears black with a mean dark brown head. The brew looks gorgeous with 2 fingers fading down to a thin film leaving patchy lace all over.

The smell includes plenty of roasted elements, slighly charred with earth and minerals. Some citrus hops and a carbonic aspect that is mildly distracting. Instead of a roasty, smoked brew I am left smelling minerals and carbonic character. The aroma is quite disappointing.

The taste is sadly carbonic and mineral filled to the point of not only being distracting but also the main flavor component. It is mildly burnt, ashy and roasted with an earthen feel overtop citrus hops. There is a lingering char aftertaste that brings the only thought of what i believe this brew was suppose to be like.

This is medium to light bodied with lots of carbonation that really lightens up the already mild body even more. Collectively this brew was a let down. I would not seek this out again. I am a big fan of East End but this was a flop.

Been sitting on this one for quite some time. There is a nice smoked tone on this one that lingers. Real thick malts and a real thick body overall. Super smooth feel on it and extremely easy to drink as well. I honestly was expecting something different from this one, but I am still liking it. Too bad it's a one-off.

Poured from a 1 liter swingtop into my Devil's Backbone tulip. It poured pitch black with a dark chocolate colored, bubbly head covering the top of the beer.

The aroma shows a lot of roasty and smoky flavors to it that I'm really enjoying. Some sweeter molasses and milk chocolate come out in it as well. Really nice aroma to it, I loved the smokiness.

The taste also has a very robust smokiness to it. Dark chocolate mixes with some sweeter caramel and molasses flavors. Everything blends together very well. I really loved the flavors in it, especially the burnt smokiness.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied for the style with carbonation being moderate. It's a little slick feeling as well. Overall I thought it was a great beer that has really held up well. I absolutely loved the smoky and burnt flavors it had. It still managed to be pretty smooth and drinkable as well.

From 750mL swingtop growler to Portsmouth glass on 3/24/12
*From notes

-- I owe you one, Bill. Longtime want! --

A: This looks pretty damn good. Dark from edge to edge. A good pour yields a .75 finger mocha head. As it fades, a thick tan collar rims the glass.

S: Smokey as all get-out. This is three years old? Really? Damn, it doesn't seem as such, as the smoked malt invades my nostrils like I'm Kurt Russell in "Backdraft".

T: Char and rich dark roast. It really is unreal how well this has held up. Rich, deep and complex. The smoke here tastes authentic, not like someone doused the beer with liquid smoke.

M: The carbonation is alive and well. This is dense and thick, as any top notch ADIS should be.

O: East End celebrated their 4th Anniversary with style, as their Toaster is pretty damn good. For a non-BA ADIS, this is great stuff. Holding up incredibly well, and could easily take another couple of years in the cellar - maybe more.

Poured from the one liter swing top bottle at recent Christmas party. Poured jet black with a small tan head that lingered a bit. Aromas of roasted malt, smoke, and charred/burnt grain. Taste was quite good: malt goodness, bitter chocolate, some licorice, and smoke. Mouth feel was nice and thick with very little hop bitterness. Wish I had another bottle of this one and/or they'd brew it again as this was quite delicious.
