Not a shabby little shop. Recommended first and foremost for out-of-towners looking to buy singles of local beers. Barriques has a small cooler, about half full with singles of LL, NG, Ty, Cap, etc… Prices are pretty good. A couple other coolers line a back wall containing mostly 6 packs from those same breweries and some of the more common craft breweries like Avery, Rogue, Flying Dog, and Bells. There are a few Belgians available such as Satan Red and Duvel. Staff is friendly. As a local, I think this is a good place to stop in every couple of months to check the singles selection.

So it's a Saturday afternoon, and I don't really have anything to do. How about starting a systematic exploration of Madison area beer stores. Naturally, I turned to beerfly. First on the list is Barriques Wine & Spirits.

Barriques is located just outside of Madison, in Middleton, WI. It's about a block from the Capital Brewery. The focus is on wine, but there is still some good beer. Most beer is in coolers. One cooler is devoted to overpriced singles. Nothing very interesting here, with the notable exception of the bottles of Lake Louie. Down the aisle is another cooler. A couple Belgians, a couple Germans, but mostly bombers of American beer. Rogue, Anderson Valley, Bear Republic. There are a couple more coolers with six packs. Capital, New Glarus, Lake Louie, Arcadia, Avery, Dogfish Head, GLBC, Bells, and more. The selection is good, but not impressive. Quality beers, but nothing rare. Service is fine. Someone asked me if I needed help and then left me alone when I declined. Prices are slightly expensive. This is a decent store that is worth stopping by from time to time.

We paid Barriques a visit before the Capital tour for a little caffeine, and it was fairly busy for a Friday afternoon, just after the lunch hour. Service was friendly and staff was very helpful. I don't have much to add to what others have already noted, although I will say this: nice little place! Top-shelf spirits, fine and value-priced wine and accessories, and plenty of Craft beer to take home do a lot to make this more than just your average neighborhood strip mall bistro.

This location has a decent selection of take-away beer considering their physical size, and is probably worth a visit before/after the Capital tour if you haven't already paid a visit to the more highly-rated retailers in the area. While I was impressed with a couple of prices I was less impressed with a selection of Oktoberfest beers I saw sitting in a sad little huddle near the cold box. Still, it's clear that the folks here mean well, and the past-season beer is priced to move.

This place is fairly new, located just off the beltline at the University Ave exit. It's split in half, on one side is the cafe, serving wine by the glass, tapas, and coffee. The other half is the liquor store.
The focus is predominantly on wine, and tends toward upperscale (though there is a wall of >$10 selections). There is a decent amount of liquor here as well. Beer takes a general backseat, but that's not to say there is no merit to beerhunting here.
The focus, as with everything else, is of quality brews. Though the selection is smallish, lots of goodies are here, some making their only appearance in Madison. Local brews are well stocked, with full lines of the next-door Capital Brewery, Tyranena, Lake Louie, and New Glarus. Plenty of K-zoo, Rogue, and Dogfish Head (with WWS and 120 min). Assorted entries from Arcadia, Flying Dog (including- at this time- Wild Dog), Anderson Valley, Bear Republic, and others. The imported selection is minimal, but a few Belgians dot the shelfs, along with things such as Fullers London Porter, and a Continental lager or two.
The staff know what's going on, and are more than willing to chat, suggest, or stay out of the way.
Prices are on par with other area stores.
For me, this serves as a nice compliment to other larger, local store (i.e Steve's, Woodman's). It's worth a visit if you are on a pan-Madison beer quest.

I stopped here to pickup some bottles for a trade I was doing with a friend from California. They didn't have a very large selection of non Wisconsin beer, but some good beer nonetheless.

I found a bottle of Le Merle and they also carry Three Floyds which I wasn't expecting. I got a bottle of Dreadnaught and two New Glarus 750's.

There wasn't any help in picking out my beers, but that was fine, as I knew what I wanted. As I was checking out I asked if I could grab a few empty beer base boxes to ship my beer out to CA. I was able to get two boxes without a problem.

A nice beer store in Middleton. A decent selection of beer, but I wish it was a bit larger. If this place had a few more bottles I'd consider making it my primary stop.
