The father of American ice beers. Celebrating its 12th year on BA (this review on 03-01-14 is replacing a rating.)
Although I've had Icehouse in 40, 32, and 12 oz. bottles it is really only available in 24 oz. cans where I live.
A: One finger, large-bubbled head from a moderate pour. It only lasts about 30 seconds. Patchy foam and a barely complete bone-white ring last throughout. A darker than normal AAL yellow which, considering, should be perfect seeing as an ice beer is a concentrated AAL. It is an attractive color. More (possibly much more) lacing than you would expect.
S: Salty, metallic, mild citrus, and mild grape. Slight alcohol in the nose. Smells like that regional beer that your grandfather drank exclusively. I'm actually getting a hint of bourbon when everything combines.
T: In my opinion this is the best variation of "that Miller flavor." Salty up front, quickly bitter, then back to salty. Light toasted grain flavor. Sourness. Almost undetectable grape. Finishes very clean. Reminds me of Miller Genuine Draft with less toasty and more salty.
M: Medium carbonation that stings the tongue. Creamy, substantial, and slick. Just outstanding for a beer of this price point.
O: I've enjoyed Icehouse so many times that it was interesting to actually review it critically. For me Icehouse is my "Happy Place" of affordable macros. Super sessionable, cheap, and available everywhere. I'm astounded by the low ratings that other BA's give this beer.
