The good news is that it was free at the golf tournament I played in today. The bad news is, well, it's MGD and it was in a can.
The flavor is more sour than bitter and it should be served ice cold so as not to inflame your taste buds. I guess if your goal is to find a cheap way to drink something that is labeled as 'beer', this one would qualify

O my Lord. How do you really rate the beer of yer indigent youth without bias.

This was my default, O my brothers. My go-to, my backup. Others have Pabst, others have Rolling Rock, others have Yuengling, but mine was MGD.

I have had too many good times on the back end of an MGD to rate it any lower than a 2, but too much presence of mind to rate it any higher.

This is swill. There's no two ways about it. But, O my brothers, in the early to mid 1990s, it had the moniker "genuine", which was enough to sell it to a dork like me.

One night, one glorious night in the relative innocence of the 1990s I got picked up in a bar in Wisconsin after having ten of these by a VERY pretty girl, despite being myself utterly average in every regard, with no effort whatsoever expended on my part, and for that reason, MGD always has a home in my home when push comes to shove.

But it's really awful beer, truth to be told. I wouldn't buy this on purpose in a scenario short of the zombie apocalypse.

I tried this beer one time during the summer of 2012 and thought it was an ok to slightly decent beer. It is not a beer that i would have all of the time, but I would probably recommend it to another to try it. The taste was distinct and was very smooth and different from Miller High Life. The process of making a draft beer gives this beer a different characteristic.

Appearance – Clear, yellow body with strong carbonation and the typical Puxatawny Phil up and down head.

Smell – A light grain aroma, but not a lot. The Bud was a veritable bouquet compared to this nose.

Taste – Typical grain with a good amount of sweetness. Definitely sweeter than The King. It’s not fruit, though. More like Ju-Ju Bees or Gummi-Bears (not the good Gummi-Bears from Germany; those awful ones that they sell at the movie theaters).

What the heck is going on with the finish here? I can’t describe it, but it ruined what little flavor was in the body. I don’t know what that is.

Mouthfeel – Good carbonation and fairly smooth.

Drinkability – Thirty-minutes of prep time in the freezer and canned to keep out the skunk does the trick with this one. That aftertaste though probably took it down a whole point.

This is a crysteal clear, radiently golden beer. It has no head to speak of, but does manage to leave quite a bit of lacing after the pour. Aromas are very light, and of cracked grain. No sickly sweetness to the aroma at all.

For the style, this beer tastes pretty badass. It is refreshingly dry, balanced, and delivers just a splash of fruity hop flavor in the finish. A light but very creamy mouthfeel accentuates these qualities to make this by far my favorite offering from the big 3. It is a very fresh tasting beer with minor, if any, perceptable flaws.

I guess this is drinkable at keg parties but not anywhere else. It poured a clear yellow color with a lightly frothy head that faded after a minute or two. The smell was very sweet and not pleasing at all. The taste was not much better. It was a very sweet taste but a grainy sweetness that got to me after a couple sips. I guess I got used to it after a few sips and it started going down eaiser so I gave it a little bit higher drinkability rating. Overall it is a standard macro that is bland, boring and not worth your time.

not horrable on tap, better than can or bottle. still not by far a good beer but somewhat better than in the bottle. has a flavor to it, not strong but not overly weak either. it was really cheap on tap, so that helps, i guess a fair beer for your value, but i would stick to tap

Blah, definately better out of a bottle by the thinnest of margins.

A: light yellow, quickly disapating head. not really anything special, but it looks like a beer.

S: metal and wet grain. put my nose right in it to get something, not very strong at all and that's likely a very good thing.

T: bland, thin, very little flavor at all. what's there is sweet corn and grains with a metallic aftertaste.

M: like the taste, very thin and watery. combine the two and you get a watery feel with a faint hint of beer taste. perhaps it was the mix with my saliva, but this really froths up in the mouth.

O: it was 32*C (89.6*F) outside at a gathering and these started going down after i ran out of my stock.

Bottom Line: Desperation beer.

Presentation: 12 oz twist-off clear glass long neck bottle, raised glass around the bottom of the neck donning the Miller eagle and “Cold Filtered”. No freshness date.

Appearance: Light straw hue, very clear. Good sticky retention, white lace sticks as much as it can.

Smell: Big husky and cooked cereal grain aroma, the husk is a bit powdery in its astringency.

Taste: Unbelievably extremely smooth and crisp. Moderate body. Thin maltiness bringing mild astringent husk, cracker-like grain and a touch of malt sweetness. All mixed in with the malt is a semi-coarse cereal / adjunct flavour that is somewhere between cooked corn and bran cereal. Hops are all used up and are complacent with just handling the bitterness even though they are quite dull in flavour. Corn grit after taste leaves an odd feeling in the mouth, almost like sucking on a piece of wood.

Notes: This beer would have been ok but the after taste is damaged with an unpleasant dryness. There are other macros that will do a better job of being totally bland to quench your thoughtless thirst.

Plastic bottle, how low can you go? Yellow insipid color, large bubbles. Minimal head, doesnt stick around long. Nose is of corn and a wiff of cabadge. This stuff is bad, real bad. Taste is of corn, rice and faintist note of malt. cant detect hops, sure a few were put in the kettle. lawn mower beer, good on a very hot day.

Pours a light straw yellow, very fizzy, with a one finger head of white bubbles. Surprisingly, the head sticks around for a while, with decent lacing on the glass.

Aroma is pretty strong DMS, light pils malt, with maybe a little spicy hops way in the back.

This tastes better than it smells. The flavor is pretty sweet, light bready pils malt, a matching level of hop bitterness, and maybe a faint spicy/citrus hop flavor. Aftertaste is short, sweet, and mostly flavorless.

Mouthfeel is watery and fizzy, with a sharp zing across the tongue from carbonation. Finish is a short lived fizziness.

Pretty much a standard American fizzy yellow flavorless lager. The smell is really bad, but the flavor is OK for what it's supposed to be. I certainly wouldn't buy this, but at a wedding reception, it was fun to review.

Blech. Pours darker yellow with a giant white head. Disgusting sugar and corn mixture with a cake-batter twist. The taste? Just as awful. Who added sugar water to this corny nightmare? Love the commercials claiming this is grown-up beer. Maybe for those who grew up drinking Meister Brau. Wait a minute...

Served in a chilled glass

Appearance - beer pours a clear crisp ale colour. There is some good carbonation levels and a nice white fluffy head. Lacing is occurring, although minimal.

Smell - this is a blah smelling beer, nothing out of the world. Some grains and maybe corn syrup, the beer doesnt offer a lot of smell features.

Taste - The one word i would use to describe the taste is "fresh". this is a light tasting, not too dynamic beer that offers freshness.

Mouthfeel - Beer does add some dancing to the tongue, but not much. overall its still a fresh tasting beer.

Drinkability - If i want to plow through a dozen beers, MGD would be on my list of beers to use!

Pale golden colored with a trace of white head barely appearing. Light Brussel's lacing. Aroma of corn and faint bittering hops. The mouth is light and crisp. I get corn, light malt and a trace of bittering hops. This is for hot weather and is highly quaffable.

A 500ml clear glass bottle with a BB of Feb 2011, so it's a few weeks out of date. Picked up cheap from my local offie. Label states that this was brewed in the EU under licence from Miller.

Poured into a Sam Smith's pint glass. A clear golden colour with light carbonation. Almost no head - a thin layer of white foam that disappears within seconds of pouring. Faint aroma of light malt and a hint of solvent.

The taste is clean but weak. Light malt with mild sweetness and a slight solvent note upon swallowing. Hints of corn. No discernible hops aroma or bitterness. Mouthfeel is smooth but watery, and lacks crispness due to the low carbonation. Virtually no aftertaste.

Incredibly boring - bland and flavourless. It's dull to look at and has little aroma, taste or body. Amazing to think that this is one of the best selling brands in the US. Avoid - there are so many better beers out there.

This is the official cheap beer of my hood. Every party that I went to back in the day had cases of MGD. Coolers filled to the rim with those gold cans and bottles surrounded by ice.
MGD is like all other macros, but it has a little more behind. It's a tad dryer, pretty smooth and very chuggable.
I'm reviewing this beer because of the place it holds in my heart. We all need a measuring stick when it comes to tasting beer and I use this beer to set my taste-o-beer meter at 1. All of my friends thought the stuff is delicious, but I never got it's appeal.

Poured from a 12 oz. can that had been sitting in the bottom of a fridge for half a year, into a glass 300 ml mug. I don't know what a "bad" beer is supposed to look like but this looks like a pretty standard American macro lager, which it is.

I am, however, surprised by its drinkability, having not had an American macro lager in quite some time now. To me, there is nothing unpleasant about this brew. I never thought I'd say this about a beer like this, but I honestly have tasted much worse German lagers, having lived in Germany for six months and tasted some brews that never make it to the U.S.

It is mostly grassy sweet, with some just a hint of hops bitterness that doesn't last or bite at all. In fact, none of the flavor lasts or really asserts itself in any way. No aftertaste. Smell is a bit skunky but this doesn't come through in the taste. Light mouthfeel, easy drinking, no challenge at all, the mac and cheese of beer. I wouldn't turn my nose up at this on a hot summer day at a BBQ, but I'm not going to be the one to bring it to said BBQ or buy this unless it's really the only beer in the one local store out in the middle of the wild.

Yellow pour, the mildest of soap like head with no retention. Big corn and industry aroma.

More corn taste, high carbonation, corn syrup sweetness without the viscosity, likely from copious amounts of water. Aftertaste is slightly unpleasant, like old wood and bad malt liquor. Just not a good beer. I like many of the adjunct products made in Wisconsin, and this smells delicious when its being made from a distance, (like right around the Marquette interchange), but it is simply not good.

I THOUGHT I had fond memories of a macro that was more drinkable.

So...

Big bubbled, "laundry detergent" head, about 60 seconds of duration. Mid yellow color and just the vaguest of smell. Bubbly taste, a typical macro clean-ness with little more than a corn sweetness attenuated by a slightly bitter finish that comes on like a door slamming. A weird feeling of seltzer water in the esophogus and stomach. Didn't demonstrate much last night, not even worth having to clean the pilsner glass.

MGD, she's definitely looking exactly like a nice full glass of piss. This is definitely a fizzy white beer, and I am not going to be like Stone and say it's for wussies. It's just for people who don't know what good beer is. Some mild sweetness of corn and rice grain origin. Flavor is well, ok a little on the sweet side, but definitely drinkable and for the price I guess you could justify buying it, but why try when there are so many more beers out there deserving the purchase.

This beer pours a very light straw tellow color with a thin white head. Surprisingly, the head fades slowly, leaving a decent lacing.

This beer has a corn like aroma, mixed in with just a touch of spice. No hops. No other aroma at all. Just corn and an ever so slight hint of spices.

This beer tastes exactly like it smells. Corn and spice. Nothing else.

This beer is crisp. It goes down smooth, leaving a corny aftertaste. It is carbonated well for the style.

I think this beer would make a good session beer, if you liked how it tastes. It is low alcohol, so that would not be a problem. I just like a little more taste in my beer. Like any taste.

Overall: I only drank this beer because my brother left some in my refrigerator, and I needed to make room for the good stuff. It is, however, my favorite American Macro Lager.

There is nothing really special about MGD. However, it is not terrible. It is good to order at a restaraunt with food. If you want to enjoy a good beer, this is not a good choice. Have it maybe with a pizza as it won't fill you up, but it will wet your whistle and compliment your food.
