this is a 40 of MALT LIQUOR! it's not that bad. when it's cold you can down half the bottle pretty quick. no weird bitter taste. it's kind of like cheap miller lite. not a lot of carbonation, so you can drink it quicker. just drink half the bottle, put it in the freezer for 20 minutes, then drink the rest. (307 characters)

From a 40! Stamped MAY0514-CO5110027. Sampled on January 12, 2014.

One needs to look at this based on the style rather than on the reputation of American malt liquors...which among craft brew fans is about the lowest it can be.

Malt liquors are supposed to look pale yellow with a big fizzy white head. This does.

malt liquors normally smell of rancid corn, rice, grain, and other adjuncts. This one does not. Yes, those characters are there but they are far more muted. Quite frankly this smells a lot like a standard American pale lager.

Malt liquor bodies are often thin and watery. This one is smooth and about medium.

Malt liquors can make you wince with the metallic taste and overly rambunctious corn and grain characters. There is a bit of that here but this is not cloying or rancid. It is really smooth. If more malt liquors were like this one I'd be drinking a lot of them. Sorry previous raters and BA members, I have to score it much higher than you did. (974 characters)

Magnum has a fairly thick, white head and a very clear yellow-golden appearance. Aroma is skunky (at times from the clear bottle) and grainy. Carbonation is moderate to high. The taste is pretty good, for an inexpensive, mass-produced extra-strong beer. Some slight hop spice does shine through, which cuts the overly malty main taste profile. Mouth-feel is moderate and slimy on occasion (from the bottle). Magnum finishes fairly refreshing and crisp. I like to have this from time to time, and I think people unfairly give it a hard time. Hey, it's a pretty decent common beer!

Yellow colored beer with a rapidly fading head that actuslly laces the glass.Aroma is pretty much standard for a malt liquor.Taste is watery and sweet but in an unoffensive way.I would actually go to say this might be the best malt liquor I've had.I usually don't drink malt liquors but I saw it at the store and thought I haven't reviewed this one yet,and It actually turned out to be a pleasant surprise. (406 characters)

Reviewing this one to style

Decent head for the style. Color is good but maybe a little light.
Smell is average. Nothing good or bad there.
Taste is pretty good for a malt liquor. Better than many others I've had, but maybe a little weaker on the flavor. Nothing off-putting, which is an improvement
Nothing notable about the mouthfeel.
Drinkability is very good. Overall pretty good for a malt liquor

edit: Drinkability -> Overall

Overall it is above average for a Malt Liquor but not great (548 characters)

Awesome appearance. Three fingers of bone white dense head that lasted 20 minutes leaving dense lacing all the way down. Head is still there and depositing lace.
Smell is a bit funky and I think it is an herbal hop variety that is giving that funky earthy aroma.
Taste is similar to the nose. Dominated by the herbal grassy hop flavor and the malts are there but don't quite balance the hops.
Mouthfeel is light to medium with good carbonation.
Finish is slightly dry and the hop bitterness is long lasting.
Weird date on the bottom of the bottle. It is a Julian date which is a Bud thing I thought. It says 255 14 which would be close to 100 days before the year end of 365.
I hope that is a born on date or I am tasting an aged version of this beer! (752 characters)

A great bottle for a little beer is not so good , under king cobra and mickeys, but i drink at last;

It has that piss color to it and that great sugar taste. like the common of the american malt liquors; not like the german malt liquors, are little more fine than those;

i try with a pipe tobacco smoking, both things last the same time

40oz poured into a Three Philosophers wine-style glass in order to be fashionably ironic. Considered drinking out of the bottle, but thought that would be too meta-ironic. Also, I wanted to rate the head. As if it matters. Stamped AUG2211 on neck. Anyway, lets crack this pig open.

Appearance - A hard pour gave a finger and a half head which looks like it's going to dissolve in the next minute or so. Why am I even rating this? Ultra pale straw body.

Smell - Strong corny sweetness. I'd have trouble telling this apart from a Warsteiner in a blind smell test. Not bad. Well, for the style at least.

Taste - Damn. Even tastes like a Warsteiner. Not bad. Again -- for the style. As a beer, the taste is still pretty base. Corn with slight musk.

Mouthfeel - Slight crispness. Sweet body with a strange finish. It's both dry and sweet at the same time. Sweetness on the lips, and a dry astringency on the tongue.

Overall Drinkability - Meh. There's only one product named Magnum that one should be proud of buying, and this isn't it. (1,038 characters)

Pours a pale amber colour, not too crystal clear, which is good for a malt liquor. Head is also good for a malt liquor. It poured white and healthy and didn't entirely disappear. I think I even see some lace.
Smell is wet grains. Very old-school malt liquory, if that means anything to anybody.
Mouthfeel is light and VERY high carbonation.
Taste is disappointing after the decent appearance and delicious malt liquor smell. That old-school malt liquor taste is there, but it's really quite light. It just tastes like high carbonation and stale grains, mostly. Oh well. I'd say it's an average malt liquor: boring, but not offensive like some of the newer, higher alcohol malt liquors. I won't buy it again when Olde English and Schlitz O.M.L. are easily attainable and far superior. (784 characters)

Pours a light tan with a fair amount of carbonation. Head stays around for most of the glass, then leaves some of the foamy stuff on the side of the glass. Taste is almost bright (clean) hardly any over sweetness or over hoped. Magnum 40 is a good ripping beer, if you want to get ripped and not get ripped off in price, (mine came at $1.23 for the 40oz in a clear glass bottle, and no skunk), this would be the beer.

All in all, I would recommend Miller Magnum 40 to anyone who asked.

Now this is odd, I still have a lump of foam floating in the bottom of my glass (after a few repours) and all the beer is gone! How can this be... I swear to you... this beer has the foamies.

I can’t get the foam to go away... AHaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!

Plop!

Break Break, Crystal Palace, this is Drop Kick, we have a mass of beer foam headed towards Omaha, NE... (866 characters)

Magnum really isn't that bad, because it really doesn't have that much flavor. Smell and taste are fleeting, and the color is about what you would expect out of a beer called Magnum 40. The mouth feel is pretty good and when ice cold very easy to drink. (253 characters)

Poured from a clear 40 oz. bottle. Has a pale yellow color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of malts and corn. Taste is mostly of alcohol, some notes of malts and corn. Feels light in the mouth and overall this is about average as far as malt liquors go. (252 characters)

For the frugally minded, this is definitely the brew for you and I enjoyed it myself...Is the brew to consume when balancing that check book...
OK, enuff of that, colour is a pale golden honey , body is medium and the crown is never ending..aroma is crisp.
Taste is OK, actually, taste is better than OK for that price...evenly balanced leaving a dry feeling.
I would certainly recomend this brew to any college students who have FINISHED writing those finals... (465 characters)

The true budget malt liquor for the budget minded consumer who wants the most bang for his buck but wont settle on Steel Reserve. It is just as a malt liquor should be; cheap, adjunct to hell and with just enough hops to provide a level of bitterness and contrast to the beer that its noticeable but definitely not enough to break the brewers bank. The overall result is a very sweet and enjoyable malt liquor that really finishes clean and has an enjoyable taste but really is nothing special for the price but will definitely quench your thirst and give you the budget buzz you were looking for. Wish I could rate it higher but Country Club XXX and King Cobra had more going on then this malt liquor. Would recommend if you cant afford Old E 800 or if your store doesn't have Genesee at the very least, but not bad for the price and much better then Hurricane or Steel Reserve! (879 characters)

Poured a pale yellow color with a puffy white head that was quickly vanished. Smell is very minimal with only a generic sweetish beer aroma. Taste is also sweet, but very restrained. Finishes refreshing when ice cold, but starts to lose its acceptance as it slowly warms. The 40 ounce bottle is best to share with friends so that it stays cold before being finished. Drinkable. (377 characters)

24 ounce can
Served in a pilsner glass

A - It is straw colored with ample carbonation bubbles rising from the etchings on the bottom of the glass. It is topped with two inches of white head.

S - I notice some floral hops that give it a soapy smell. I also get sweet grains.

T - It tastes a lot like an adjunct lager. I get some sweet grain flavors and a slight bitterness from a small dose of hops.

M - Thin with biting carbonation

O - I'm not going to lie. I drink my fair share of malt liquor after a shitty day at work. I am used to the 8+ percent varieties. This just tastes like an adjunct lager. (606 characters)

Clear yellow hue. Minimal animation. Smallish brilliant white head, bubbly and underdeveloped. Fair retention. The nose is strongly sweet and alcoholic definitely polluted with adjuncts. Not inviting. The palate is surprisingly clean… slightly sweet, kind of creamy… similar to creamed corn. The alcohol is a lot less noticeable in the taste, a major plus. The finish is short and sweet (pun intended). The complexity is minimal but the simplicity works well with this malt liquor. The carbonation is moderate, medium-light mouthfeel – very easy to drink. A solid beverage… for they style, I still doubt I’d drink it again. It’s very cheap. (646 characters)

Pours a clear dark yellow or light gold colored brew.

Smell is slightly sweet and grain, specifically corn scent.

Taste is a little sweet and corny with a bready flavor to back it up. Mild bitterness and alcohol flavors show up. Actual flavor content makes it superior to Bud/Coors/Miller for having an actual taste.

Mouthfeel is present.

This is a drinkable brew; no skunk and presence of an actual flavor make it superior to an average American Macrobrewed beer. (476 characters)

Keep in mind, when I rate Malt Liquor and Macro Lagers, I rate them in relation to other Malt Liquors and other Macro Lagers. We all know these beers suck so....

pours up a yellow straw color with a white bubbly head. surprisingly nice lacing! the nose is slight metallic corn malt, very subtle crisp hop character. the taste is MacNasty with cheese! subtle crisp hops, sweet malts, medium to light bodied, meduim carbon dioxide carbo, sweet to dry finish. Wooh! I haven't had a 40 in a while! Brings me back to the roots...Gotta love it.... (542 characters)

Honestly, I didn't mind this 40 oz. too much, it isn't a good beer, but it could have been a lot worse. Appearance is fairly dark for a malt liquor, not great looking, but usually they appear a little more watery. Smell is adjunct, same as about all other macros. Taste is smooth, with a nice, mildly sweet finish. Never did I taste the alcohol in this one. Overall, this is a fairly drinkable beer, and above average for a macro malt liquor. Not something I'd buy for a craft session, but occaisionally a malt liquor feels right. (530 characters)

Pours very light, but actually has decent head retention-surprise.

Taste is what one would expect from a cheap malt liquor. Yet not all that different from regular lager swill.

Smells kinda pissy-LOL!!, but is a whole lot better than Steele Reserve!

Clear, pale, corn silk yellow with several healthy streams of bubbles exploding off the bottom of the glass. The head is dingy white in color, small to start with and maintains a thick disk for a while thanks to the CO2 factory feeding its underside.

The nose is weak, but what's there smells, believe it or not, like (alcoholic) apple cider. Or rather, like apple cider mixed with equal parts cheap macro lager. The fruitiness sets it apart from its style mates and keeps things interesting. No skunkiness or off aromas that I can detect.

Magnum has more flavor than the nose would suggest. It tastes like sweet grain with a modicum of bitter, floral hops and the slightest hint of apple fruitiness. That sounds better than it actually tastes, but I could drink this stuff if I had to. Like the nose, there are no overt off flavors or other nasty characteristics that one usually finds in beer of this sort.

The flavor finds the perfect point of intensity: low, thankfully. Any less and why bother? (except to get wasted quickly and cheaply). Any more and the cracks in the flavor armor would start to show in a big way. Amazingly, there's no trace of ethanol. The mouthfeel is light without being thin and delivers a semi-prickly carbonation that keeps things lively.

Magnum 40 is a prototypical malt liquor. Venomous reptile or firearm reference? Check. Bad ass bottle/can with a predominantly black color scheme? Check. Lightly sweet and high enough in alcohol to get you reelin' with the feelin' in no time at all? Check mate. I kinda like it though. If you're in the mood or if you're tight on cash, you could do much worse than this. (1,652 characters)

16 oz. tallboy pours a crystal clear golden color with a white foam that snap, crackles and pops down to near nothingness in a matter of seconds.

Nose is of sweet creamed corn and a bit of cardboard. Maybe a few whiffs of grainy malt. Not overly offensive, but not all that appealing either.

Taste is light sweet malts and a mild shot of alcohol. Body is extremely light for a malt liquor. It is pretty clean, without alot of off-putting fruitiness. I actually prefer my malt liquor to pack a bit more whollop than a mere 6%, the alcohol presence is featherweight in this beer. Easy to drink, but not my ML of choice. (619 characters)

A crystal-clear, golden body is capped by a short-lived head of bright white
foam that drops readily to a thin collar without leaving any lace about the
glass. The nose is clean and fruity (berries) with just a hint of sweet
malt. The body is thin and it's gently zesty in the mouth. The flavor
delivers a lightly sweetish malt that hints at maltiness but never delivers;
a clean fruitiness; and some distinct alcohol that's unoffensive but far from being an asset. Its bitterness is quite limited, yet it still finishes dry due to its
alcohol. A poorly designed malt liquor that seems to be simply about
delivering alcohol within a malt-based (read as adjunct-laden!) liquor. Not
even worth trying. (707 characters)

24oz can for .89 cents in Cedar Lake Indiana.

its slightly better in 40oz bottles.

average, run of the mill malt liquor...actually slightly below average but its not horrible when compared to Evil Eye or St. Ides or Stack.

at 89 cents for a 24oz can, i couldnt pass it up for a quick drunk.

i rated it a 2 for taste because it actually has hardly any taste...its not offensive tasting, its just not there....the price point is definitely meant for the economy drinker looking to get messed up..4 cans of this for less than 4 bucks...and considering its watery and almost tasteless...you can shotgun or seriously pound these and at 6.0%...itll get you a buzz if you drink said 4 cans in 30 minutes.
