I've been hearing about Blob's Park for years and finally made the trek up to Jessup to check it out.

Located right off the B/W Parkway.

A: German kitsch at its finest. Huge open room, reminds me of a fraternity type lodge (Elks, Moose, etc) with rows upon rows of tables. At the back is a large stage with the requisite oompah band playing all of the well known German drinking and dancing standards. Older folks dominate the crowd and the dance floor. A large bar area is located immediately to the left when you walk in. Good entertainment value.

Q& S: Nice selection of draft and bottle beers. Drafts were Warstiner Dunkel and O'fest, Spaten Pils and Lager. Plenty of bottles to choose from locals like Clipper City and DFH along with a large selection of imports from the likes of Aecht Schlenkerla, Uerige, Schneider, Franziskaner, Paulaner, etc...

Service: Very slow table service. Place wasn't packed but it took a good 30 min for the 1st round of beers to arrive. I instead went to the bar and was immediately waited on. Skip the table service and head straight to the bar.

Food: Nothing to write home about. Standard German fare with decent brats and good vinegary German Potato Salad and crunchy and tart sauerkraut. Onion rings were soggy and fries limp.

I must say I'm glad I finally made it to Blob's. Neat atmosphere if your into the German thing and cool seeing a bunch of grandparents drinking and dancing and having a good time. Skip the food and go for the music, dancing and beers.

Fact: The first documented Octoberfest in america was at this place as verified by the Smithsonian.

So i was lead to this place via the urban spoon app on my iphone. The place is located a little bit off the main road through some fields. Apparently the facility has changed a bit since january 2009. it has been redone on the inside and the beer selection improved. On tap are 3 german beers and a couple craft brews, spaten pils, warstiner dunkle and a hefe. The bottle selection is full of craft brews, clipper city and DFH, lots of hard to find german beers, 3 tall coolers are on display, even a rouch beer and Schnider Hopwissen. Inside it is like a german dance hall / beer hall. i would say a blend of a large shriners / Elks club with a big dance floor, a decent bar, and a german beer hall. I showed up on a random thursday night and there were dance lessons going on and a group of people drinking and eating at the bar. The food is true german, especially the potato salad (not amaerican style), the red cabbage, and the potato dumpling. I met the owner Max and we talked about the beer slection and so on. He informed me of all the german bands he is bringing in. He talks of big german bands (up to 16 piece) and all the big german performes he has booked. I would show up to this place for a german festival for sure. Show up for the german beer and german music at least. If you like to ballroom dance then thats a bonous. This is a unique place with a lot of character. I believe friday and saturday nights are the best times to go.

Since there are no other reviews...and with a disclaimer that I haven't been to this place for a few years....they used to be open earlier, more often, and didn't charge us admission.

Blob's Park is sort of a local German Social club. Its not easy to find....behind the firehouse east of BW Parkway on MD 175. They have a small (8 or so) but decent selection of good German imports on tap. They also have good, reasonably priced German food. The atmosphere is German dance hall (not club - traditional not techno) meets middle school multi-purpose room. It has been a standard afterwork meeting place for a small group of Marine officers stationed at nearby Ft. Meade for a few years. Usually the dancing got fired up about the time we moved on. Not a must stop, but if you're nearby worth a visit and a more recent review.
