550ml draught
5.9% ABV (as displayed on menu)

I tried this beer on draught on June 8, 2012 at "C'est What" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a solid dark brown colour with a creamy tan coloured head. The aroma was roasted malt, coffee, and dark chocolate. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with mild carbonation. The flavour was chocolate, roast, and coffee and was very smooth. A very enjoyable beer.

On tap at C'est What. Served in pint glass.

A - Dark brown/black in colour with a small amoutn of off white head

S - Dark roasted coffee. A slight sweetness is present but overall the coffee dominates.

T - Dark roasted coffee and slight hazelnut notes. A nice balance between the bitter coffee and the sweet roasted malts.

M - Medium body. Smooth. Silky. Light carbonation.

Pint on nitro at C'Est What. Arrives a dark brown, two fingers of creamy khaki nitro head which last on and on. Love the look of nitro.

Nose is cold coffee, chocolate, a little roast, touch of caramel sweetness - a little on the thin side, probably due to nitro as well.

Very drinkable, flavorful stout. Thinnish but to style, probably more along the lines of English stout or even Irish, coffee dominates, dash of milk, roasted malt, pleasant hop dryness in the finish, light caramel sweetness, creamy feel. Nothing fancy but a nice coffee beer.

Pours a very dark brown, almost black, colour with a thin ring of tan head that doesn't dissipate. Some lacing around the glass. Smells of strong coffee and some roasted malt. Some bitterness in the flavour with a bit of sweetness. Creamy mouthfeel. A very nice coffee porter.

On tap at C'est What. Poured into a pint glass, almost pitch black body, struggling to see a bit of purple/deep red in the edges. Tan head also, with long lasting head and sheets of lacing; just a beautiful beer. Smells of coffee (duh!), some vanilla and the roasted malt aspect is there too. Taste is initially quite creamy, but the coffee and a bit of milk chocolate come through for me. Again, a real creamy and full bodied mouthfeel. Carbonation is low, making this dangerously drinkable and my favourite coffee porter to date. Highly recommended.

Reviewed on 5/8/2010 at C'est What. Imperial pint arrived to me at my barstool, jet black in colour with a nice tan head. Delicious smell like freshly roasted coffee beans. Taste is a nice coffee flavor with some heath bar. The bitterness is interesting as it a coffee-like bitterness rather than a hoppy bitterness. Mouthfeel is not overly thick or overly thin, mostly just right. Kind of sweet in the middle of the taste but definitely tart at the start and finish. Downing the pint leaves foam down the sides of the glass. An easy drinker without a doubt.

Pint at the brewpub. Was psyched to find this place on the site while out of town. Pours black with beige creamy head with lots of nice lacing. Smell is mainly sweet chocolate with coffee coming out more as it warms. Taste is great. Milky roasted espresso with tad alcohol on the back end. Feel is thin and creamy at same time. Very light on carbonation. Going down smoothly. Would have at least 1 more if didn't want to sample some other ones. Very nice compliment to the spicy dish for dinner.

This beer appears black, with red edges, and a cap of creamy beige head, which melts away quickly, sprinkling the edge of the glass with spotty lace. It smells of dark chocolate, cream, and a bit of coffee. The taste is cafe au lait, roasted barley, some oily nuttiness, and mild dry chocolate. The carbonation is soft, the body smooth, medium weight, and a tad chalky, and it finishes off-dry, clean, with a bit of nutty chocolate.

A tasty, entry-level dessert (or hell, breakfast) replacement beer.

An off white bubbly head sitting on a chestnut brown that was hard to see through.
A rich sent of espresso and milk chocolate roasted and perfumed with a little alcohol.
The taste was very on par with the sent. Espresso with a dollop of cream and vanilla. Roasty, a little bready, and just bold coffee flavour just bursting through.
The mouthfeel was thin. Milky, still thin.
I would consider this a great coffee porter.
If the body was a little thicker I would give it a higher rating.
When it warmed the flavors really became very robust.

Half pint at the brewpub- Deep dark brown, almost black letting some light in around the edges. Head is a medium creamy cap that lasts and laces. Nose is of black coffee, dark chocolate, grainy malts, some vanilla. The flavour profile is roasty malts and black coffee and hints at nice bitterness. Dark chocolate and a woody vanilla essence also holds its own. Very creamy and drinkable. Up there in quality with its Mill Street competition. Very tasty.

Pint at C'est What. Lovely looking beer, and very similar in appearance to the classic Guinness look, with a large creamy tan head on top of a dark body. The aroma is of mild coffee, which is present in the flavour in a wonderfully smooth, creamy way. Dangerously easy to drink.

A - Very dark. Opaque with a creamy beige head.

S - Unsurprisingly, a strong coffee aroma

T - A touch of tartness up front. Strong coffee flavours and some roasted bitterness with very little hops. Slighly sweet as well.

M - Very nice mouthfeel - soft, silky and creamy. Somewhat heavy in body.

D - Coffee was expected to carry this beer, and it does, but a bit one-dimensionally I think. I would have preferred something more flavours and balance.

Pours a dark brown/red, some light in the edges, thick tan head forms, great retention, nice lacing. Smell is sweet and malty, some chocolate, coffee, toffee, grains, smells like a porter. Taste is very sweet, some caramel, chocolate notes, coffee in the finish. Mouthfeel is light bodied with low carbonation, creamy and smooth. Not sure if this was a strange batch but there seemed to be a whole lot of residual sugar. Very sweet, kind of threw me off a bit.
