The new Higher Ground is nice. Cinama 5 on Williston Rd has had its insides torn out and replaced with a live music club with a large ballroom and a seperate smaller lounge also with a stage. I give low marks on quality because they serve beer in plastic pints. (not that I blame them.) Service is usually great, especially if you're hip enough to travel to a less busy bar area. Selection is comparable to other bars in the area. Severial VT brews and a normal selection of out of state beer. Always a Magaic Hat seasonal on tap too. The food I've had there was very very good and worth sitting down and enjoying at a table if you can find a seat. Yeah Higher Ground!

I've been here several times to see shows over the years, but I've never reviewed the place, because I've never really saw it as a "beer destination," especially with all the fine establishments that are so close by. But hey, I have been here so I might as well review it. Well, it's a place to see shows. The end. Nice small venue, pretty intimate. As far as "service" goes, there's really nothing to say...I guess the beer and merch staff are fine. Beer selection is nothing to write home about, though they tend to have some local goodies available; nothing you can't get just about anywhere else of course. I've never sampled the food nor really ever looked at, but I'd imagine it's just basic snack food / concert fodder.
If there's a good show here when I'm in the area, sure I'll go catch it.

Came here last night to see the Ed Kowalczyk concert. DIdn't have anything to drink but still perused what they had.
The entrance is quite small and we were lead to the "ballroom". The only thing that really made it that was the chandeliers. The venue itself was small also but cozy. They had a faux dusty industrial ceiling with vents and all. One bar is on the side on the ground level and the other is at the back of the hall. One thing i liked is that the bars were well lit, probably to see the permanent marker (!) marks on people who are less than 21.
The beer was fairly average. Sam Adams, Magic Hat, Long Trail and Harpoon has about 1 tap each with the rest devoted to BMC. Also saw Long Trail bottles.
Not really a beer destination but if you come here for a concert, you at least have an option other than Bud Light.

Been here for a few concerts, it's a good location with two different rooms with bands playing. Tickets are usually reasonable priced. The beer selection is pretty good, lots of your standard BMC beers but they've got Magic Hat, Long Trail and Sierra Nevada on tap all the time so if you're there you won't have to deal with macro lagers.
However, I'd say have a beer before you go rather than buy here because like all concerts it's way over priced. You get your beer in 12oz plastic cups and you'll probably pay around $5 for that. If I get there early I may have one beer before the show, but it's just not worth it to me.

Stopped in for a show at the new Higher Ground in South Burlington this past Saturday night. This was my first time back since the closing of the original establishment in Winooski. To be honest I didn't go for the beer, but happened to have some while I was there. This place has a pretty large stage for the musical act with a capacity probably in the 200-300 range. I didnt' see any seating, but it may have been removed for the show. The bar was stocked adequately with the usual VT micros: Long Trail, Magic Hat, Harpoon, etc., and also had some of the expected bottles: Sierra Nevada, etc. The service was fine as long as you could get the bartender's attention, which isn't the easiest thing to do with about thirty thirsty people eagerly waiting their turn. A decent venue for a show, but only an average place regarding beer.
