Looks like it's been quite awhile since the last review, hmm...

Unfortunately we had the pleasure of visiting Sadhana during Mifflin. Right inside the door was the checkout counter, with stacks of Four Loko cases stacked up to waist height. It was oppressively warm inside, cramped and dingy, the air was rank with b.o., as another customer loudly complained that she couldn't breathe in there. So that was strange right away.

Located in an area where college kids seem to be the main clientele, and the selection is matched accordingly. Cheap vodka, Four Loko, macros, 40's, etc. There were 4 or so doors of craft sixers and a few bombers like Lakefront Fixed Gear and IBA. Full Bells lineup, some Tyranena, Capital, Ale Asylum, Lake Louie, usual locals. Nothing too exotic for imports, Franziskaner, Chimay, etc. I'd only shop here if I lived down the street and was already walking by.

Honestly I didn't want to stay and browse here very long. Not really recommended as Riley's is right nearby, and there was nothing out of the ordinary to be found here... There was a parking lot behind the store, but the only signs I saw said "permit only" nothing mentioning the store, so that was also a bit sketchy.

This is a nice little store in Madison's downtown/university area. Parking's a bit of a hassle, but you should be able to find a spot within a couple blocks. The selection includes a wide variety of sixers, and a pretty good variety of singles. Most beer is refrigerated. The local and regional selection is quite nice: a variety of New Glarus, Capital, Lake Louie, Bells, Founders, and more. Founders is particularly well represented. I think I saw Dirty Bastard, IPA, Pale Ale, and the rarely seen (for me) Imperial Stout. The singles selection includes some quality imports. I picked up a single of Celebrator and a sixer of Sierra Nevada IPA (first time I've ever seen this brew) and went on my way.

The Sadhana Wine Shop has the best price on Founders Breakfast Stout in Madison. Good selection of North Coast, Founders, and New Glarus. The only spot in town where I can find Celbrator Doppelbock right now. Sam Adams Imp. Pils was also available at a good price. Some Lake Louie, SN, New Holland, etc… available. The really friendly owners told me that they just opened a shop on the far east side. I’ll have to check it out soon. I was very pleased with the little shop on Bassett. Very competitive prices!!!

For those students on a budget who crave all the Milwaukee's Best Light their livers can handle, this is not for you. But for those who live in the Bassett/Broom region and enjoy excellent beer, this is a precious resource. Prices are fair, with good selection for such a small store; several imports that are uncommon-though-not-rare (Spaten) and an excellent stock of favored microbrews (Lake Louie, Sierra Nevada, Bell's, etc.). The quality to shelf space ratio is simply off the charts. Sadhana's has better selection than any other store on campus!

5 minute walk from my apartment, very quaint setting on the west side of the isthmus

selection: i was impressed. i had been dying to try some founders breakfast stout (couldnt find anywhere in Indiana despite the high presence of other founders beers) and they had this in 4 packs. They had most other founders beers, the bell's standards(pale, kalamazoo, amber, dopplebock, and maybe a few others). Bombers included two brothers hop juice, three floyds gumballhead, some great divides, avery, and a couple rogues. Some of the high end goose island beers were also available. As with most stores the complete line of capital, new glarus(and unplugged), tyranena were present, along with some lake louie growlers

service: didnt seek out service but who needs service at a beer store anyway

quality: definately a little dive shop that I will be returning to

---
edit: yeah this place is a fucking gem...its small, theres no on-site parking, its a dive, its buried...but its wonderful

its one of those places that just makes you wonder...judging by the employees, there is no reason to assume this would be such an asset but dont be fooled....they get everything first, and they get it cheaper....6 packs of batch 7000, SN celebration, lake louie reserve, etc etc

the cooler space is so small but they really dont waste time with crap...still the only place ive seen with consistent breakfast stout

A nice place for me, very close to my house. While this place may be more focused on offering quality wines, they don't skimp on their beer offerings. Most of the usual WI beers can be found here, along with Lake Louie. They try an keep up on the seasonal and limited offerings from local and regional brews. New Holland HG beers can be found as well as most everything else you'd really want to find.

Singles cooler consists of a single door, stand-alone cooler, but don't let it fool you. The first time I looked, I was more than surprised. Great Divide bombers, Yeti and Hercules. Couldn't have been happier.

Yes, it is a very small location with extremely limited cooler space, but they offer a good selection.

I believe the owner is a former employee of Steve's who went on to from his own buisness; good for him. I have no problems visting every now and then, just to see if they're offering anything that I'm not seeing from my usual digs, which they usually do.
