Poured from a green bottle, this beer had no head after about a minute and not much carbonation throughout. The color was a bright light gold. An initial sweetness, with a bit of straw flavor that passed quickly , leaving behind a bit of a bite and some mild hoppy length. A decent lawnmower beer, easy to drink, but cheap for sure and already deteriorating in the green bottle.

500ml can. I'm guessing 'Gull' means something different in Icelandic than it does in English.

This beer pours clear, pale golden yellow colour, with three fingers of puffy, tightly foamy, and faintly bubbly white head, which leaves a random array of foreboding storm cloud lace around the glass as things slip away.

It smells of grainy, cereal-heavy malt - barley and corn in equal measure - some overripe lemon juice, a touch of stewed veggies, wet cardboard, and earthy, weedy hops. The taste is more raw cereal - corn, barley, and wheat grains - a slight soapy minerality, and subdued weedy, grassy hops.

The carbonation is airy and rather frothy, but hardly assertive, the body medium-light in weight, and a bit clammy in its workaday smoothness. It finishes off-dry, that blanched cereal and wet cardboard combo starting to grow new legs.

A so-so pale Euro lager - enough edgy (good and bad) hop characteristics to keep it dead center in the range. The prominent cereal malt does a good job in elevating this above the dreck, but tends to get a bit old by way of the one-trick pony bit. Anyways, worthy of a try, but sort of middling if you're looking for a world beater for the style.

16 oz can courtesy of fthomasl pours a clear gold color with a small, fizzy white head. Not much retention or lace. Looks like best by July 1, 2013.

Nose is mostly grainy with a light grassy hop. Falls into the Euro Lager category well.

Taste is refreshing enough and there is a grassy hop presence, but it tastes more like sparkling mineral water than beer. My can I think is saying it is 2.25% ABV, but my Icelandic is a little rusty. Probably the lightest beer I've ever had...I could drink it by the gallon, unfortunately that might not even give a buzz.

There really isn't much to say about this beer. Its bright golden with a fizzy head. All I tasted was a slightly "off" corn flavor and maybe a hint of something grassy. Its a step above American macro lagers at least. Wet and thirst quenching enough I guess.

Gull is the working man's beer in Iceland. It's simple and fairly clean. Sort of think of an Icelandic Busch beer. Not too much going on with it, but it's thirst quenching and does the trick! Hey, when you're sitting in a hot tub looking at the gorgeous Icelandic scenery you don't need too much out of you beer to have a good time!

A: Pours a clear pale yellow with two fingers of fluffy bright white head. Settles to a ring around the glass with a little island of foam in the center. Left a decent amount of lacing, more then most beers in this style.

S: Very sweet grains with maybe a little vegetables.

T: Sweet grains are the main taste. There isn’t much else. The taste isn’t very strong but for what taste it does have I find it to be right amount.

M: Light carbonation with a light body.

O: I thought I’d try this beer since I’m half Icelandic even though it didn’t exactly have favorable reviews. It’s a really simple beer. But in this case I would say less is more. I enjoyed drinking it. It was very easy to drink. I don’t think I’d buy this on a regular basis but I can definitely see myself drinking this again.

Gotta say I really dig this can with its gold and white look. Makes me think of a Schlitz or Lowenbrow but from the '50s!

A: Nothing to write home about. Decent straw yellow like any lite beer. Mild lacing.

S: Has a soapy characteristic with a bit of grain smell. The rear is more boozy/astringent.

T: Ive had worse. It has nice aftertaste as compared to many euro pale's. Not hoppy, but smooth.

M: Not overly carbonated like most lite's and for that it gets more credit where its due. However its a flat short experience.

D: Drinkable in that its lite and almost mowing season.

Purchased at the MLCC and poured into a beer mug. Pours exactly what you would expect. Clear & pale yellow with a fizzy white head of ~1 cm that receded very quickly and leaves little to no lacing. Aromas are corn and vegetal. Initially I was going to score the taste higher as it is unobtrusive, but it has little distinguishing character. There is a bit of corn perhaps with a residual sweetness. Carbonation could be a touch higher, although is fine where it is. A light bitterness sticks in the back of the mouth making this a tougher beer to drink. Decent for a macro-style lager, but reminds me why I don't spend my hard earned money on beer like this regularly.

Can: Poured a golden color lager with a medium foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of light adjunct notes with minimal hops presence. Taste is also heavy on adjunct with probably some rice to smooth things out with a light dry finish. Body is average as well as carbonation. Boring and bland as so many other pale lager.

A: Pale yellow, bubbly. Small head which quickly dissipates.

S: Little to none. Mild sweetness which might be malt?

T: Ugh. Um...Sort of sour/bitter/watery all at once. Not good. Middle taste is sort of sweet -- in a bad way -- and aftertaste is poor.

M: Not much to note. Carbonation and sweetness.

D: It's palatable, but not enjoyable. Not recommended.

Beer from my wife's trip to Iceland.

This is like Iceland's answer to Budweiser. Not bad though really. Poured into a pilsner glass (all I had) from a can. Half inch head hung around for 5 minutes.

Looks like an American lager--pale yellow, and thin. Almost no smell, but what there was wasn't unpleasant, it was just eh.

Tasted pretty good. No harshness, but no real flavor. It had a bit of a soapy quality, but not taste--more of a mouthfeel thing.

Because the flavor is so mild and easy, I could see drinking this a lot. It's not a good beer, but it seems like an ideal beer to drink for a night of inebriation.

Nice gold color with a decent creamy head that looked very inviting. Mild hop and malt taste upfront thhat was slightly overpowered by the carbonation from the can. Mouthfeel was dominated by a nice grainy malt that was not offensive but lacked any real distinct character. Finished with a grainy, slightly sweet taste that was not too overpowering, much like a typical macro. I chose this as my first Icelandic beer because it was available at the airport duty free shop for much less than in the state liquor stores. Also, the lack of additives such as sugars like some of the other Icelandic brands made it more attractive. Icelandic barley was used in the process for added appeal.

I had to take the unusual approach of giving this beer all 3's because it had absolutely no character to it whatsoever. Not even the awful college beers in the US can match the lack of anything in this beer. But at at the same time it wasn't by any means bad, because there was simply nothing to offer. I figured I'd give it a shot when flying with Icelandair. It's quite carbonated, but not as much as Viking. The head quickly fades, but there is a decent golden color about it. The can claims that it is made from Icelandic barley, which is what might give it a little sweetness, but this beer is about as bland as bland can get. Strange, but I guess also unique?
