I tried this one in mexico city, it was introduced to me by my friend bastien who owns a world beer parlor in colonia roma called "La Belga" (the belgium), i was surprised by this one, specially because honey beer isn´t one of my favorite styles, i had only tried one from J.W. Dundee´s variety pack that i got a hold off from HEB and i really wasn´t impressed at all, but cucapa´s honey beer had a lot of character in it, i think, it actually seemed more like an american pale ale to me, but only a little bit sweeter, but o.k. overall, very descent mexican brew, i´ll try it again! and looking forward to try their other styles...

Cucapa Honey

Has weird suspended sediment amidst a deep honey amber color. Head is thin, coarse, and small.

Thinner malts represented. Some nectary honey and light toastiness. Light hops in the nose with a slight pine character.

Waxy honeycomb, citrus, stone fruit, thin old malts, and mild bitterness. Might not be that fresh. Mexican beer is still searching for greatness. Rather typical low-tier ale feel. Needs conditioning. Carbonation is a plus, however. Nothing to go back to.

22 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly cloudy orange amber color with a 1 finger dense cream colored head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of caramel, honey, apple, pear, toast, toffee, bread, floral, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Ok aromas with solid balance of malt and fruity notes; with decent strength. Taste of caramel, honey, bread, toast, toffee, floral, grass, apple, pear, light pepper, and toasted earthiness. No bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, honey, bread, toast, toffee, floral, apple, pear, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Nice and pleasant balance of malt and fruity flavors; with solid robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and body; with a lightly creamy and smooth mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming noticed after the finish, as expected of 4.5%. Overall this is a very solid session amber ale. Solid robustness and balance of malt, hop, and fruity flavors; and very smooth to drink. An enjoyable offering.

A - Poured out a clear, golden amber color with a one-finger head of bubbly white foam. It left some residual sudsy trails.

S - It smelled of honey and caramel with a floral touch.

T - It tasted of sweet caramel and honey with a slight bitter bite.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A light bodied ale with a dry finish.

O - This a nice blonde ale. Good honey flavor.

A Mexican microbrew? Chido! And imported by a hometown distro (Kalamazoo Michigan what!) so I had no excuse not to try it. Unfortunately, this one left me feeling like it was more of a major bleah.

(This review is for their honey amber. The bottle I have is different than that pictured, which isn’t unusual, but from what I can tell it should be the same beer.)

This honey amber ale pours a caramel-gold color with very thin foam. There’s a musty yeasty/estery aroma with the slightest hint of clover honey. Tastes like a very lousy amber—bland, flat, almost nonexistent flavors followed by a lousy, nearly skunky, horrible finish. Pass.
