Last beer of the weekend at Beer Revolution in Calgary, bringing up the tail end from least to most hop-forward based on style guidelines (see previous four reviews for a look at the entire journey). Arrived a classic American IPA color, honey orange amber with a decent amount of whitish head. Aroma was textbook IPA by numbers, mixed citrus fruits, caramel malt, a whiff of pine or menthol, a little dank pineapple. Taste was pleasing and hits all the proper notes ... Orange, lemon, and grapefruit, a honey sweetness, light caramel, mellow toast, wildflowers, tropical ichor of some sort, melon and black currant. Semi-chewy and subdued carbonation with a woody bitter finish of pine boughs, citrus pith, and green tea. All the expected elements are present and the whole packaged is well-integrated, almost pedestrian in its lack of obvious highs or lows. My buddy had this before I did and responded with "its an IPA" when I asked how it was. Clearly Cucapa are competent technical brewers who can concoct proficient beers. The next step might be to wing it a bit more and incorporate some unique elements. This beer is a bit like a 1950s suburban housewife (sorry about this one), she'll take care of all your needs but things may get a bit ... Dull.

Pours a cloudy orangeish color. Some visible sediment. Decent head. Smell is delicious. Taste and mouthfeel are both good, a lot of citrus flavors for an IPA. Not a bad IPA, balanced and not overly hoppy. It's a little pricey at 5.99 a pint but a decent brew.

BB date Aug 2014. 330ml bottle poured into a glass.

A - Pours a huge off-white foamy head, near fills up the whole glass. Amber, sparkling with some medium sized particles floating about

S - Not so strong as other APAs. Mainly fruits (orange), honey and some pine/floral aroma,

T - Sweet malts and a slight citrus flavour up front and in middle, interspersed with a burnt grassy bitterness, and an almost sour metallic finish.

M - high carbonation, medium body, oily texture, alcohol content is mildly noticeable

O - Not too bad- interesting mix of sweet and bitterness, but a bit rough overall to be thoroughly enjoyable. Maybe I should have left the sediment out.

This Mexican take on the American style IPA is truly unique and will exceed your expectations as long as you don't set them too high. Picked it up on closeout for $5.99 - for some reason the slogan "The best rated Mexican craft beer" didn't make it fly off the shelf to the same effect as the world's most interesting man. Nonetheless the promise of a citric bomb after closer examination was enough for me to give it a try.

Pours a golden amber honey with a murky, heavy sediment that comes to a complete rest evenly throughout the beer. Clearly unfiltered but I would be disappointed if it was, I can only hope this Mexican sedi contains coca extract and isn't just the clarity of the water.

Aroma is sweet, fruity and hop forward with a distinct character I still can't wrap my nose around.(Still secretly hoping it's cocaine)

Taste is also truly unique and although the hops jump forward with orange, grapefruit, and thick lime. The malts contrast the bitterness with strong caramel/toffee with a hint of honey. Of course the hops still steal the show with a piney bitter finish along with more lime and pineapple tartness I believe is coming from the yeast sediment.

Overall impressive in that fact that it is genuinely unique and no rip-off recipe. A fitting name because I would only recommend it to the daring - this is not your Mother's beer. This brew inspired me to give name to a new class of unfiltered beer, this "Heavy Sedi Ale" is one of a kind but not as refreshing as I hoped.

Great pairing with spicy, authentic Mexican dishes.

Overall this is a nice Mexican IPA that is very balanced. It has a nice hop flavor profile, and is extremely easy to drink. Pours hazy golden orange color with a fairly dense off white head and good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some decent lacing on the glass. Aromas and tastes of citrus, herbal, grass, pine, lime, caramel, and a slight earthy spiciness. Good amount of hop bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes. Nice balance of bitterness and sweetness; with a great hop flavor profile. Very good beer.

Pours a hazed honey hue with a sudsy two finger head and a rim of lacing, the smell is light pineapple,a touch of citrus and some candy nothing over the top but quite refreshing, the feel is medium bodied and well carbonated with tastes of mangoes, candy,a touch of sherbet and finished with a light citrus bitterness and overall it's quite approachable for its high ABV and a surprise from its place of origin and yeah nothing to excited about but I'd drink it again.

Pours a murky orange with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small patches of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Chunks of sediment are seen floating around in the glass after the pour. Smell is of malt, honey, slight citrus zest, and wet dog aromas. Taste is much the same with malt, citrus zest, and intense earthy and herbal hop flavors on the finish. There is a high amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a below average beer that has some off aromas and an intense, unbalanced hop bitterness that makes it hard to drink.

Poured from a 650ml bottle. Pours a very hazy orangish colour. This is obviously an unfiltered beer. The nose offers up some fairly generic citrus and brown sugar notes, which don't prepare you at all for the hop bomb this beer is. It offers up flavours of orange and pineapple and ends with a massive hop finish. This must be close to 100 IBUs as it is just packed with hops, though not in an unbalanced way, as there is a good solid malt base. The carbonation could be a little more robust, but this is a good brew for serious hopheads.
