Notes/Commercial Description:
Hoptimistic IPA (India Pale Ale) has intense hop bitterness and flavor. This ale is further characterized by fruity, floral and citrus-like aromas due to American-variety hops. This copper/orange hued ale has a nicely balanced medium maltiness which contributes to a medium body that goes down easy, leaving a lingering bitterness that is hard to resist.

Pours orange with a thin yellowed head.

Aroma is nice. Citrus and pine basically.

The taste is ok. Citrus and pine again, a little soapy too. Has a familiar taste that I only find in beers from the Midwest. I've never been able to figure out what that is though.

Mouthfeel is pushing full bodied and moderate carbonation is present.

Drinkability is moderate. Flavor is ok and nothing stands out about the beer. I could take it or leave it.

Received as an extra in a trade and poured into my Duvel tulip.

A - The bottle was not a gusher, however, upon hitting the glass it just BILLOWED and gushed over the glass. Sigh. What remains is a slightly hazy orange hue with a one finger foamy head that leaves loads of sticky lacing. Would be much better if not for the initial rush of head.

S - Aromas of light floral hops, faint malt, light citrus. All relatively generic, though, appealing.

T - Taste is similar to the nose. The hops are more floral than anything and there is a faint medicinal quality to the lingering bitter finish. the malts are subdued but the hops all play off as a hodgepodge of generic taste. While tasty there is nothing that just pops.

M - Carbonation is good, a bit on the sharper side, but feels a bit watery.

O - Overall, this is an okay IPA. Nothing too special.
