Notes/Commercial Description:
American amber ale, with a rich red hue. Made with American variety hops used to produce a medium-high hop bitterness, flavor, and aroma. The hops help to balance the malty caramel character. With a medium-full body, this ale has subtle fruity aromas and flavors sure to please any beer lovers palate!

Pours out to a thin but permanent head and moderate lacing. Color is a murky dark amber. Aroma is of dark specialty malts, roasted nuts (pecans? reminds me of those pecan ales brewed down south) and slightly salty and smoky (very faint phenolic). Flavor is very much malt forward and transports my mind back to the 1990's when the Amber Ale was the dominant style in what was called simply microbrewing back then. Any way, it is roasty, on the dry side of the style and has a very subtle hop bitterness to balance out the residual sweetness. Mouthfeel is rough and jagged that reminds me of the slight astringency of Southern Pecan Ale but more intense. Regardless, I like this respite from hop-mania that has complexity, depth of flavor and just makes me feel good, remembering the good times when I was younger.

Nice dark amber color and semi-transparent. Rich head on the pour which lasts a while and provides some lacing.

Heavy maple wood smoke in the aroma with just a hint of tart cherries.

Smokey flavors dominate throughout. Hint of herbal hop bitterness.

Light to medium body. Bit on the dry side. Solid carbonation.

Not terrible but there are definitely better amber ales out there.

Bought a 1Pint 6Fl.oz. bottle of this from Shop 'n Save in Ballwin, MO for $3.98. Poured from the Green/Brown labeled bottle with a car, bike, windmill, and other items being taken up by a tornado into my 16oz Grand Teton Brewing Co Pint Glass. Has no freshness date to be found on the bottle.

Aroma- The aroma is made up of malt, sweetness, and the light caramel character. All very nice and well balanced. Light hop character in the finish.

Appearance- Pours a 1.5 finger, frothy head that has good retention. Has an amber colored body with good clarity. Leaves tons of suds behind.

Flavor- Tons of malt from the beginning and then has the nice caramel flavor that I observed in the aroma. Light hops come into play in the middle of the drink but too much malt to balance them out. Finishes with a light-medium bitterness level.

Mouthfeel- Medium Bodied, Medium-High Carbonation, Smooth, and leaves tons of sweetness on the palate.

Overall Impression- Another nice one from Charleville! For an Amber/Red ale, wish there was more hops introduced and more character. Easy going and would definitely go back to again!
