Enjoyed at the Armsby Abby and poured into a tulip.

A - Poured a light straw hue with a fluffy white two finger head that leaves a nice sticky dude lacing and wonderful retention. Excellent.

S - Aromas of gentle funky saison, light barnyard notes, wonderful gin barrel super floral notes that only a botanical gin can lend. Nice pinot notes that lends a fruity perspective.

T - Taste is lightly funky with gentle saison notes, the barrel notes are pleasant with sweet pinot noir grapes then wham gin barrel! Floral, fragrant botanicals, just delicious.

M - Mouthfeel is very light considering the barrels.

O - Overall I was happily impressed by this beer. Love the gin barrel and what it bruins to the table.

Type: 22oz. Bomber -Counter Pressure Filled @ Bierkraft
Vintage: 2013
Glass: Southampton Tulip

Was going to put this 22oz. expensive counter pressure filled bomber from Bierkraft up for trade, as it is not my style of choice, sure glad I did not.

Pours a golden straw in color w/ a 1 finger white head that left nice sticky lingering lacing. Aromas of fresh cut hay, citrus fruits, ginger-ale, dark fruit, and breadiness. The flavor was of breadiness and tart citrus fruits up front, leading into ginger-ale, and finishing w/ red wine dark fruit dryness. Clean and crisp w/ lingering flavor. I almost polished off the entire bomber before I was even done writing the review if that tells you a bit about the drink ability.

Overall, awesome stuff! I am not even a saison guy and I would love to drink this one again. The barrel treatments were perfect and you could taste a clear separation between the gin barrel characteristics and the Pinot Noir ones.

Draft to Branded glass

App- A bit of liquid gold in the glass with a fairly see through yellow color. A small 1/4-1/2 inch head with some amazing cling down the glass. Just a great looking beer. Only knock is the missing Saison haze.

Smell- When this arrived I was very excited about the aging. It had huge Gin notes. I can't really say what makes a gin nose, but if you've smelled gin you know. Trace tannic notes with a good wheat base and a touch of citrus.

Taste- I love a good saison. This was great. Strong barrel notes and then a great base flavor come out. Take the greatness of Fantome and add the treatment to it. Earth and damp with a small grainular citrus note.

Mouth- On each recurring sip it gets a bit more dry but the gin booze and wine tannic make each sip good. Not great. A small light/medium body with a medium carbonation. Residual gin and oak.

Drink- I loved this beer! It was layered and creative and blended so well. Great depth of flavor with a tempered hand. Would love a few bottles. One can dream.

Growler into a Duvel tulip. Big thanks to Dan for sharing this crazy rarity.

A: Clear gold body, fine white head. Nice lace. Good.

S: Spicy, fruity, and vinous. Very fresh, piquant, and aromatic.

T: Follows the nose - spiciness, peppery fruity, and some smooth malt sweetness on the predominantly dry, slightly fruity, almost funky finish. Tasty, but I expected more from the barrels.

M: Light-bodied and lively. Creamy and great.

O: This was a great Saison, but based on the crazy description (Gin and Pinot Noir barrels?) I really expected a more distinctive beer.

Cheers!

Served on draft at Churchkey DC, beer served in a snifter. Beer is amber / copper with a mild haze to it, thin wispy shadow of a white head that breaks quickly, moderate to low carbonation, no lacing.

Aroma is complex, oaky, gin, leaves, almost eucalyptus, tea like bitterness, tannic, nice.

Beer is thin and nice, complex on the palate, almost boozy with wine, tannic and mild sour / bitterness on the finish, decent saison I'd have it again.

On tap at Churchkey. Served in a snifter.

Slightly hazy straw with a bit white head and loads of sticky ringy lacing. Nose starts with gin, juniper, and a bit of slice. Earthy with red wine notes. Beautiful complexity and subtlety all at once. Some light cherry-ish notes. Flavor falls off a bit from the nose. There's a bit of oak tannin dryness. Gin and spice are there. Wine in the back. Light-medium body with a dry finish. A very enjoyable and complex brew, yet quite drinkable. Bigtime fan.

Growler from Bierkraft, filled nine days ago. The cap was hissing a little when I brought it home, so I taped it - think it did lose a little carbonation.

Pours a clear yellow with green tints. Low head, little lacing. The smell is clean minerals, lemon zest, some funk, something a little sweet at the end. The taste is huge and complex: something like meyer lemon to start, passing into a very round, sweet, grape-like character, with an intensely drying juniper quality at the finish - all of this while remaining subtle, with the obvious qualities of the two barrels being not at all obtrusive. It's moderately carbonated (maybe a little low - see above), with a medium body. I've never had a beer quite like this - for what I think the Zymatore folks intended, it's perfect. Kudos to them for taking a great beer and adding another dimension.

Listed at 7.5% ABV*

A – It poured a hazy pale warm yellow with a small white head. There was a nice amount of lacing that stuck to the edge of the glass.

S – A little faint funk, not very strong for a saison; however, this is a very different from every other saison I have ever had.

T – Wow, this is different! It’s reminiscent of a nice geuze with a bit of the gin barrel coming through. It warms nicely from spice and alcohol in the finish.

M – It has a less than medium body, and slightly dry with a nice amount of carbonation.

O – Very refreshing! This is my first gin-barrel-aged beer, and it was far better than I thought it would be. A nice concept saison that I highly recommend for people who not only enjoy saisons, but also for fans of geuze.

On-tap at Mugs Alehouse, Brooklyn, NY

A: The beer is hazy golden yellowish orange in color. It poured with a thin white head that died down but never completely faded away, leaving a patch of bubbles floating on the surface and a ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: There are faint aromas of wine barrels in the nose.
T: Flavors of juniper berries from the gin barrel aging are prominently featured in the taste. Peppery spices are evident in the finish.
M: It feels on the light side of medium-bodied on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation. There is a slight amount of dryness in the finish.
O: The aging in gin and Pinot Noir barrels definitely lends interesting characteristics and makes this an interesting and unique beer to drink.
