On-tap at Max's for the Belgian Beer Fest.
Overall this beer is phenomenal because it has so much going on. Clear brown pour with some orange in it. A small amount of white head graces the top of the liquid. The aroma is sour, funky with certainly some hints of the barrel treatment. Oak and vanilla mostly. The taste is great. Yeasts, candied sugar, funk, sour, some wine like characteristics from the barrel, and a nice sweetness overall. The mouthfeel is light with a nice amount of carbonation and insanely drinkable. I loved this. Homerun from the beerfest!

On tap at Max's during their annual Belgian fest. The beer menu lists this as a barrel aged tradition ale, which makes no sense, and I'm not even sure what that means. I'm assuming this is just the regular Angelique aged in special barrels, so I've put it down as dubbel (though admittedly it's like no other dubbel I've ever tasted).
The beer pours a brownish copper amber color with fair head retention and light lacing. On the nose I pick up considerable wine, along with some light sour. Hmmmm.... The pinot noir aroma is actually pretty pronounced in this one. On the palate, the beer is fairly sour, but it blends well with the considerable pinot noir flavor I get as well. The wine flavor really dominates the flavor profile in this beer (I really don't get much sense of the whiskey flavor), and helps to tame the sour quite nicely. As a result, there's something a of a sweet tart flavor to this beer, though the sour tends to dominate in that impression. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, with along, sour and wine infused finish. The tart flavor adds something of a "zippiness" to the finish that's kind of nice as well. Very interesting stuff...
