Good place for both Bourbon and beer, among other alcoholic needful things. Very good broad selection and prices are fairly low across the board. I don't always find rare releases here but the standard offerings are quite good. Some interesting bourbon choices here too that I don't see at some of the mom and pop stores. Love Liquor Barn.

Last visit - Feb 6, 2014.

This is one of the finest stores you will ever go to. The place is the size of a pretty good supermarket and is always well organized and clean. They have a huge selection of craft beer on tap and will sell you a 64 oz. growler or even a 32 oz. "howler'. As far as packaged beer they have everything from a wide selection of crafts to every AAL and everything in between. They have a huge selection of crafts that they sell by the bottle (10% discount if you buy 12). Their walk in cooler is the size of most C-Stores. Prices are well within acceptable range.

Although not completely related, their selection of bourbon and just about every other spirit is unrivaled in the Louisville KY area. They also have a huge section devoted to party supplies. This really is a one stop shopping place for a party.

This place is worth going a little out of the way to get to.

The Springhurst store is the largest of its kind in Louisville and probably the state. The growler wall is fantastic and having a brew at the bar discussing the merits of the concoction with the Knowledgeble staff makes the experience all the better. Special tapping nights and food trucks outside only make it better. If you need a hard to find beer in Ky or one of the great Bourbons, then you have found the place

This store is the reason I started seeking out craft beer. The store is roughly the size of a medium sized supermarket, and had a whole supermarket isle dedicated to a nice selection of craft beer. Each type of liquor has a supermarket sized isle dedicated to it, so the selection for any type of alcohol is definitely better than average. Other than that it has a humidor, frozen party food selection and fireworks. I have not found another store with the selection and variety this store has. Will definitely stop next time I am in Kentucky.

GROWLER HEAVEN!!! Wow, this is the mecca for filling a growler with great craft beer. I'm not talking about normal shit either, they have some semi-rare and solid rotating craft beer from everywhere + locals. The price is a little high, but where else are you going to get a growler of BCBS, Heine Bros Imperial Coffee Stout, 90 Min, BCS, New Albanian, BBC, lots of DIPA's, Porters, etc..

No one in the area can compete with the taps they offer.

The bottle selection is money too. They usually have all the hard to find beers on the shelf after they are gone at other stores.

I live in Naptown, but love coming back home to grab a few good growlers to take back.

I have always enjoyed this place. They offer wide selection of beers on tap to-go called "Growler Heaven". They have always had an above average selection of regional brews such as Three Floyd's, Founder's, Bell's and Southern Tier. But know, this place has moved up the scale for me recently. I managed to score a bottle of Founder's CBS and DFH 120 Minute. This place was definitely above average, but now they are amazing in my opinion. Not too many places in Louisville had CBS. Cheers to Drew, the beer guru at Liquor Barn!

A - 4.5 The Liquor Barn is a fun place to shop for me because it makes me feel like a kid in a candy store. The people are mostly friendly and it is usually busy because it is one of the most comprehensive stores in town.

Q - 5 Everything here is kept clean and organized. The products are definitely top-notch.

Ser - 4 Usually the staff has been friendly but they aren't always the most experienced or knowledgeable. Generally helpful nonetheless.

Sel - 5 I don't know that I've been to a better store all-around as far as total selection. The growler station has at least 30-40 taps and generally a great mix of locals, imports, and micro brews. There are a great supply of bottles as well, not to mention wine and liquor being just as competitive.

F - 4.5 There's a nice selection of good food here also, all of which I've had is of very good quality.

V - $$ Given the selection and availability of most products this store has a good value. It is very fair in price. The growlers are borderline inexpensive depending on what you want. Most bottled offerings are about what to expect for a store of this size. I wish they had more sales, however, but it won't keep me from going back when in town.

I live about 2 hrs. from this store and I have made the trip twice now I can tell you that I can see myself making a run over there about once a month.

The service is second to none. Very friendly people and very willing to help us out. Both times we've gone were because we've called ahead to see if they had something in stock and both times they were willing to set back what we were going after so we would be assured that it would be there when we got there.

Variety of selection is outstanding in the craft brew department. I've seen several cases of mainstream items so one can get more than a 4-pack if they want. They have an excellent assortment of micro-brews as well as imports. Not many west coast selections but then again who does (outside of the major micro breweries).

Growler Heaven is just that, HEAVEN!! Utterly amazing. Probably 25-40 different offerings at any given time. Both major labels like Bells, Avery, Dogfish Head, Flying Dog, Founders, and local offerings like BBC, New Albanian, Upland, and Sheltowee. It's great to see them giving good store space to local companies.

They are only slightly on the pricey side but they are in a major market therefore they can afford to be. All in all they are a fair value priced store. They make up for it with their service and dedication to customer satisfaction.

All I can say is ... wow! Upon walking in there is a collection of 20 or so taps that feature everything from bells to FFF to a collection of locals. You can taste a 2 oz sample for .50 to 1.50 depending on the beer or get a 6 oz pour for a couple bucks or just get a growler to go. With California's laws this kind of thing would be impossible. This station coupled with the selection and the fact that you can split 6 packs makes this one of the best big block type beer stores I have ever been too. Although it might be a little large and corporate for some I would consider it a great stop if you are looking for craft brew in louisville.

Having visited pretty much every Liquor Barn in Louisville and Lexington I can say that this one is by far the best on a day-to-day basis. Always plentiful stock of domestics and imports and the first Liquor Barn to receive any special releases. Plus, they don't do any silly limits or hide the beer anywhere. It's first come, first serve. Walked in the other night and saw 8 bottles of Goose Island Rare Bourbon County Brand Stout on the shelf. Bought three of them and no one raised an eyebrow.

If you're interested in sampling beers they have a great collection of taps/growler fills and a nice wall of singles. This is not the most convenient Liquor Barn from my house, but I still make the drive out here regularly just because of the quality of this location.

I came to visit a friend in Louisville, and made him aware we were in fact coming here. Knowing he had no choice, we drove the 20 miles from his place. I read the reviews online before I even left, and they were pretty well spot on. They had an amazing selection. Even better then the selection were the prices. They were across the board 2-3 dollars cheaper on everything. I saw Apt 12 for 9.99 there, normally 12.99 in Indy. Even there everyday 6pk's like: Sierra Nevada, Founder's, FFF. The tap selection was what most intrigued me, a multitude of choices and again, well priced. The way it is set up is pretty awesome. You can buy a 2oz or 5oz sample to try before you buy. That way you don't have to pull the trigger blindly on a 15-40 growler. (Yes, 40 bucks for some BCS, seems fair, or Vertical Epic 10-10-10)

I enjoyed everything about this place except the service. I don't know if it was because it was rainy/snowy/cold and dark outside or what, but the cashier was pretty off putting. Even so, I can just chalked that up to a bad day. If your're in the area...check this place out, it's worth it.

Stopped in this place on my way down form Chicago to Naples FL. I pretty much only came here to get a growler filled with something interesting, mostly because growlers can only be filled at a brewery in IL.

This store is very massive, easily rivals most Binny's in Chicagoland which is saying a lot. It looked very clean, and well organized. The 12ish or so growler taps were right near the entrance and a guy helped us right away. My goal was to get something local and they had some good stuff on. I went with the BBC Brandy Barrel aged Old Ale for $10.99. Seriously, a growler of a barrel aged high gravity beer for $11? I will take it!

The beer isle is wide and organized mostly by brewery. They had a fairly large local section, most of which I was unaware of. I didn't want to waste all of my vacation beer money on my first stop (although I easily could) so I just picked out a 750mL of a BBC reserve beer.

Overall a gem of a place in what seems like a high traffic area of the city. If I was a local I would be proud to call this my local store.

Q: Clean, big store. Party supplies to the right and back, Wine/booze in the middle (with some scattered cases of beer on sale) and beer in the middle/back. Oh, and a small wall of handles to get growlers from on the right....pretty much lead to them from the entrance.

Svc: No real problem with the service. The guy stocking didn't know too much, but he was helpful in finding things for the other people around me. I prefer to wander first, ask questions after my mind is brewing. He gave me a heads up on when they get shipments so that I could call back looking for a couple gift sets. The guy at the growler station seemed to know what he was doing and talking about.

S/V: Great prices on the growlers, good selection on tap. It's not the BEST that I've seen in KY (kinda hard to beat a place serving Gulden Draak, Maudite, 90 minute and Double Bastard at the same time), but I was VERY happy with it. Picked up an $8.99 Raison d'etre, and I think that the DuganA IPA and Flying Dog Double Dog were both $12.99. I'd like to see someone try to beat that. At first I was pissed that I forgot to bring my growler bottles for the trip. Then, for $3/each, I was pleased to see 3 brown glass growlers with this nice plastic cap with some sort of suction inside the cap. Then the electrical tape (state law?) that added to the good capping.
The bottled section was great. I think this is the "best" of the Liquor Barn stores, but I'm convinced that you can't go wrong with any of them. I don't know where to start with the bottles...uh....I guess Belgians since that's where I went first. Good selection, decent prices. Unibroue 4 packs of 750ml for $19.99...sweet. St. Bernardus gift pack too, which I had no choice but to include in my purchase. Micro's were also great....like most KY stores, there were a lot of things that I just don't see in Indiana. Big Dogfish Head selection, good 3 Floyds, I mean if they can get it I think they've got it. I didn't make it inside the cooler due to time constraints, but I can say that it looked pretty big. Would've been a good idea, though, since a lot of times that's a good place to find some hidden treasure.

All around, this place is another MUST STOP in KY. I would suggest either packing a cooler or buying a cheap one at Meijer across the street, because if you can make it out of there without a growler, you're a stronger man than I.

Stopped in this place a few weeks ago. I haven't ever seen anything like it as far as liquor stores go. I work at a decent sized liquor store, and you could fit about ten of them in this place.

The walk-in cooler is a solid 25 yards long. The craft and import aisles were stocked with a myriad of phenomenal beers. Plenty of vintages (Samichlaus, Ommegeddon, etc.) and harder-to-find items. I was really pleased to find Great Lakes represented, as we have no access to it in Southern Indiana. I made sure to pick up some Edmund Fitzgerald. Just a killer selection.

And then there is Growler Heaven. Holy shit. The tap selection blew away 99% of the bars I've ever been to (still can't touch the Heorot in Muncie). Not only are there ridiculous amounts of great beers on draft, but the pricing is beyond awesome. They range from $6.99 to $12.99. I got a growler of Bigfoot, and it was $12.99. You can't beat that. I can't give an accurate list of the entire selection at the time, but some standouts were: BBC Jefferson's Reserve, Bigfoot, Old Rasputin, SN Southern Hemisphere, Terrible and Two Hearted.

I live a solid two hours from this place, but you can bet your ass that I'll make that drive again. The store is beyond phenomenal. Oh, and a great bourbon selection too. For what it's worth.

I've visited most, if not all, of the Liquor Barn locations. They run the gamut from well-stocked but a bit grungy to downright opulent. This location hits the top of the scale. The "growler heaven" wall rivals the best area bars for tap selection. The bottled selection is excellent and there is a great deli and gourmet and specialty grocery offering. A very good regional representation and they seem to keep up with timely rotation of seasonals. The store staff is quite helpful. When the person I spoke with could not answer a question, he searched out someone who could and reported back.

Easy to find the location of the store.

Great selection of bottles.... Most bottles seemed to be from American micro breweries. Had some international bottles too. You can order kegs from them. You can special order kegs from them as well.

Also had a lot of taps but they seemed to be closed at the time was there.

Large store with pretty good organization throughout the whole store. Staff usually does not know all the beers, where they are, kegs, etc.

Had a small selection of glassware, and other goodies.

Stopped in on a day visit to Louisville. Liquor Barn is similar to the mega booze stores in Northrn Kentucky...which is good.

The one upside of the Liquor Barn is their massive tap selection and it appears you can order flights of beer and drink them in the store at one of many tables. With the stellar tap line up, this makes Liquor Barn a great beer bar with a warehouse atmosphere.

I picked up a bunch of high alcohol Dogfish Head (World Wide Stout, Olde School, and 120 Minute) that I can't get in Ohio because of the ABV limit. All prices were reasonable and I'd recommed it if you're passing through town.

The granddaddy of Liquor Barn stores in the state of Kentucky. Growler Heaven, baby. That is really all I have to say. A liquor store with 40 tap handles, more than most beerpubs in the city. Locals (BBC, Alltech/Lex, Cumberland, Sheltowee), nationally distributed crafts (Bells, Stone, DFH, New Holland, Founders, Ommegang, SN, etc.), and then imports including two of my favorite, Young's Double Chocolate Stout on a nitro tap and Houblon Chouffe Dobbelen IPA Tripel. Ridiculously awesome.

Not to mention that this store has a huge aisle of American Craft, and another aisle (both sides) dedicated to European imports. A huge selection of vintage beers within those aisles. A great section of nothing but Belgians. They also have a cold section that has many of their craft and import varieties chilled and ready for immediate consumption. It really is like being in a candy shop. Hard to not spend way too much at this store.

There is also an aisle dedicated to homebrewing needs, including a selection of ingredients, books, DIY kits, etc.

As for staff and service, I've always had good luck at this store, but I know it can be hit or miss because not only is the store huge - meaning you can walk for a few minutes through multiple aisles before running into an employee - but the craft beer section is about the furthest section from the registers and the counter where you can place orders for cases or hard to find brews. Nonetheless, I've met a couple of friendly clerks, one of whom was quite the craft beer enthusiast and engaged me in a 10 minute conversation about my favorite crafts and suggested some new beers I might like.

This is my beer mecca in Louisville. While its not the closest store to my house, I typically make the extra 15 min drive to go to this store when I'm looking for something in particular, such as seasonal releases or rarer releases - this store seems to be better about keeping those seasonals in stock, not to mention that they probably stock at least a good 30-40 beers that you can't find at the other Liquor Barn store on Hurstbourne Lane. Just bigger and more comprehensive. Plus this store is closer to some of the more affluent neighborhoods in the east end, and as such, it triest to appeal to more affluent clientele. You can tell too, because the store itself is nicer - cleaner, better organized aisles, well lit. Even in light of this fact, the prices remain quite reasonable and comparable to the Hurstbourne Lane store. A great place to check out. Do it, just for the Growler Heaven alone.

There are also flights of beer, either four or six beers, that range between $3 and $4. They also have Stone 3 Liter Growlers that you can get filled with one of the two Stone Beers on tap. The taps are constantly changing with seasonal micros and imports...

Where else can you find a tap selection like this?

I stopped into this Liquor Barn location for the first time on a recent trip to Louisville. Out of all the Liquor Barns in Louisville and Lexington I've been to, this is the best one for sure. A recent renovation made it so they now have 40 taps for growler fills. Yes, I said 40! They also have bottled/canned beer in both coolers and on the shelves. Liquor Barn has a great selection of craft, foreign and macro beers, along with a bunch of liquor, wine, and homebrew supplies as well. The pricing seemed reasonable, and the service is good too. Their selection is better compared to the other Liquor Barns in the area, so if you're planning on going to a Liquor Barn you should go to this one if you're looking for a great selection of beer. Liquor Barn is where I go to most for beer. The selection of beer is very good, though their selection of everything seems to be good considering how big the place is. I think the size may hurt a bit on the service side, considering I've had better experiences at smaller stores. However, it is the closest place to me and they seem to have pretty much everything that is distributed to this area. Since you are allowed to buy singles, that really helps for a guy trying to taste as many beers as possible. They also have homebrewing supplies and glassware.

This is the liquor store I frequent the most in Louisville. I am most impressed with the variety of imports, especially English ales. Unfortunately, I have discovered many of these ales past their prime either by a freshness date or the amount of dust accumulated. Having said that, the selection is wonderful, just be careful. The domestic micro selection is also impressive with many west coast and mountain brewers present - Anchor, Anderson Valley, Left hand, and Sierra Nevada among others. The midwest is represented with Great lakes and Bell's, but strangely no Three Floyds. Again, some beers are clearly past their prime. Almost everytime I have been at this outlet, an employee has asked if I needed assistance. This is probably the best place in Louisville to purchase beer because of the selection; just be careful about the freshness.
