Poured from the bottle into a Weihenstephaner weizen glass.

A big head results from the pour, about three fingers thick, pale white and fluffy. The beer is cloudy, a golden color with a blonde haze. There's steady carbonation and the occasional big bubble surging upwards.

On the nose I get wheaty sweetness and malt first, even some clove like a hefeweizen, and subtle hints of spruce. I don't detect any coriander or salt, as I would have expected.

Things get more interesting with the taste. The beer starts off like a hefeweizen, sweet, wheaty and spiced (I'm struggling to connect this with clove or spruce), before becoming more tart with a hint of salt. I get more spruce closer to the finish, so it must be clove I detect initially.

The beer has a light quality to it, yet still retains a good body. It has an effervescent feel on the tongue, some bubbliness from the carbonation and yeast. There's only a slight tartness and a dry effect that comes with the taste of salt.

This beer's very interesting to me. I find it enjoyable, but just like the sour wheat ale I had recently, not sour to the American tongue. There are a medley of flavors within and I enjoy them, but I do find that this beer to closely resembles a hefeweizen rather than boldly proclaiming itself a gose. I suppose I'd like a little more explosiveness from the salt and spices. Typical American.

From a 500 ml bottle into a pokal glass. Reviewed from notes dated June 12, 2014.

A-A normal pour produces about a finger of white head that fades quickly to a thin cap. The beer is milky with lazy carbonation visible in the light-straw colored liquid. Standard stuff.

S-The aroma is subdued with a bit of toasted wheat malt and a hint of tartness. There is mild lemon aroma and a bit of butter-like body to the malt. Not much in the way of salt or spruce.

T-The taste is a little more complex with some pine/spruce notes floating in and out. There is a bit more tartness and a hint of salt in the background. The malt bill is heavy on the wheat.

M-The body is on the light side and carbonation is smooth and drinkable.

O-This beer is a relatively traditional and simple example of the style. It drinks easy and doesn't blow you away with tartness or salt or whatever. It fits the bill on a hot summer day, but there are better gose beers out there.

16.9 oz bottle poured into a Weizen galss

A - A slightly hazy pale golden color with a dense four finger white head.

S- Tart lemons, some wheat, some coriander, touch of salt, some malt sweetness.

T- Wheat, sweet malts, some tart lemons, some spruce, touch of slat. Wish this was more sour.

M- Smooth, crisp, medium body.

O- Not a bad Gose, but I have had better. Worth trying, might pock up again.

Reviewed from notes. Had on-tap at The Independent. Served in a champagne flute.

A: Hazy light gold, two finger's worth of fluffy white head, and medium visible carbonation.

S: Wheat grainy, light tartness, lemon citrus, and a bit husky and funky.

T: Wheat and pilsner malts, mild tartness, a bit of funk, mild lemon citric, and fairly low salinity for style. Finishes with lingering pilsner malts and mild tartness.

M: Light body, good carbonation sensation. Essentially no detectable alcohol.

O: This isn't a bad beer, but not a particularly great example of a style that's really starting to catch on. Worth a try, but it wouldn't be a go-to beer for me.

Pours a hazy straw color with dense white head, settles to a thin layer; sheet of lace for a few inches down the glass. Smell: grape juice, spice, wheat cracker, citrus and earthy notes Somewhat fruity but no real promise of acid. Taste: interesting... some fruit sweetness (nectarine, grape) into pine and citrus, into snappy lactic + wheat, spice, then finishing semi-dry with residual lemon, a little salt, and lingering herbal note. Not as summertime-crushable as others, but this one packs a good amount of flavor, nice.
