Found this as an extra in a box sent by somabeer. It's always fun to try something new, that you have never heard of.

Smooth and simple pour to a pint glass. At once my glass is topped with an off-white, thin head layer. Not visibly heavy on carbonation. Rich orange/amber, almost mud/clay colored when held to light.

The nose is of the usual hop aromas, along the lines of sublte citrus and faint cantaloupe. However, I don't find the hops to be as pungent as I have become acustomed to my IPAs being.

Taste is of strong malt presence with a well-balanced and interwoven hop flavor. A slight chalkiness lingers on my palate after a few sips.

Without having read the bottle, I wouldn't know from taste or smell this brewery is in California, just based on this lackluster IIPA. I don't know how fresh, or not fresh, the bottle is, so it is unfair for me to say that I don't like this beer, but I don't like it enough to rave about it. I do like it enough to try it again later. Having said that, it is still a decent IIPA and I was happy to have had the chance to try it.

22oz bottle dated 4/29/14 and purchased the very next day at City Beer Store for $6.99, wow that's fresh! Orange, slightly hazy with minute particulate, good lace and short head. Aroma of peach, alcohol, malts. Flavor is fruity hops, peach, alcohol, a little too astringent though. Overall a nice beer, super fresh but doesn't knock my socks off. Solid tho.

Bottled 1/21/14.

Pours a hazy dark honey orange with a foamy orange-tan head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, candied citrus zest, and herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest and herbal hop flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness and an alcohol kick on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that leans more towards the herbal side of the hop spectrum in my opinion.

Very dark clear amber color with a white foam, not too abundant, poured in the Affligem chalice. A little lacing adds to the attractiveness. Filtered; no sediment. Lovely flowery aroma with some piney resins. Spritzy on the tongue with a medium malty body.

This is a darker, less sweet sort of DIPA. The taste of bark and herbs comes through the roasted malt. More grainy than most big IPAs. Some candied grapefruit peel, but not overly bitter. Hints of chestnuts and a whiff of fermenting pineapple. A little woody with some orange in the finish.

This gets better as it warms. An interesting mix of dark, yet flowery flavors. A surprisingly tasty brew that provides a lot of fruit and aromatics. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Bine & Vine in San Diego.

Consumed 4/5/13

Appearance: Hazy caramel color - dark amber, with a lot of orange and yellow when held up to the light - nicely sized, off-white head - keeps a nice cap, leaves some nice splotches of lacing

Smell: Fruity, hoppy, herbal, and grassy - an interesting number of things going on here - orange and grapefruit rinds, somewhat oily, with some pith - herbal, leafy, and grassy - caramel, lightly syrupy malts - hoppy and malty, but I don't think I would necessarily call this balanced

Taste: Bitter and intense, somewhat unexpectedly - oily, wet, sticky citrus - resinous, wet pine - very bitter - big malts as well - caramel, with bready and crackery flavors - leafy, grassy, and herbal - lightly earthy, with some strange (but not bad) spiciness

Mouthfeel: On the full side of medium, nicely carbonated, smooth, somewhat harsh bitter aftertaste - harshness builds over time

Overall: Is this a TMNT reference?

I thought this would be the least intense DIPA that I acquired from San Francisco. I was wrong. This is legitimately intense. Very oily, wet, and hoppy, with some sweet, big malts. Best consumed in a hockey mask, I guess.
