La Tienda is a gas station that sells lots of fried trucker food. But since they are only 15 miles from Logan and, more importantly, across the state line, they also sell lottery tickets (illegal in Utah) and beer. So...their beer section is surprisingly good (for a gas station in a tiny ID hamlet mind you). The reason to I go is to get the brands I can't get in Utah. All the beer is stored in a big walk-in cooler and it is very cramped due to all of the beer they cram in. Unfortunately, more than half the stuff in there is BMC and malternatives, but they offset this slightly by offering mixed (if you want) sixes of New Belgium, Deschute's, Rogue, Pike's, Full Sail, Alaskan, Bayern, Widmer Bros., and Bridgeport to name a few. The beer is usually fresh, but I always double-check. The service is non-existent, but they don't get in the way so that's cool. Prices are a little steep and I wish they would honor my numerous beer ordering requests, but...it is a gas station in a tiny ID town...

Surprisingly good for an outback service-station/restaruant arangement. Convenient, clean, well organized. The "Borderline Grill," an onboard restaurant is outstanding. Serving everything from standard burgers (very nicely done) through unusual items like calimari or Monte Cristo sandwich. Marvelous shrimp. Prices are very competetive. Daily specials...
The beer selection is fabulous. Everything from typical American lagers, (Pudsqueezer, Coors, Miller...) through a full range of microbrew styles. Prices are reasonable. Cheaper than the Utah liquor store (one of which I own and operate) beer prices.
La Tienda is definitely worth checking out if you're in Cache Valley...

The last review was quite some time ago, so I thought I'd add that not much has changed and the other reviewers are right on. For a tiny border town that has a population of six hundred something, not bad. It's a gas station. Big walk in beer cooler, and I got my hands on Bridgeport IPA. Most micros are $8.59/6pack, but the Rogue 6ers run $10. Rogue bombers at $4.89. That's pretty exorbitant if you ask me--these guys are making a killing off of Utahns. I was there on a Saturday evening, and I had to wait in a long line of rednecks with piles of "Full-strength Coors! Hell yeah!" and lottery ticket junkies.
Probably a great resource if you live in Logan or Cache valley--but I bet there's something closer to I-15 if you're driving through that way. In fact, I just found an address listing: The Kwik Stop at 226 East 50 S. in Malad City, ID (208) 766-4950.
Somebody go there and add a beerfly review!
Also, five minutes further up the road is Preston, where you can find bars and a liquor store. Anybody have any information on Preston?

I heard about this place from Alexgash before my trip up to Utah. I was able to convince the people I was staying with to drive me up into Idaho to buy beer. What great people. I really didn't know what to expect and when we rolled up to this place, I was scared I had them drive me up for nothing. Boy was I wrong. Understand first that this is a convenience store attached to a gas station. When you walk in the door, turn directly right and go into the cooler. There, I found more beers that I had not sampled than ones that I had. There were offerings from Alaskan Brewing, Firestation 5, Bridgeport, Snake River, New Belgium, Pike to name those that I still have sitting on my shelf at home. They let you break 6 packs, so I was able to get most everything I wanted. The prices are a bit steep, but for things I had never seen before, I was willing to shell out a little extra. Worth a visit if you are ever up in Logan, UT and want to take a detour to Idaho.
