I was served this beer at the Portland, Oregon Spring Beer Festival on March 21, 2008.

A: It poured a orangeish-red body color with a modest off white head that receded fast and left little head to admire.

S: It emitted aromas that included sweet malts, white fruit (grapes and pears) and light citruses (lemons and oranges).

T: It presented a sweet lightly toasted front that included white fruit flavors (pears and white grapes) and followed by recessive citrus flavors including lemons and oranges.

M: It was a thin, almost watery, light bodied beer with modest carbonation and a crisp flavor profile and clean fishish.

D: It is a smooth and refreshing beer with no dominating flavor and a low ABV...not a bad session beer.

Beautiful, glowing, flushed crimson color but devoid of head or lace. The waitress described this to me as “muscle-y” and a patron confirmed it to be a good choice. This is a seasonal offering and its ABV is rumored to be near 8.0%.

Steinbock possesses a faint, punky aroma. It tastes fresh though I don’t care for the flavor, which is a bit stressed and cloying. The taste makes a fake pass at cherry fruits, then falls hard on sharp bittering; too much bittering in my view, especially for a bock. I’d be very curious to deconstruct the hops in this beer; what kind, how much, and how long?
