What a legitimate craphole this place is. Atmosphere is terrible outdated cheap early 90s. Servers have a bit of attitude. The beers are atrocious. There truly was not one solid beer on the menu. The stout was watery and flavorless. The scotch ale was pungent and off-tasting. The food was mostly fried frozen stuff at outrageous prices for what you get. The only reason I even remember going is because a friend of mine dumped a full pint all over my pants and I made a gigantic scene. Was probably the most exciting thing that happened here since 1992.

I grew up in Vancouver, and while it's nice to have a brewpub in the community, the quality of brews coming from here is very mediocre. In fact, most homebrewers I know are delivering much better beer than this place.

For beer, it has been a consistent disappointment. Most of the beers lack any real body or taste. The styles that are brewed are very bland.

The food is very overpriced and while the service is fine, it is not great.

The atmosphere is decent. It's acceptable. There are nice booths and a fireplace. The bar looks cool.

I saw this place a while back when driving for my job and thought I should give it a try. My wife and I came by hungry and thirsty after a hike at the Ridgefield wildlife refuge. Atmosphere is pretty boring - not much cool to look at, though you can get a peek at the brewing hardware. Service was prompt enough, although I found our server irritatingly clueless about good beer. House beer selections were varied, which is good; the brews themselves were mostly mediocre, which is bad. I wasn't expecting much from the food by the time it arrived, but the eating turned out to be the best thing about this place. My fish sandwich carried a generous slab of sumptuous fluffy white fishy goodness, and the soups were excellent too. Overall, though, when I go to a brewpub I'm going for the beer first and foremost. If that's not good, I can't recommend the place - and so it is with Hazel Dell Brewpub. If their beer improves and they can liven up their dining space a bit, however, they'll have something going on.

Outside of the McMenamins chain there are only two local brewpubs in Vancouver today. The Hazel Dell brewpub was founded in 1993 and sits proudly beside old Highway 99. It's a comfortable family place with a friendly staff, a large fireplace, and a session or two of house beer offerings. This is a restaurant moreso than a bar and closes on weeknights at around 10PM. The bar is clean – even carpeted – and the clientele is largely a close-knit tribe of regulars who appreciate local craft beer.

Hazel Dell pours about nine house ales, two of which are offered on both draught and nitro. Expect five regulars and two seasonals, plus a half dozen guest taps from regional craft brewers like Terminal Gravity or Deschutes. Beer is available to go in quarts and half-gallon growlers plus kegs. Look for the brewery behind a glass partition beyond the bar.

Food is standard northwestern bar fare – salads, burgers, a bit of Mexican fare, and what are claimed to be the best fish'n'chips in town. Happy hour is 3-5 on weekdays when beer and appetizers are served ridiculously cheap.

Two TVs, no pool, no neon, no video or games. Just friendly people, good conversation, and modest session ales. On a recent visit I counted a total of ten men for every woman in the house - usually a sign of good beer.

This place is just down the road from my house but I don't seem to get there much. For some reason it's not one of my favorites and I'm thinking hard about the reasons.

You are allowed to smoke but the filtration system is pretty good so that can't be the reason. The beers are just ok in my opinion. Tasted the Red zone ale and found it had a quirky odd taste. Not too hoppy but kind of like some mediocre home brews I've tried.(and I've tasted some good ones) However the Stout and Porter on nitro were highly drinkable so its not like there isn't some thing good on here.

Haven't tried too many food options but the nacho platter during happy hour(3-5 during weekdays) was pretty good and very cheap. And speaking of cheap, pints are 2.50 during happy hour so bargains can be had here as well.

The service is quite good here even when busy so that's not the problem. The atmosphere is ok. Nothing much too comment about here. Bright, new and clean would about describe it. Nice gas fireplace in the back is pleasant on cold winter evenings. So what's the problem.

This pub just lacks that certain something that draws me out to other places on a regular basis. It's funny how that works huh. Having said all that think I'll drop in soon for a pint of porter on nitro. Just feel like I should support any decent brew pub on this side of the river.
