Poured into an IPA glass. The liquid is a nice syrupy caramel color, with a two-finger off-white, near-yellow head that fades slowly and leaves lots of lace. There are tons of beautiful tiny bubbles rising up from the bottom of the glass to add to the head. Really an exciting appearance.
Smell is lots of hops with a noticeable caramel background. From the hops, I get pineapple, resin, mint, and pine.
Taste is pine, resin, and mint up front, with the malts making themselves known mid-palate by inserting a little bit of caramelly sweetness. The malts are much more noticeable on the finish, where the syrupy sweetness almost takes over before the minty hops come back a bit.
Mouthfeel is nicely thick, with plenty of carbonation to make sure it doesn't get too syrupy.
Overall, it definitely exceeded my expectations, although my expectations were not super high because I'm not as crazy about huge IPAs as some others are. Still, this is remarkably easy-drinking and non-syrupy for as much flavor and alcohol as it packs.
