Pours a very hazy, dark golden orange color with tangerine edges and a one finger, frothy white head that slowly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Decent retention with streaks of spotty lacing left behind.

Dank floral hop aroma with a strong earthy, resinous quality countered by subtle fruit sweetness and a subtle pale malt backbone. Sticky hop oils with some soil, grass, pine needle and spruce tip followed by faint grapefruit, citrus and stone fruit. Cracker-y malt backbone with some bread and biscuit. Sweeter malt notes come forward as it warms, giving off some caramel and toffee. Decent enough aroma but could use more tropical/citrus fruit sweetness to counter all of the grassy, earthier characteristics.

On the fuller end of medium body with a blast of dry, earthy bitterness that lingers over the sweet malt backbone into a hot, boozy finish. Sticky hop flavor dominates the palate with hints of dirt/soil and grassy pine needle. Very dry and overwhelmingly bitter. Desperately in need of some sweetness for balance. The subtle tropical/citrus fruit presence found in the nose is completely overpowered. The bitter hop profile is countered by a sweet malt backbone with hints of bread, biscuit, toffee, caramel and roasted nut. The malt backbone us stronger than I usually prefer but in thus beer it actually helps mute the unpleasantly aggressive hops. Strong fuesel alcohol flavor lingering in the finish becoming overwhelmingly hot and boozy. The high ABV isn't well masked at all with tons of ethanol flavor and warmth in the finish. Not one of Sixpoint's finer offerings, in my opinion.

"Where the telescope ends, the microscope begins. Which of the two has the grander view? Hi-Res. Zoom on, zoom in, hop out. This beer goes up to eleven." Brewed in the style of an American Imperial IPA. Released in 12 oz. can 4 packs and on limited draft.

Poured from a 12 oz. can to a tulip glass. Served above 58º Fahrenheit.

(Appearance) Pours a crisp frothy head of a cream white complexion over a mildly hazy orange-amber body. Very fine sediment is the only impediment to clarity, carbonation is virtually nonexistent in the appearance. Retention is above average, lacing is light and spotty. 3.75

(Smell) Resinous, piney and spicy hops forward with a bold bitterness are joined by a biscuity caramel syrup body for a strong balance. 3.75

(Taste) Quite assertive in its flavor, the malt profile is a husky, biscuity and grainy caramel syrup body joined with an assortment of resinous, herbal and peppery hops for an altogether sharp and bitter presentation. 3.75

(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick, moderately chewy, mildly sticky. Carbonation is mellow, generating a soft frothiness for a subtle mouthfeel. Body is medium/high for the style, medium/high overall. Balance is nearly equal maltiness vs bitterness, both very profound. Alcohol presence is moderate, some grainy sharpness in places keeps Hi-Res from drinking as cleanly as it should. 3.5

(Overall) I had high expectations for Hi-Res, especially from the hype that was built around this beer in the weeks following its arrival in Georgia. Altogether, the malt profile is a bit rough around the edges, the hop flavor a tad one-dimensional and the booziness far too exposed to consider this a top-grade DIPA, although many have fared far worse. 3.75

Pours hazy amber with a large fading head.
Nose shows tons of sweet syrupy malt, some lychee, a bit of pine. Very malty. Some booze.
Flavours include truckloads of sweet confectionery malt, almost cloying. Massive bitterness to balance. Some pine and resinous hops. Very full-on but the booze isn't all that prominent.
Very syrupy body. Nice high carbonation.
