A - A very active cascading and billowing pour that yields two plus fingers worth of fluffy pillow like slightly off-white colored frothy goodness comprised of medium-sized and larger bubbles... Stellar retention... Once settled, this one recedes to a bit more than standard lacing but is lopsided and partially splotchy... Mostly still with a few stray very sluggish carbonation bubbles within... The color is a pale-to-medium gold that lacks any sort of luster... Appears to be thick and slightly more viscous that I would expect for the style... Loads of sticky lacing clings to the sides of the glass...

S - The hop profile is clearly at the forefront as expect, but it isn't overpowering - actually it's fairly restrained... Loaded with lots of citrus and tropical fruits... Oranges... Pineapple... Mango... Nectarine... There is a rock solid malt base of graham crackers and caramel that lies a bit beneath the surface...

T - Everything that the aroma alluded to is present, but the intensity is dialed-up several notches... In addition to the fruity hop goodness and the sturdy malt based the flavor profile also reveals some modest notes of honey and candied sugars... On the finish there is a the slight bit of alcoholic burn which intensifies, but in a very satisfying manner that adds a unique dimension...

M - Exquisite... On the lighter side of full bodied... A light bit of prickly carbonation... Chewy... Sticky... Syrupy... Lush... Given all that over top components of this offering, the mouthfeel is potent but exceptionally smooth and delectable... Goes down easily sip after sip...

D - There are a lot of DIPAs that BAs seek out and place on a pedestal and this offering should be added to that elusive list... Outstanding appearance and flavor profile... The mouthfeel is amongst the best there is... Turning up the aroma a notch or two would make this one truy exceptional... This is really good stuff that I can easily recommend all BAs seek out and enjoy... Drinks a bit like an American Barleywine and hides the 11.1% ABV very well...

This brew dances from the can with an unexpected aggressive carbonation which builds a big chunky white head atop a medium amber hued body. Aggressive and chunky lacing down the glass and a cap of foam that never goes away. Floating sediment throughout provides a haze and hint of the aggressiveness in store. Big notes of honey dipped grapefruit and tropical fruits in the nose. Taste follows through delivering on the honey sweetness enveloping every other flavor of grapefruit, mango, pineapple, and papaya. Major resinous hop quality underneath it all. Flashes of alcohol heat woven onto the flavor profile which while cold adds to the depth of flavor but as it warmed became a bit much and distracting. Bright and vibrant mouthfeel with great carbonation prevents this from ever feeling heavy. Finishes with a flash of creaminess in the mouthfeel leaving behind the great flavors of the beer that's surprisingly not overly bitter. Overall I was surprised by this beer. It manages to be big, bright and complex while being drinkable. At 11.1% this beer is dangerous and if they can find a way to hide the heat this would be on a whole new level.

"Where the telescope ends, the microscope begins. Which of the two has the grander view? Hi-Res. Zoom on, zoom in, hop out. This beer goes up to eleven." Brewed in the style of an American Imperial IPA. Released in 12 oz. can 4 packs and on limited draft.

Poured from a 12 oz. can to a tulip glass. Served above 58º Fahrenheit.

(Appearance) Pours a crisp frothy head of a cream white complexion over a mildly hazy orange-amber body. Very fine sediment is the only impediment to clarity, carbonation is virtually nonexistent in the appearance. Retention is above average, lacing is light and spotty. 3.75

(Smell) Resinous, piney and spicy hops forward with a bold bitterness are joined by a biscuity caramel syrup body for a strong balance. 3.75

(Taste) Quite assertive in its flavor, the malt profile is a husky, biscuity and grainy caramel syrup body joined with an assortment of resinous, herbal and peppery hops for an altogether sharp and bitter presentation. 3.75

(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick, moderately chewy, mildly sticky. Carbonation is mellow, generating a soft frothiness for a subtle mouthfeel. Body is medium/high for the style, medium/high overall. Balance is nearly equal maltiness vs bitterness, both very profound. Alcohol presence is moderate, some grainy sharpness in places keeps Hi-Res from drinking as cleanly as it should. 3.5

(Overall) I had high expectations for Hi-Res, especially from the hype that was built around this beer in the weeks following its arrival in Georgia. Altogether, the malt profile is a bit rough around the edges, the hop flavor a tad one-dimensional and the booziness far too exposed to consider this a top-grade DIPA, although many have fared far worse. 3.75
