An excellent Baltic porter from Sixpoint. Pours a thick dark brownish black with a solid tan head that dies down to a thin layer and lightly clinging foam. Smells of coffee, vanilla, oak, and dark chocolates. Taste is relatively the same with chocolate up front, coffee and vanilla on the back, and velvety oak to the side. Some nice boozy heat to this one with some nice cocoa on the aftertaste. Complexity improves with warmth. Although I am not an oak or bourbon barrel lover this is an exceptional beer. Pricey on the growler station, but still very nice and more than solid.

Good looking beer: flat black body, firm tan head with good retention.

Mild coffee and cacao aroma, with a sweet hint of booziness.

Dark roasted coffee and bitter cacao; dry woodiness with a slightly sour mustiness from the barrel.

Very smooth and even feel. Little heat.

This is an excellent BA coffee porter, with phenomenally subtle barrel characteristics.

poured 16oz into a snifter.

A - Dark obsidian with brown highlights around the edge of the glass. Thick 2 finger tan head with good amounts of lacing. A thick collar stays for the session.

S - A pleasant chocolate porter, roasted malt scent with a hefty amount of bourbon and some vanilla. There are bitter notes of coffee and espresso along with some charred wood.

T - Bourbon up font followed by roasted malts, bitter notes of coffee and espresso. Vanilla, charred wood and some earthy flavors also make an appearance. The chocolate is more subdued and hidden, but there as it warms. There is a boozy aftertaste.

M - Silky smooth, medium body and good carbonation. Somewhat bitter and warm with booze.

O - It is good, but the booze is a bit strong and that seems to work against the roasty bitter notes. It is a nice evening beer.

Incredible complexity and grace emits from the depth of darkness that's supplied by the beans that complements to the brewing process for this larger-than-life porter. But it's really the tale of two beans, a kernel and a barrel that tell's this beer's story best.

The porter settles into the glass with a patient calm that's in no hurry to release its foamy crown. But eventually, the ominously dark body builds a rich lather that swirls about the rim like latte creme. Its strong staying power trails, leaving a broken but lacy decor on the glass.

Bold and roasty aromas greet the olfactories with a depth of dark-roast coffee, dark chocolate, roasted nuts and an earthy chicory and bark-like tone. The supporting sweetness escapes the brunt of toasty goodness with the character of toffee and burnt toast. A quick rise of bourbon soaked oak invite softer aromas of coconut, vanilla, cherry and caramel make amends with its first sip looming.

The initial taste picks up on hearty sweetness immediately- deep toffee, charred toast, bittersweet chocolate, roasting walnuts and french-press coffee alternate between savory taste and near-roast robustness. Once its sweetness recedes over the middle, the ale dries and its maltiness is replaced with barrel sweetness and alcohol complexities; closing with lingering wood char, spicy bourbon and elegant vanillans with coconut-laden caramels.

Lavishly silk textures balance against the dry toasted edges for tactile sensations that are both refined and raw. While the malts dissolve, taking with its the creamy carbonation, the full bodied beer trends roasty, dry, peppery and warm.

The cocoa bean, coffee bean and toasted barley seeds lead the taste buds around like a puppy on a leash. But those husky bourbon flavors remind the palate that this boisterous porter is for the big dogs!

Pours a hazy deep brown with a frothy khaki head that lingers.

Coffee, roast malt, and chocolate dominate the aroma, with notes of vanilla and bourbon adding complexity.

Bourbon dominates the flavor initially, which is overtaken mid palate by roast, and bitter coffee grounds in the finish. Oak is overwhelmed, but hints of chocolate and vanilla counter the bitterness.

Body is smooth and moderate, with overwhelming alcohol warmth. Carbonation is minimal.

The roast malt is dominant, and a bit too bitter for my liking. Alcohol overwhelms, as well. But the bourbon, chocolate, and vanilla flavor redeem the beer somewhat. I don't get the earthy complexities I enjoyed in the original version.
