Another fine beer from Sixpoint. This American IPA pours a beautiful golden-yellow with a decent head and light lacing. The aroma is very floral and citrusy. The malt sweetness hits you right away when drinking, very quickly followed by an amazing citrus-hops flavor that is bold yet not too much that it would make this beer unenjoyable. The finish is citrus peel. This beer is crisp, full of flavor and has a very clean end that leaves just the right amount of taste in your mouth. Can't wait to try the other offerings from the guys at Sixpoint !!

Poured into a Riedel tulip from a can labeled best before 08May15. The liquid is a clear golden-orange, with plenty of carbonation. The pour kicks up a solid two-finger off-white head that leaves lots of lace and has remarkable staying power. It settles to at least one finger that stays almost for the remainder of the beer.

Aroma is wonderfully citrusy and bright - lots of oranges and tangerines, with a sugar cookie malt undertaste. Nicely balanced.

Taste follows the nose - bright citrus up front backed by sugar cookies on the finish. The finish is not as bitter as the hop presence would lead you to expect. Aftertaste is nice sweet candied oranges.

Mouthfeel is light-bodied with lots of carbonation - great for the style.

Overall, a wonderfully balanced and flavorful IPA. This is a go-to for me.

From a can at Rattle n Hum, NYC. At a declared 62 IBU I can't believe how much I like this brew.

Pours into an amazingly luxurious head that leaves a shaving cream density lacing.

Almost citrusy aroma that leads to a reall well balanced & refreshing taste.

Great viscosity.

An overall wonderous experience in the eyes of this hops averse consumer.

Thanks to everyone at Sixpoint for showing the way.

Pour at Independence Beer Garden in Philly.
Very Good IPA. Near Perfect Bitterness, Hop Flavor and Aroma for an American IPA. Citrusy, Slight Pine, and Resin. A touch of sweet maltiness to balance to bitterness. Just what I want in an IPA.

Sixpoint have positioned this Bengali as a tiger of an IPA. A bold statement indeed. However I already know Sixpoint for their Resin - the bitterest hop attack my tongue ever experienced, so I know what to expect from Bengali. My hope is that Sixpoint have reigned their hop ponies in a little bit this time, I love hops, but there is a limit to how much my flavour receptors can handle.

Poured from a 355ml can (yes cans are back in vogue these days, better for the environment and cheaper to package beers, deal with your hang-ups people!) into a nonic pint.

A: Faintly hazed golden-orange body with a fluffy 2cm cream head that leaves a spiders-web of lace as it fades. Not bad, you know I love my yeast in the glass (i.e. non-filtered) but this is nice too. 7/10.

S: Fresh pine upfront, with citric (orange starburst) notes throughout. Not detecting any malts, they’re in there but the hops are just too big and fresh to let them come out and play. Did I mention how fresh and juicy this IPA smells? It’s a damn good bouquet. 9/10.

T: Interesting spin on an IPA from Sixpoint - It’s almost entirely hops; pine, orange starburst and herbal characters all over. The malts are balanced in a way that sweetness is hardly noted at all. A showcase for hops then from Sixpoint. There is bitterness in the finish but thankfully it is a bit more restrained than the Resin. 7/10.

M: Medium bodied with some hop oiliness and a light carbonation. Pretty good stuff. 8/10.

D: Well it’s a tall order for any IPA to follow after my review of the spectacular Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA. Bengali is a decent effort however I still think the West Coast is the best coast [for breweries that is]. Oh yeah and the balance could definitely be more even-handed between sweet/bitter. That said - given a nice hot curry this is one can of beer I would instinctually grasp for. 7/10.

Food match: Curry set and match.
