"Best by 7/19/15"; drank 2/22/15 @ the Yarchives.
Poured from the can into a glass.
Brown appearance; some purple hues when held to the light.
HUGE tan head (careful pouring!); frothy lace.
Faint nose; barely there notes of dirt, coffee grounds & citrus.
Medium mouthfeel.
Dusty gravel up front; coffee grounds & faint citrus on the finish. A hint of booze emerged as this warmed. Odd & unpleasant.

Beast mode is the man. Growler to pint glass, complements of JPK.
Aroma is roasted malt.
Nice caramel color, with medium tan head.
Lots of nutty and malty flavor.
Go hawks.

"My ancestors danced around a campfire and drank strange brews. Many Beasts were present. The drums were poundingl the rhythm was jamming. Let's keep the fire going and the ritual Love your Beast... it's Mad Science. Brewed in the style of an American Porter, available in 12 oz. canned 4 packs and on limited draft.
Poured from a 12 oz. can to a snifter glass.
(Appearance) Pours a frothy foam head of a medium tan color over a deep burgundy body with high clarity and sparse carbonation. Retention is excellent and lacing is moderate and patchy. 4.5
(Smell) Caramel and crystal malts forward with a pinch of subtle roasted grain, toasted bread malts, and a moderate hoppy bitterness with notes of rich citrus and delicate pine. Potency is moderate. Aroma is notable as a very hoppy porter. 3.75
(Taste) Bread malts with a reserved sweetness, light caramel malt body, a breath of roasted grain on the finish, drinking very light makes it reminiscent of a porter, yet packed with a nicely balanced and complex enough body. Modest hop character does not generate much bitterness, but slight citrus and fruit notes. 3.75
(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick, lightly chewy, clean, medium dry. Carbonation is moderate, generating a medium frothiness and a moderately crisp finish. Body is shy of medium for the style, medium+ overall. Balance is nearly even sweet to specialty malt bitterness character. Alcohol presence is low and there are no off characters. 3.75
(Overall) Beast Mode may not pack a great deal of flavor, and even for a porter it shows its lightness on the malt front. What it lacks in body, it makes up for in the flavor dimension for what it does have, and compliments with the added dimension of a polite, but welcome hop flavor as well. Altogether, this is a tasty blend of malt characters that warrants a try, if Sixpoint decides to revisit this beer in the future, and of course redistributes to Georgia. We're all pulling for you guys over here! 3.75

My snow day here at Chez Woody CANtinues with a Porter interlude. This is a Slimline (tm) CAN in furtherance of The CANQuest (tm)!
From the CAN: "Beer is Culture"; " ... My ancestors danced around a campfire and drank strange brews. Many Beasts were present. The drums were pounding; the rhythm was jamming. Let's keep the fire going, and the ritual. Love your Beast ... It's Mad Science."; "Formulated by The Mad Scientists"; "Inspired by our heritage: Water, Malt, Hops, and Beast."; "Beer for Beasts".
I Crack!ed the CAN open, but I only used a gentle Glug to raise a finger of foamy, light-tan head with decent retention. Color was Brown to Dark Brown (SRM = > 22, < 27) with NE-quality clarity and amber highlights & the CAN reads "24 SRM". Nose had a chocolaty, slightly medicinal smell. I used to associate it with my late-grandparents' Geritol, but carob is a better analogy. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was definitely carob! It was chocolaty, but not really chocolate. I remember my utter disappointment, as a kid, at being given carob as though it were chocolate. Blah! As an adult, I like it a lot more, since I generally eschew truly sweet stuff and tend away from malt-driven beers. Warming, it reminded me of a Brown Ale in that it took on a slightly hoppy bitterness. I read a newspaper columnist recently who could not quantify the difference between a Porter & a Stout. Pshaw! This was definitely a Porter, with a light smokiness, but a light mouthfeel, also. It finished semi-sweet with a lingering carob flavor. It made for an interesting drink, but one was satiating for me.

Amazingly creamy, almost fluffy mouthfeel when agitated. A moderately hop-forward aroma is replicated on the palate.

Six point Brewery "Beast Mode"
12 oz. can, "BB09JUL2015 1040"
$1.99 @ Atlantic Liquors, Rehoboth Beach, DE
Seeing as how this beer's been retired I don't really feel the need to go into too much depth with it. I've actually had it several times before but I just never got around to reviewing it, so I'll firstly say that it's exactly as I remember it but a touch less hoppy; and although it's almost 2 months past it's "best by" date I don't find any oxygenation in either the aroma or the flavor. It's got a clear dark malt component to it (dark chocolate, bittersweet chocolate, almost burnt sugar, a thin bit of dark caramel, a subtle roasty edge, etc.) and it's hoppy: grassy, floral and gently citrusy. It's aggressive, but at the same time it remains balanced. I like it, and I'm a little bit disappointed they've dropped it, but I'm just as much to blame as anyone else I guess... out of the last 50 or so Sixpoint beers I've had in the last year or so how many have been "Beast Mode"? - about 6. My bad.
