First brewed in 2005, this Abbey-inspired brew uses an authentic Abbey yeast, belgian candi sugar made from beets, and American hops for a unique Sixpoint formulation.

9/16...from the can.Pours orange copper, darker on top, 1/4 inch white foam that settles out. Slight sugar nose. Heavy malt flavor, dark fruit, candi sugars. Complex flavor. Slightly sweet, but balanced by a slightly hop.

This beer is a home run...with loads of American hops and malts to balance. Traditional Belgian yeast, give a great mouth feel. Abbey style with a sixpiont twist! something new and bold! and in your face! I love this beer!

Sweet marmalade, candied orange, a touch a floral, a touch of honey, slight bitterness of the back end. Overall...a very sweet beer. I'm a big fan of Sixpoint however this beer doesn't quite do it for me. Didn't hate it by any means, just wouldn't buy again.

- 4 oz. pour off tap at The Crafty Monk (Fairfield, CT) into flight glass on 11-Aug-15

Overall a very decent example of the style, but I happen to try NEBCO's Neighbor of the Beast earlier that day that takes the win over this one. Wouldn't mind tasting this one again.

My daughter's namesake...

A - Two fingers worth of crisp yet lush and fluffy light khaki colored frothy goodness... Excellent retention... Once receded there is a full but uneven lacing and moderate to thick collar... The color is a mix of deep amber and light caramel... A light to moderate bit of slightly sluggish carbonation... Gobs of lacing cling to the sides of the glass... Rather exquisite appearance all the way around...

S - The Belgian yeast is slightly out in front of the rest of the aroma, but it doesn't over power... There is a subtle spicy component... There is also a light hop presence... Light tropical fruit... Pear and apple... Also some sweet honey notes... Then a big malt base surfaces... Mainly a mix of caramel and cake batter...

T - All the components from the aroma are pleasant... Belgian yeast... Tropical fruit hoppiness... Honey... Light spice notes... Cake batter... Rock solid malt base... Loads of layers and loads of complexity... All the flavors ebb and flow with each sip yield subtle new nuances...

M - On the fuller side of medium bodied... Full of lively, but not overpowering carbonation... Lush... Light and refreshing.... Smooth... Very pleasant...

D - A very interesting and very satisfying take on the Belgian Pale Ale... Well above average in all facets... I don't have any constructive criticism to provide and this one is stellar exactly as is... This one ends up being a bit more than the sum of its stellar parts... I would have this in my regular rotation if available around me (unfortunately it is not)... Highly recommended...

The people at The Fridge get so excited when they get in a new CANned beer or two for me to add to The CANQuest (tm)! I was happy to take this Slimline (tm) CAN off of their hands and distribute them accordingly.

From the CAN: " ... The story of ABIGALE begins in an 800-sq.-foot garage in BKLYN when we first brewed Abbey back in our own 'Dark Ages': 2005. Wake up, brew beerm sell beer, deliver beer, drink beer, sleep beer, rinse, repeat. Carry the monastic torch through the darkness and the star keeps on shining. It's Mad Science."; "Please keep refrigerated. This ale was dry-hopped with fresh hops."

I am in love with these new Slimline CANs! It feels like I am opening an energy drink with each Crack! This one was nice and loud and although an inverted Glug might have been fun, dry-hopping suggested lees. I still got a finger of foamy, fizzy, tawny head with moderate retention from my pour. Nose was really sweet, sugary sweet. Color was Deep Amber/Light Copper to Copper (SRM = > 13, < 17) with NE-quality, although the CAN puts it at 14 SRM. Scoff now! Mouthfeel was surprisingly thin. The taste could not seem to decide whether to be sweet or bitter. There seemed to be a wrestling match taking place on my tongue. There was no clear-cut winner as the fusel alcohol decided to take a flamethrower to my poor, bruised tongue. Wah! This was, indeed, a big ale. Finish was dry, but hot. It seems to me that this is a beer to be aged, despite the CAN scoffers. If I CAN score another, I may give this idea a whirl.

Pours vibrant amber with a large head.
Nose shows spicy Belgian phenols, pear and apples, some soft floral hop notes and sweet clean malt.
Flavours are clean too but with some booze and Belgian yeast notes showing.
