Another find at Pies & Pints in Middlebury, CT this stout is typically
pitch black with a goodly topping of light tan foam and blanketing lace. As far
as the aroma, I'm sorry to say nothing much comes to mind here, maybe a slight
hint of malt, but this oddly has little to offer. The flavor thankfully undoes
any harm from the nose hit by delivering a smooth but substantial molasses malt
with mild charcoal edges. There's a mild grassy hop that gradually emerges and
becomes a significant part of this stout along with a lavender idea. Eventually
I get some roasted coffee bean bitterness as well. This presents a solidly
medium body with a bit of an aqueous and chalky feel. It's a solid effort but
not at all extraordinary.
