A - Completely opaque, low carbonation (growler so dependent upon serving establishment), nice tan head, lots of lacing.

S - Lots of roasted notes with a touch of hop.

T - Like the smell, tons of roasted malt, I would say more chocolate than coffee...not a complaint, just expected over the top coffee. Nice hop bitterness on the finish, no acrid bite...nice.

M - Moderate body, but nothing too heavy, keeps you wanting another sip. Would not mind a touch more carbonation but this could be the place I get the growler fill.

O - Very solid porter, have enjoy it a couple times and will certainly enjoy it again. Especially like that it is local-ish.

Thanks to Shane for the bottle.

12oz. unlabeled bottle poured into a tulip.

A: Pours nearly a solid black, very little light. 2 fingers of light mocha head forms pretty tight and holds nicely. Decent lacing.

S: Some light coffee notes and a bit of starchy chicory like aroma. Light roast and a bit of sweetness. Very subtle.

T/M: More of the light coffee and starchy flavor. There's a decent amount of alcohol, bringing some light fruity phenols. Plenty of roasty flavor as well, bringing some bitterness to the table. Carbonation is quite high, making it feel like a Belgian hybrid? The Bolshoi I had from Sixpoint Craft Ales was the same way, very unique. A touch of tartness in the back with the fruitiness. Body is medium to medium full with strong carbonation to lighten the feel a bit.

D: ABV is up there a bit. Tasty and very interesting.

Thanks to PEBKAC for this glorious handbottled gem.

It pours a thick, viscous dark chocolate with a proper thick fluffy froth. The aroma is chocolate and espresso - but not too assuming. The taste builds with more coffee flavor and a bitter dark chocolate bite. I loved the creaminess of the body. Very tasty.

I'll hold this up with Berkshire Coffeehouse Porter and AleSmith Speedway Stout as the triad of truly phenomenal coffee flavored ales.

Not as prominent a coffee smell as some; we recently had the Kona Wipeout Porter, made with Kona coffee, and that had much more of a prominent coffee nose. Doesn't have the roasted character you might expect, more sweet than deep roasted. Pours a nice clear brown, lot of lace in the head. A little thin for a porter, but nice color, very drinkable.

Pours a solid brown color with a big frothy khaki colored head. The head takes its time settling but seems a little loose and the beer appears watery.

The aroma is of a moderate roast coffee. That aroma is nice but I don't get much else from the porter.

The taste is of coffee, pleasant and not bitter. There is some slight roast notes. Besides the coffee there is not much depth to this porter. I am disappointed based on the reviews.

The feel is light, very light for the style. The carbonation is light which helps lead to a watery feel. An overall light coffee bitterness on the palate.

Nice coffee flavor but that is about it. The rest of the porter falls short and is thin. I wanted to like this more but it is way too thin.

Thick rich long lasting head of a light brown hue. Lots of lace and a dark, dark opaque brown fluid underneath. Lovely aroma of coffee and sweet burnt caramel. Some molasses and toffee notes as well. Roasted grains are evident as well as bready, (maybe floor ) malt. Some good earthy hops balance the nose well. Taste follows the nose with a bigger malt backbone and mild fruitiness giving a mildly English flavor. A healthy amount of charcoal gives a dry feel and personality. Some cocoa shows up as well. Finish is well hopped with coffee and mild grapefruit skin bitterness. A lingering toffee sweetness has toasted sweet brown bread in it. Feel is silky and crisp with a lightness that you expect from a lower abv. Super drinkable and delicious. Definitely one of my favorite porters.
