"You wanna get nuts? Lets get nuts. Beer brewed with BeerAdvocate founder Todd Alstrom. A triple-brewed version of our original classic-three times the malt, three times the hops, three times the fun. It barely fit in the mash tun-maxed out love for Beer for Beasts."

Growler from DeCicco's in Ardsley, poured into a tulip glass.

A) Pours a nice orange color with a fluffy white head. Nice lacing.

S) Citrusy, oranges, lemons, lemon zest.

T) Again the citrus, but the finish is sweet although there is a bit of a sourness, kind of like a sweet tart!

M) Not overly carbonated.

Overall, glad I had a chance to try. Sixpoint normally throws out some of their bigger beers in the summer (Crusher). The alchohol is very well hidden if it is 13%. Would buy again.

A: The beer is very cloudy orange in color and poured with a thin ring of white bubbles around the edge of the glass and a patch of bubbles in the center on the surface.
S: The smell is very sweet and pleasant with hints of lemon and orange citrus.
T: The taste seems like this beer was made with a truckload of ingredients and is very sweet and malty with hints of caramel.
M: It feels full-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is remarkably good considering its strength and has some interesting flavors. The alcohol is well hidden from the taste.

Served on tap at Mugs Alehouse in Brooklyn, NY

A: Pours a cloudy golden orange in color with a half finger tall soapy white head. The head reduces to a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate lacing is observed.

S: Lots of sweetness in the aroma with some hints of citrus and floral hops. Citrus is more of the lemon/orange than grapefruit and there are some subtle hints of the alcohol as the beer warms.

T: Lots of complexity in the flavor of this beer - it is an assault of different elements. Starts out with a lot of caramel + toffee malt sweetness, then you get some subtle citrus + floral hints, and the finish is a lingering bitterness. Very well balanced.

M: Medium bodied with light to moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth but with some alcohol heat in the finish as the beer warms.

O: Very well balanced and good amount of complexity. Until the beer gets really warm, the alcohol remains well hidden - this beer could easily sneak up on you as you sit around sipping it. Definitely one to get again.

Sixpoint Triple Sweet Action, on tap at The Pony Bar in Hell's Kitchen, NYC. Listed as 9.6% ABV.

Appearance: Served in their signature eight-ounce glass, Triple Sweet comes with a super-frothy two-finger head. Great retention, head lingers for a long while in its entirety. Color is a hazy caramel-orange, like a Double IPA.

Smell: Honey, spice, clover. Ton of malt. Sugar. Reminds of walking on Infirmary Mound Park on a hot summer day in Ohio. The flowers, the scent, the sun...

Taste: More honey, glue, malt. Prickly finish. Very sweet at the end, like liquid boozed-up agave nectar. A tad of liquorice.

Mouthfeel: Thin, watery finish. Medium body and flavor, low carbonation (almost non-existent). Dry spicy finish with the slightest touch of woodsy bourbon/barrel.

Overall: Drinkability is very good, the 9.6% (or higher, according to the BA listing) is not really noticeable. Never boozy or overwhelming. A little too sweet (honoring its name) and unremarkable, but enjoyable nonetheless.

I had this at a Sixpoint event at the Mohawk House in Sparta, NJ. They had six of their beers on tap including Mad Scientist #4 and one of their single hop IPAs, the one with Chinook hops. I had all three but liked this one the best and had two tulip glasses, which is one too many.

If you like Sweet Action and you're a hophead, you'll love this beer. Especially if your favorite hop profile is citrus, like mine. The Sixpoint rep who was present (Jersey Dan) told me the list of hops and the wonderful citrus aroma seems to be from the Amarillos they used toward the end of the boil. I had to smell my first one for a while before tasting because I liked the smell that much.

The flavor was similar to the regular sweet action with more hop action going on and a creamier body (not to mention a creamier, longer-lasting head). The sweetness of honey malts is still in there, but the balance with the hop load was great.

I hope they bring this back to Jersey and I hope I have the wisdom to only have one glass next time. This beer is dangerous as, in the words of Jersey Dan, "it's a 12.8% beer that drinks like a 9%." And he's right. You'll smell the booze in the nose, but it dances so well with the citrus hops that it doesn't raise any alarms. The problem is that you really can't taste it.
