Another home brewer’s dream here - a delicious single hop IPA. I love to be able to try these and really get a feel for what the exact characteristics of a particular hop really are. As done by a professional. Fired my way by way of BeerTruth. Drank from my Russian River tulip.

Appearance- Pours a hazy light yellow with a fairly small half finger bright white head that looks soft and fluffy. Not much cap sticks around but a thin collar clings to life and leaves a random spot of lace here and there.
Smell- Not as potent as I was expecting but it’s nice and citrusy. Light peach or subtle mango with hints of bitter grapefruit. It’s very sort of west coast smelling without the big citrusy wallop. Definitely no real earthy tones in this hop as it really is just nice and fruity. A light touch of some malty sweetness underneath but it’s light and out of the way.
Taste- Starts surprising earthy with a touch more bitterness that I would have expected. A fair amount of grass and some light tinges of dandelion stem to start before giving away to the more traditional fruitiness you’d expect. Hints of peach and plenty of bitter grapefruit pith finish the beer. That pithy bitterness really lingers into the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel- Medium body with a nice bright zap of carbonation. Oily and slick – feels like an IPA should.
Overall- Not bad at all! It’s sort of a ying/yang type beer from the nose to the taste. The nose is ripe and fruity - exactly what you’d expect from Centennial. The taste is surprisingly bitter and is almost devoid of the aforementioned fruit. I’m curious to how exactly this is hopped. I wonder if it’s a dose for 60/90 min and then more at flameout? Interesting stuff. Thanks Adam!

Appears a bright gold orange copper hue with a slight hazed body going on, forms a full white head forming thick with fine speckled lacing. Aroma has some nice biscuit malts with tropial fruit and strong citrus/grapefruit notes. I guessed this blindly as being either the Centennial or Amarillo single hopped Spice of Life. Flavor was full of citrus pith/grapefruit notes and a strong semi sweet malty/biscuit malt component with some mild spicy yeast tones coming through. Medium bodied ale with even carbonation very quality beer in my glass. Overall a go to beer that I would enjoy any month I hope to see more of the Sixpoint offerings on tap especially this varietal hopped Spice of Life series.

Tap at Armsby Abbey. Centennial is usually my fav hop as it's so versatile and adds great spicy and citrusy grapefruit like qualities.

Light fizzy 1/2 finger head fades with a bit of lacing, hazy golden banana yellow color.

Nose had fresh centennial hops, bit spicy, grapefruit, citrus, bit of a malty base.

Taste starts a bit malty, spicy hops, slightest hint of grapefruit and citrus, fresh bitter hop, juicy pale malts, little gritty and earthy like hop. Finishes semi dry, fairly bitter, lingering spicy and citrus hops, little fruity.

Mouth is med bodied, decent carb.

Overall not bad, I don't think the best representation of centennial hops, either a bad batch or it just doesn't come through as much as I expected or have from experience with homebrewing. The hops seemed faded to much in this one. Overall a decent beer though.

A: A nice cloudy orange, that leaves about a finger of off white head at the top, with a bit of lacing around the glass as you drink.

S: Notes of grapefruit, a nice hop presence with hints of malts throughout and a bit of lemon notes as well.

T: Almost exactly like the nose, nice blend of grapefruit hops and malts.

M: Medium carbonation, medium bodied.

O: Sixpoint is becoming a brewery that I am starting to like more and more. This brew was simple but not bad for IPA.

A: Pale amber body. Nice clarity. Moderate off-white head. Spotty lacing.

S: Faint, and I do mean faint, grapefruit, pine and floral notes.

T: The grapefruit and floral notes are present -- although they are not pungent despite the rather bland and muted malt backbone.

M: You know some people homebrew IPAs that end up tasting like hop flavored carbonated water? Well, this beer has a bit of that going on.

O: An interesting idea, but ultimately the base beer is insipid that the hop addition just doesn't work here.

From notes taken at the Armsby Abbey. Poured into a standard pint glass.

A - Pours a hazy light golden yello with a fizzy light half a finger head that fades to leave a slight amount of side lacing.

S - Very faint on the nose. Faint centennial hops and grapefruit with a bit of a musty malt quality.

T - Taste is similar to the nose. Kinda grassy and light citrus. Rather earthy, but with a somewaht bland maltiness.

M - Mouthfeel is alright. Medium carbonation, good in the mouth.

O - Overall, not my favorite example of this type of hops. Really would like something more from this. Frankly, dissappointed.

on tap at khyber in philly

Pours a hazy light golden color with a layering of fluffy white head. Rings of sticky lacing and a well retained coating of film rest on top.

Bitter hops in the nose with a splash of citrus juice. Malty tones with bread and a light hint of caramel.

Bitter and dry up front with grapefruit and orange. Hint of peppery spice and pithy notes. Malty backbone is pretty noticeable but with lighter breadyness. Some caramel and a soft notion of butter which is a bit weird. Finishes dry.

Medium body, higher carb, dry and prickly on the tongue. Pretty drinkable but this is probably my least favorite in this series so far. I've had this a few times now but there's a definite notion of butteryness that throws me off.

Clear, sunset orange with a thin head and some lacing. There is very little visible carbonation and obviously no sediment. The nose is slightly bitter and relatively sweet. The taste is mildly hoppy and sweet as well...frankly, the mouthfeel is the most redeeming quality of this beer. It's balanced and drinkable which is important for an IPA. Not outstanding, but not terrible either.
